I have a lot to yap here so I think I'm gonna start with a TL;DR
Mechanics: I think it's pretty well made. Better than anything I could do so it's already mechanically amazing as a mod. Pretty detailed, has a lotta effort, fun.
If it's inspired by Superhot that's gotta be cool too!
Thematics: This is a thematic shitpost and nothing else.
Now that the TL;DR is out of the way, entertain my little yap session:
The mod is amazing as a mod of Ultrakill. I know the Ultrakill modding community is relatively small but they have done nothing but pump bangers after bangers nonstop. The concept of the mod itself is really cool and I think the vision of the Mod maker was very much achieved. They saw what they wanted, got what they wanted out of the mod, and sold it to the world. It's honestly impressive how well made the Mod is. It could use a few tweaks here and there but nothing major. Just visual overhaul changes and other minute things that don't take much of anything out of the experience.
I have to separate the Mod as a Mod and as a Theme because thematically, this mod is nothing short of an ULTRAKILL Copypasta shitpost that has excruciating detail. If this is how ULTRAKILL ends it would make absolutely no sense whatsoever. It misses the fact that V1 and the Robots aren't the protagonists of the story ULTRAKILL (ergo, Hakita and Company) presents. The story was never about *you* the player, nor was it ever about *you* V1. It wasn't about the robots rampaging through Hell. It also isn't about Hell itself or its puppeteering of V1. ULTRAKILL is the story of Gabriel. It was always the story of Gabriel. Think of it as Hakita is trying to tell a disaster of the movie not from the perspective of the protagonist, but from the perspective of the disaster. V1 is nothing and no one. It is just a Machine droning through hell as it's in its nature to siphon blood.
To think that V1 was ever the star of the show, or was something major, is fundamentally wrong. Any robot could have walked into Gabriel's resting court, done the same thing, and the story would go on the same. It is because V1 is just another machine in Hell. Hakita has explicitly stated multiple times that V1 is nothing other than one of the "fucktillion" machines that Gabriel is trying to deal with. Any ending that portrays V1 as the protagonist falls flat as it doesn't, and wouldn't, make sense in the slightest. It's like watching an intense action disaster movie from start to end, and just as the protagonist and the disaster are about to trade their final blows, it jarringly cuts to a scene with the disaster dancing and befriending the protagonist cast and leaving the planet to do the exact same droning thing over and over again.
The story of Ultrakill is never about cycles. It isn't about the indomitable human spirit, it isn't about the intelligence of robots, it isn't robots becoming human, it isn't any of that. There is no cycle. If there was a cycle, God would have returned and restarted the whole shebang all over again. The story is about Gabriel's journey and realization, about change. The fact the mod omits and never actually shows Gabriel is truly a shame as Gabriel is literally one of the most complex characters in ULTRAKILL if you recognize him past the flanderization of his character as a bottom twink.
Nevertheless, I respect the Mod and the Mod maker for providing a unique experience to entertain ULTRAKILL fans while we wait. I would also like to see more of his work, as well as other modders. Do not let this analysis discourage you from making more! I'd love to see them myself too. With that said, I hope it's reasonable enough why I think the mod is a thematic shitpost.
