If you didn't know, when Universal was building the Back to the Future ride, a roller coaster was an idea in the early stages, but at the time an indoor coaster of such a huge scale was not possible. Maybe they will circle back to that idea with the drifting trains from intamin
There’s a common saying in the theme park world: “No good idea ever dies”. I know of this BTTF coaster idea as well and I’m hoping one day this quote will prove to be true with this idea.
I'm glad you mentioned how weak studios was compared to islands. It's been criminally neglected and will continue to be since all attention is given to epic. They need to replace rockit with another high thrill coaster.
Honestly, Universal Studios Florida could use both an outdoor family coaster and a modern thrill roller coaster. That theme park needs a major overhaul, getting rid of many of those motion simulator rides. “Minions” for the family coaster, and “Back to the Future” for the thrill coaster (along with an abridged version of the Broadway musical as sit-down entertainment). While the only way to justify keeping a “Fast & Furious” attraction, is if it were a race track ride. Similar to what Disney does with the “Cars” franchise.
PS: technically “Minions” could be viable theme for a thrill roller coaster. It could easily be USF’s version of the Incredicoaster. Especially, if you want an extreme spinning coaster.
If number five were to happen I would imagine it to look like Incredicoaster except with a lift hill and it would dive through the weird creature's mouths instead of the red tubes at California Adventure. Its definitely a fun idea that should be added somewhere else in the Universal company.
I'd take an indoor dark-ride flume for a horror IP. Maybe It or Beetlejuice. I'd also love the Ghostbusters or Beetlejuice horror maze to be a year-round fixture in that space.
I would do a couple of things actually. First, the area where the turn around is back to the station that's closest to City Walk, I would transform into Super Silly Fun Land. It doesn't have to be a huge area to fit the theme and sinces it's off of minion way, it would make sense. As for a rollercoaster, move the loading station basically behind the firehouse. If you look at a map, you'll see the buildings in the back as well as a fairly decent sized parking lot to the south west. Have the train go towards the area that's between the sound stages and the park where Rip Ride currently goes. Make that a launch that gets you to 88 MPH if it's Back to the Future based, or just fast for Fast and the Furious. Have that then end into an immelman to turn the train back, the track following the same path but with actual elements then into the parking lot to do whatever it'll do. Once done with those elements, the coaster can easily go towards where the spiral is currently on RRR, do something then go back into the station. Would make for a more exciting coaster and you would really feel the speed during the speed section since you'll be between buildings so you'll have a very good scale of how fast you're going. This also gives the park another kids area as well that would be very helpful for those that have little ones and probably help with some of the crowds at the entrance. Despicable Me always has a huge wait cause it's the first ride in the park, but having a Super Silly Fun Land that you could see from City Walk would get kids more excited for that. Put a small coaster and/or flat rides and you would have a winner.
Honestly watched this thinking I was going to hate it because I love Rip Rocket, it was the first coaster I ever took my son on. However, you have a really cool vibe, nice energy and just seem like a cool coaster enthusiast. Nice work! Would love to see that Fast and Furious coaster in Orlando, and then maybe they could take the current trash Fast And Furious ride and turn it in to a new Twisters attraction!
Plopsaland's 'Ride to Happiness' ! One of those just generically themed to classic movies or the Universal movie catalogue? I think it's my new best case scenario.
Rockit I rode recently. It wasn't that bad. Not headache inducing. Fast ops. Didn't see it go down once. I've been kn b&m s that are rougher and more intense. Like the hulk and Kumba and raptor. Rip ride rockit is a solid ride I think. But we definitely need a new one
I think a Back to the Future roller coaster would work fantastic! Imagine starting indoors and slowly speeding up to "88mph" and having fire all around you. Similar to how the Raptors are at the start of Velocicoaster. Before shooting outdoors. Then you could maybe have different break runs which happens indoors where you go through the different time periods in the films. And obviously they dont need to worry about which car they would make the coaster vehicles look like. Would be great!
While I do agree Time Traveller is a very different ride from any kind of other spinner, from a “ride portfolio” perspective, I don’t think Universal would use it because I don’t see it being different enough. I think a B&M dive coaster is probably the most likely, but I would hope they do something awesome with the themeing. There’s just no way that F&F fits in the layout of Orlando though.
I would want them build the exact roller coaster from the first Despicable Me and in the movie, it looks slightly over 200 feet so it can be their hyper coaster and the tallest in Florida and the only thing that will change are some of the transitions on that coaster as they are very unrealistic and wouldn't be safe in real life but Universal is probably not building a hyper coaster, especially not one themed to a movie that's majority audience is kids
What I want, but might be to similar to Velocicoaster, cause it’s an Intamin blitz, but what I would want would be, and Intamin blitz with a similar intensity level to something like Cheetah Hunt, and have it be Back to the Future themed with an 88 Mph Launch
Regardless of what they replace it with.... they really need to replace RRR. Thinking about what it is they are getting rid of, they will need something that can be a family pleaser. Intamin has the perfect fit here. Think Cheetah Hunt style... Set the scene... above the fire house (I mean, already sits a perfect hole for it)... out comes ecto 1!!! Maybe with Slimer holding the back of the train! :) Sit down and launched! BUT... the style coaster for F&F would world also, too! Only time will tell! Hope they don't wait too long to announce the closure. Once Epic opens, I feel it won't be much longer. They will probably want to do it for a 2026 season opening.
Thoooo...looking at the space, there may be room for a hyper. :) Not sure if 200ft is too much for them though. I do think they won't just go with any make on this one - b/c let's face it... they went with the wrong version of the ride and all the issues was not worth it.
A Mack Xtreme spinner doesn’t have very high capacity, for the sake of capacity you’d have to get 6 car trains or smth and that would make the trains really long. I’d say a Mack Stryker is the best option (why wasn’t that mentioned in the vertical lift section?)
I think a Mack Hyper would be a great choice if they wanted something that would have a similar impact on the skyline without doing a ride that looks super similar like a Gerstlauer.
It’s also just funny to think about how the goal with Rockit was to make the most exciting non-inverting rollercoaster ever, but they did this right before the dawn of a major revolution in coaster design. RMC’s influence cannot be understated, they’ve done such a great job pioneering elements with both great forces and smooth transitions.
I probably think It might be a Scott Pilgrim related Ride, because if you thinks about it, There was a Reference in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, that had a Universal Theme Park Reference.
A b&m would be nice. That brand always has great throughput and great reliability. A version of the Hollywood dream like the one in japan would be nice. A version of the fast and the furious roller coaster like the one going into universal studios hollywood would be great too.
i say they just tear it down and make a rip ride rockit 2.0. keep alot of the same elements like the verticle lift hill, inverted drop, music in the seats, color scheme, but with that more smooth sleek feel of a new coaster. rrr blends well with the hollywood themeing and works really good with the stage being right under it as kinda the music section of the park. maybe even have the music selection updated to where u could choose the song from your phone and itll link to ur seat.
I doubt they'll get rid of rockit anytime soon. But I agree Universal is so bad compared to Islands. The Mummy and Diagon Alley are the only things worth going for, unless you have kids. But I cannot believe their newest attraction (villiancon) is literally just a moving walkway. I was so disappointed. My feet were hurting from standing in lines all day and then I find out the ride isn't a ride at all, the queue line just transitions into a moving walkway after they hand you a toy gun.... With how bad the park is I thought they'd step up their game but instead their newest is the worst in a park filled with bad attractions. That made me kinda lose all hope for that park... but I guess it's fine since Epic Universe is coming.
Honestly I was gonna say a B&M hyper but mako is only a few minutes down the rode so maybe a Mack Stryker cause of the high capacity with the moving load station
Mack said they aren't at the limit with RTH. So a mack Xtreme would be more extreme than RTH and much more extreme than Time Traveler. And this Intamin thing has controlled spinning I think.
I hope this ride goes away, this ride was the worst roller coaster I have ever ridden. Horrible restraints, horrible tracking, just overall a crappy ride
Listen, I love the Minions for what they are, but having them as the entrance to the park sucks. That area (including Rip Ride Rocket) should be something of a hub to the park. Epic has Celestial park, Islands has port of entry, Universal needs its own, Rip Ride replacement should non IP related. Replacing Minions (maybe even moving Minions) should be the goal. Not saying this is viable, but what should happen in my opinion.
The most likely option is that they replace it with a similar ride by a better manufacturer. At this point the vertical lift hill is so incredibly iconic, it’s essentially the image of the park. It’s the primary focus in all of the marketing material and it’s what people think of when they think about the park. The fast and furious spinning coaster is also likely
I think there going to build a fast and furious coaster because there building in Hollywood and the get rid of ride fast and furious ride and build some cool for harry potter movies that was make them money
I prefer the original Universal park to IOA,IOA just feels too cramped and two empty theaters along with Poseidon is not good.Universal is also the park that hosts the events,Mardi Gras and it's concerts,I love riding the Mardi Gras floats,Christmas and Halloween Horror Nights,IOA has nothing to do with any of these.I do highly prefer the coasters at IOA,I'm not silly but coasters are just one thing but the whole feel of the park IOA just isn't cutting it,too cramped and almost feels like a Six Flags in areas,USF does need ti make several changes to improve the park.Replace Fast and Furious, new shoes at the Fear Factor theater and a new animal show, replace the rough Rip Ride Rockit and that new minions shooting ride that's extra lame.
Fast and Furious coaster looks incredibly dumb. If Universal is trying to recreate the films, why add inversions?! I’ve never seen a Dodge Challenger flip upside down, while racing a Ford Mustang. 😂
Subbed.I like your ideas, but I think a Minion thrill coaster would broaden the brand appeal. I just started a new channel with a proposal to upgrade all of USF to Epic levels, including a non-family Minion Madness coaster. Check it out and see what you think, I'd like to hear the thoughts of a coaster enthusiast.
The Incredicoaster has an inversion, and is not a family coaster, despite “The Incredibles” being a family-friendly franchise. The minions could work just as well, and having a yellow track would look great.
I mean it was a pretty revolutionary game changing of the ride back in like 2009-2010-2011-2012-2013 etc etc but yeah it’s nowhere near the coasters that Islands of Adventure had like in 1999 during it’s opening year and Hagrid’s and Velocicoaster

A ghostbusters coaster that launches out of the firehouse and the ride vehicle can look like the ecto 1
And it could be a drifter coaster as well! And it could be explained really well in the queue!
Like the wolf man coaster but more upside down and loops cause those are more fun and thrilling
I'm glad you mentioned how weak studios was compared to islands. It's been criminally neglected and will continue to be since all attention is given to epic. They need to replace rockit with another high thrill coaster.
They're planning on updating and expanding on studios as soon as epic is opened. They've got some pretty nice plans in the works
This ride hurt me so badly that I can’t imagine people enjoying it. Time to replace it with a modern themed ride.
I think Mack Striker coaster would be good, it has huge capacity
I could also see this coming. After seeing Voltron at Europa Park, Universal could definitely work with a ride system like that.
Honestly, Universal Studios Florida could use both an outdoor family coaster and a modern thrill roller coaster. a family launch coaster that stays low seems like the route they will go, especial all of the issues they have had with the wind in that alley
They should have Gerstlauer build them something like Kärnan with a backwards free fall vertical lift.
I love rip ride rockit:( I think it’s really smooth and fun
