Years ago I saw Roy in concert. Surrounding him on stage, besides numerous guitars, mandolins, banjos, there was a coronet, clarinet, accordion, and button (Irish) squeeze box. He played them all
"He played them all"......very, very well. Fixed that for ya'll. No worries. One question, though??? No fiddle??? Hard to imagine Mr. Roy doin a show without a fiddle.
@@snafubar5491 There were a couple fiddles... and he was an extraordinary fiddler. I saw the show in the mid-70s, and remember it very well, but sometimes details elude me.
Normally I won't watch unless it's something that I've seen before. And I've always thought Roy Clark was just some famous country singer. Since I don't like country music I avoided him. I didn't know the man was a guitar virtuoso and could play a bluesy Boogie to rival Stevie Ray Vaughan. I thoroughly enjoyed that I'm going to watch more of his music.
A lot of country artists moved between genres. Waylon and Conway come to mind as they both started in rock and then moved over to becoming legends in country.
I love just about anything Roy Clark does. He is one of the most talented people I know. Another great song he does extremely well and made me sit up and take notice was "Under The Double Eagle". Enjoy!!!
I love it, thanks for sharing! I usually watch Roy Clark's hands and his face, but today I enjoyed watching your face. Great song, super talented musician, fun reactor! Excellent.
Roy Clark was famous as a country singer and musician, but he was from Virginia and grew up around the Washington DC area so he was familiar with other types of music.
If you haven't yet, i would urge you to check out other great guitarists of Roys era. Glen Campbell, Jim Stafford, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins etc... Way too many greats that don't get the recognition they deserve because at the time, Rock music/musicians were making a big impact and country was seen by some as "Your Parents Music".
A true gentleman aficionado- my Mom learned to play piano and Reed instruments by ear -she was inspired by Roy and Jerry Lee. ❤️ me some good Boogie Woogie!
Someone once asked Roy: "Does it ever bother you that you're not considered one of the best guitarists in history? " He answered: "A little, then I check my bank account and I'm fine." 😂😂😂😂
Is the film up side down, or is he playing the notes and cords with his right hand and picking with his left hand? I have never seen him play like that before. WOW!!!
You can add Tommy Emmanuel form Australia and the late Glen Campbell, Les Paul, George Benson, Oscar Frederic Moore, Larry Coryell and a host of others to that group you mentioned at the end. Oscar Frederic Moore was Nat King Cole's Guitar player in the trio
I love Roy's music and I consider him one of the best guitarists of all time. (I still have a Roy Clark "Best of" 8 track tape... with nothing to play it on!) But... if you're going to assemble a guitar virtuoso Dream Team, you absolutely have to include Prince. I once saw an interview with Eric Clapton where he was asked "What does it feel like to be the best guitarist in the world." His reply was "I don't know... ask Prince."
There are two clips on TH-cam with Roy and Glen Campbell playing the same guitar at the same time. One song was Wildwood Flower and I think the other is a boogie woogie tune.
I strongly concur with your dream team thoughts. That said, you you strongly need to check out Tommy Emmanuel, who is arguably the best acoustic guitarist in the world. He hails from Australia and can play many different styles. I would suggest starting with his rendition of Classical Gas. Mindboggling.
He could play any style. I don't believe he played anything other than stringed instruments - though it wouldn't surprise me if he could play piano (his mother played piano). I would add Jeff Healey to your all star guitar line up. Glen Campbell too! Only other one to consider is the late Eddie Van Halen. By the way imagine being 14 and going over to a friend's on a Saturday to have a cookout and mess around attempting to play guitar, only to have Roy Clark walk out. Food came first then a few hours of learning from the man. This was at the height of his popularity. A truly special memory.
A lot of country music musicians, cut their teeth on jazz as well as rock ‘n’ roll. If you want to hear some really nice jazz, can I suggest a couple of guys who are better known for their comedy routine: Homer and Jethro. They put out an album of purely instrumental, music, called “playing it straight” it showcases what amazing jazz musicians they really were when they weren’t cutting it up doing parody songs.
Check out "The Odd Couple" The Roy Clark Show (TV Episode 1975) Also check out Tommy Emmanuel from Australian he might be the Greatest Guitarist within the last 20 years

Lord I'd loved to have seen Roy play those wind instruments.
He was superb an artist!!
I grew up outside Branson MO and probably would have seen him more times now I see that’s not normal lol
That's Rockabilly Bruh!!!! Roy was one of the most amazing guitarists ever!!!! So glad you chose this song!!!
Roy Clark was a BEAST, He played more then just strings!!
Loved Roy Clark.
So sad so many people will never hear anything like Roy or even the Boogie Woogie.
Such fun music.

Roy was beyond top notch...he was the guitar player other brilliant guitar players wanted to learn from.
A lot of country artists moved between genres. Waylon and Conway come to mind as they both started in rock and then moved over to becoming legends in country.
He could play any genre and any song, as good if not better than any of your favourite guitarists, and he could do it on any instrument with strings
You might be surprised to learn that Charo (of coochi coochi fame) is also a fine guitarist.
Check out the video “Roy Clark can play anything” where he plays Melaguana in the acoustic and let me know what you think.
I love just about anything Roy Clark does. He is one of the most talented people I know. Another great song he does extremely well and made me sit up and take notice was "Under The Double Eagle". Enjoy!!!

One of a Kind ! So talented in so many styles
electric, acoustic or a banjo and Roy Clark will SLAY it!
Honestly I have ever heard this one, but I donlt ever think many have heard his best. He is ONE of the greatest!!!
Had my photo taken with Mr. Clark after his show in Branson. He was mindblowing in person.
There was a duet with Glenn Campbell where they played together, on the same guitar, incredible.
After watching for years, I think he had more difficulty playing seriously than humorously, he was by nature a fun man.
Makes me miss him even more.

You said Chet, so you MUST check out Chester and Lester; les Paul and CHet Atkins
Dayum! Never heard him boogie like that!
A true gentleman aficionado- my Mom learned to play piano and Reed instruments by ear -she was inspired by Roy and Jerry Lee. ❤️ me some good Boogie Woogie!
I never knew he could play right or left handed. God you gotta be really good to be able to do that
Roy could played both hands
The man can ply any genre
BEST GUITARIST EVER, ROY CLARK!!
He was definitely one of a kind… missed!
Someone once asked Roy: "Does it ever bother you that you're not considered one of the best guitarists in history? "
He answered: "A little, then I check my bank account and I'm fine." 😂😂😂😂
You, sir, are extremely well spoken. Happy New Year.
Have to agree, that would be a dream team..❤️🎶
Is the film up side down, or is he playing the notes and cords with his right hand and picking with his left hand? I have never seen him play like that before. WOW!!!
Boogie woogie music! Old style rock
Roy’s the best!
Roy Clark is a maestro musicista
I so miss him.
I would LOVE to hear your "dream team" that would be incredible.
Check out Roy Clark and Glen Campbell doing Ghost Riders in the Sky

Have you ever done one on Tommy Emanuel? Just subscribed and I have been a Roy Clark fan for many years. Enjoying your reaction to his genius.
If you have not yet see Roy & Glenn Campbell ghost riders in the sky

This song was written by Author Smith in the 1940's. He also wrote Dulling Banjos.
I grew up watching Hee Haw back in 70's. He and Buck Owens played host but each did their thing. A lot of classic country got started on HeeHaw.
There are two clips on TH-cam with Roy and Glen Campbell playing the same guitar at the same time. One song was Wildwood Flower and I think the other is a boogie woogie tune.
I saw him play a paper bag on Hee Haw once in the late 70s, but I haven't found the clip of it on YT yet.
Would have been nice to put him with pinetop Perkins
Because this sound was often found on piano
For something light hearted and Roy Clark singing, try Thank God and Greyhound.
He plays this right handed too.
Man, the players' union must have hated it when Roy came to town. -- "No, boys, I don't really need any help!"
I strongly concur with your dream team thoughts. That said, you you strongly need to check out Tommy Emmanuel, who is arguably the best acoustic guitarist in the world. I thought of Tommy Emmanuel as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Tommy had listed Roy Clark as one of his musical influences.
☮️💙💙💙wow!
Roy Clark and Glen Campbell if you want a dream team. Oh, you can hear the play Ghost Riders together.
Why don't you try Glenn Campbell and 'Roy Clarke playing Ghost Riders in The Sky?

saw him play sax before
Check out "The Odd Couple" The Roy Clark Show (TV Episode 1975)
Also check out Tommy Emmanuel from Australian he might be the Greatest Guitarist within the last 20 years
Tommy Emmanuel. unbelievable Austrailian guitarist.
He just played music with no concern what ours called it.
Roy could play the guitar including 10 string, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, harmonica and I think a little drums.
Check out Mont Montgomery.
💙
A guitarist should be heard and seen. One out of two is not good enough. They deserve better.
You do see he is playing with the guitar with opposite hands?
Is he playing left handed
Is he playing left handed? He's a right hander
You need to hear Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed playing Jerry's Breakdown.
I met Chet Atkins after a concert. Such an amazing talent.
Check out Jerry Reed
Also Ricky Hatton
I've heard different renditions of this tune, but not one with more jazz stylings.
Try Tommy Emmanuel! He is also amazing!
Left handed?
If you will pay attention he can play right or left handed too! Watch enough videos and you will see
Both Hendrix and van Halen saw him as greatest guitarist
Am I going crazy but isn't he playing left-handed here?
Tommy Emanuel is a must to that dream team
Not even in top 1000
Was roy ambidextrous? I SEE HIM PLAYING LEFT HANDED HOWEVER IM SURE HE PLAYS THE BANJO RIGHT HANDED
This gentleman mirrors the video in his reactions to try to keep them from being blocked.
It's a mirror effect.
Stevie Ray who
Saw an interview with Mr Clark. He never learned to read music.
BLOCKED A NEEDY DUMPER
1st
................ You Missed 2 MAJOR influences.... LES PAUL! and James Burton !!
You need to lighten up
On your videos you can't see the artist just you.not respectful to the artist. All you can do is talk.
Check out Tommy Emmanuel's version. Unbelievable.
