      Ikrani yeah, most of the time playing the villain, especially an over the top disney villain is the best role ever. look at Vincent Price as Ratagin in the Great Mouse Detective.

      Kevin Murphy
      Well, Vincent Price DID say that Ratigan was his all-time favorite role. Makes sense, seeing as his favorite live-action role was as Egghead on Batman.

    Sheesh this was a terrifying villain. And to think, he actually had the sympathy to let Cody go at the beginning until he noticed Marahute's feather. He kidnaps and nearly kills an innocent child. I swear this guy is on par with Frollo. Too bad nobody really talks about this guy. O well this is still one of my favorite Disney movies.

    • @Bull1908
      @Bull1908 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      He let him go so he doesnt start snooping around accusing and correctly guessing that hes a poacher and dangerous one. Once he saw the feather he saw his latest conquest. What i dont get is what he kept the animals he caught tied and chained. I assumed he would have sold them off long ago and got whatever money he would for them.

    • @jrax1713
      @jrax1713 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually I’m not really sure if he was ever planning on letting them go in the first place even before he saw the feather

    • @Kamina.D.Fierce
      @Kamina.D.Fierce 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He figured he could fool Cody (a very small child) so that the kid would leave and not be a problem. Given Cody is smart enough to not be fooled yet dumb enough to not read the situation. Had McLeach not seen the feather think about this... He was about to shoot Joanna... Right next to Cody... With a double barrel shotgun. One shot for Joanna and the other... He did use the crocs to fool the Rangers after all and WAS going to feed Cody to them.

      ***** agreed :) people think the movie is bad because this is a number 2, like the little mermaid 2... but no, it's a full movie :) Imagine if the lion king 2 came first, then the 1 come after, it's the same effect here... the rescuer down under is clearly greater :D it's also a rare disney without SONGS, when you go to disneyland you don't even see this movie... I really don't know why :( not even a reference :( :( :( The movie is maybe to hard for kids in 2014, the villain put a gun on a kid, then he jails the kid, use animal (they probably all die in jail at end...) the scene with the "doctors" also uses gun... But wait, I'm saying shit, captain hook kills a pirate and no one cares!!! xD WATCH THIS MOVIE PEOPLE!!!

    Mcleach adds a degree of slimy and sinister realism to the film due to his status as a poacher. His temper swings also add to his unpleasant character. Still, George C. Scott delivered a spectacular performance going full ham and cheese while clearly having a fun time.

    McLeach is similar to his predecessor, Madame Medusa. They both kidnap a little child to get an item they want to become rich. They both have vicious pets. Both have shotguns. Also they both end up being chased by crocodiles in the climax of their movie. McLeach is more evil than Madame Medusa because he wanted to kill the child he kidnapped and madame medusa did not.

    I feel like Mcleach is one of the more realistic villains of Disney media because there are real life poachers out there hunting and killing countless innocent animals. Having Mcleach own a pet also makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Hunters and poachers use hunting dogs to track down their prey.

      Gabriel Perrella Not really. He came from a family which had a fair military tradition. His ancestors fought in the Civil War. He fought in both world wars and had quite an old fashioned, romantic view on warfare. However, that meant he didn't believe in PTSD or combat fatigue, believing it to be cowardice on the soldier's part. At one point he even slapped a soldier who was suffering from PTSD across the face, nearly ruining his career. He also wanted to start another war with the Soviets using German POWs, believing them to be the true threat. He wasn't wrong, but he wasn't totally right either.

    Ok, people, stop giving poor Cody crap about what he should have done to avoid getting captured by McLeach. At least Cody was brave enough to even stand up to him! Most kids would have been scared and beg for mercy, but Cody put up a hell of a fight throughout the movie! Sure it wasn't much, but at least he had courage to try and do everything in his power to try and stop McLeach, even if it wasn't much, and that's an honorable intention of itself! And sure, he was scared, I don't know a kid who wouldn't be, but he didn't let that fear take over him, and he kept a level head to try and escape. Heck, he was more worried for Marahute's safety (apologies if I spelled it wrong) than for his own! I mean come on, how many kids do you know would jump off a cliff to try to rip open the net?

      You are right about Cody, I do wish the Disney crew were going to do a pre-sequel of THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER to tell us about Cody's earlier background and witness the death of his father. Cody may have the adventurous time of his life, but there is a lot of important things he has to remember. I bet Cody's father told him at less eight times never to climb up on high cliffs or canyons. I could see Cody having a few sad tears his eyes after he was reunited with his mom. And he would say, "Mum, mum I'm so sorry for leaving you, I promise I'll never go to the outback again for a few years, I love you mum." And it's a good thing to see how much his mother cares about him and she would never say, "THE DINGO ATE MY BABY!!!" but she would say, "I love you too Cody, just don't go out there again without my permission."

    One of the BEST Disney movies ever in my opinion. I saw this in 1991 (when it was first released to Australian cinemas). It is has always been a very underrated Disney movie but then, all three of my favourite animated Disney movies are underrated - “The Fox and the Hound”, “Oliver and Company” and “The Rescuers Down Under”. I saw all three of those movies at the cinema when I was a kid. “The Fox and the Hound” was rereleased to cinemas in 1988 (which was the year that I saw it). My two favourite Disney villains of all time are this guy (Percival McLeach) and Sykes from “Oliver and Company”.
    [I did not include “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” which has always been my favourite Disney movie - because it is only partly Disney / partly animated. “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was another movie that I saw at the cinema when it was first released in 1988. Judge Doom is right up there with McLeach and Sykes as one of my favourite villains of all time.]

  • @rstein926

    McLeach was actually both intelligent but also at times not so bright.
    McLeach cleverly threw Cody's rucksack into the river to fool both the Rangers and Cody's mother he was 'killed by the crocodiles'.
    However he outright admitted to Cody he killed Marahute's mate which was the worst thing he could had done. Had he just left Cody run off and no say anything Cody would obviously never have discovered he killed Marahute's mate and McLeach put himself in a catch 22 situation. Because Cody now knew the truth McLeach didn't just kidnap him to 'help' him find Marahute and her nest but to keep him from telling the Rangers what he did.
    And even though it is implied he doesn't hesitate to kill children especially as he was enjoying it in a sadstistic manner with his singing and teasing the crocodiles, he had no other choice but to kill him. With Cody dead his secret would stay with him.
