I love how in Look at me now they are basically praising themselves, saying they are the best, and in the song they say that everyone can be great..... The cycle.......
If I wanted to listen to K-pop I'd listen to K-pop, I don't like the genre but at least it's less watered down. This is trying to be "light" kpop and fails at that and at being a good song. They think by having this aggressive high-bass electronic beat and Lanzhu yelling in Chinese with the other girls sayin "yeah yeah yeah" in the background that it makes a good song, or that Mia switching between English and Japanese is going to keep my attention. It doesn't, and having an over-aggressive beginning doesn't change the fact that the chorus is one of the weakest I've ever seen in Love Live. Even some of my least favorite love live songs like Cutie Panther have a better chorus and don't have to change up the chorus lyrics halfway through the song when they realize how annoyingly repetitive it is. One of my favorite Love Live songs came out just this year, Nando datte YAKUSOKU. That song also has an over-aggressive beginning with a horn section but the reason that one works is because everything is acoustic including the horns and it's not some dubstep sounding electronic beat. There's a great guitar solo, the beat after the beginning manages to keep the same energy that the beginning part had, and in general it sounds very inspired by the band Chicago, which was a very talented and experimental group that was known for combining horns into rock music. Plus the chorus is much stronger, and the music stops for a solo of Ruby and You which is nice. This isn't the "worst" LL song ever but Kpop and western pop influenced songs are becoming more and more common in Love Live, and almost every single time they flop for the same reasons.
I honestly disagree as music is subjective, but this is interesting to read as someone who doesn't really think much about this kind of stuff. I'm not really into Lily White songs for example, despite the fact the Umi, Nozomi, and Rin are in my top 5 original U's members. Maybe I just like the heavy electronic music as it was much more common and big when I was growing into my musical taste, but I've always found the more high energy ADHD brain juice to be more interesting to me. BiBi is a middle ground for me, as I like some of their stuff and don't mind the others, but I don't actively not like them. Guilty Kiss on the other hand is my all time favorite. If you don't mind me asking, how do you view the original A-Rise? I thought the their more dubstep techno vibe was a really good counter on the traditionally J-pop, and kinda obviously, idol style music of u's. I admittedly don't know much about music from a technical sense, as when it comes to this kind of stuff I'm much more knowledgeable on the writing side of things from a story perceptive.
I felt the same when "Over Quartzer" came out, I didn't think Kpop was good enough to cover anything from a 50ish (at the time) year old series. Ended up liking it tho

Buena crítica pero al ser subjetiva la música, obviamente termina primando el gusto personal ;)
