Geoff: As Moore points out, the hateful past doesn't have to be the hateful future. Unfortunately, some Americans want a return in the future to the hateful past. One way to achieve that is by hiding the hateful past. They see, for example, nothing wrong in leaving Chinese workers out of the photo of driving the golden spike at the end of the construction of the transcontinental railway, though Chinese workers did a huge part of the work of building it. That's one example (along with the Tulsa massacre) that I learned nothing about in the history classes at the prestigious prep school I was able to attend on a scholarship. I doubt the teachers knew about those matters, or else they could have supplemented the textbooks. Ron DeSantis, Donald Trump and their supporters want to keep children in the dark, just like everyone back in the 60's was kept in the dark about those matters in the 1960's. They think that is a good thing. I like the fact that Moore gives no credence or even mention to the specifics of the racial beliefs in the nation that don't conform to "all men are created equal". However, surely he knows that there is a surprisingly large segment of the population that starts with the premise, "Of course, there's a wealth gap. Average people of color are by nature lazy and wealth depends on how much money you can generate through your work." They will then proceed to give you anecdotal evidence of a lazy Black man whom they've come in contact with and extrapolate from that experience that all Black men are the same, something they would never do if they encountered a lazy White man, like, for example, Donald Trump.
Laughable. Some facts: the first slave owner in America was a black man, the last was a 'native' tribe; black people enslaved other black people in Africa long before the first white man arrived (and still do so today); the vast majority of slaves went to Central and South America, not North America

Thank you for this interview!!! Governor Moore exemplifies the quality of government officials that we need! His educational and professional background will allow him to bring many good things to the table!! Thoughts that came up during the interview…. History IS harsh and we as a people have the mental capacity and the emotional fortitude to learn from it. Children NEED to learn this too. Sometimes the truth “feels bad” and that’s okay. “Feeling bad” gives people an opportunity to pull up their emotional boot straps, get going and growing through it. “Feeling bad” builds an empathetic society, thus moving us towards change for the good of the United States as a whole. Unity and equality should be our goal AND it shouldn’t be this hard to bring it to fruition!! African-Americans built this country, literally built and bled in the soil of his country!! Canceling out African-American history, African-American experiences and studies that would help us as a nation move away from subtle and overt racism thus healing the past it’s just another way to keep us chained to racism. This will NOT make America great again. The elephant in the room IS systemic racism. The elephant is becoming more and more visible. The sooner people admit that it was a practice of the past that has done and continues to do damage, the sooner we can move into a brighter future united as Americans. Denying, canceling and removing information does not make it go away, it actually make people seek it out more. The GOP are masters of cancel culture!! The truth hurts and if they don’t like the truth, if it doesn’t fit their narrative, or agenda they literally cancel it. The GOP screams “indoctrination”, why??Because we no longer buy their indoctrination of division and many are seeing how that’s NOT working for US. We can only build a better nation by acknowledging the mistakes of the past, uniting in order to fix the problems so we can move positively into a United future. ✌🏽🇺🇸 Americans4unity! I remember this from elementary school, “One Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”

It's like saying that same man was sentenced to 5 years or more to prison Several proud boys guilty of sedition conspiracy sentenced to 20 yrs in prison , oath keepers also got 19 yrs or more This is what Tim is trying to to sell Americans that what we all saw on tv live didn't happen, really tim. Tim systemic racism bigotry is alive and kicking against all black and brown skinned people here in America. Tim is not honest. All of those Texas-based textbook publishers back in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's controlled what events and topics were covered in the classroom history books (elementray through high school). Texas's traditions were well-known for being Southern and racist. Hence, the Tulsa Massacre was not covered. As a history teacher in the 1980's, sitting on a committee to choose new textbooks, I remember discussions with representatives from these publishing companies who justified "things that were not included in the textbooks" by telling us, "Historical events are so vast that the textbooks simply cannot cover everything." We teachers back then were not happy with our choices, but were forced to choose from among those publishers by our school boards. Don't blame the teachers. Literally, we were told we had to teach what was in the textbooks. Stay on curriculum. Frustrating!
It’s not realistic to have leaders like him. Why? Blame this current era. Ppl like are unimaginably stupid for fake people. Plus they want to control everyone.

Re TULSA: VERY FEW people knew about Tulsa! When the smoke cleared, the survivors were afraid to talk about it. I grew up there (b.1955). My parents told us about it when we were young but almost no one talked about it. In 1921, my mother's best friend's father drove to Greenwood and saved their housekeeper when he heard what was about to happen. But the whole disaster was basically buried. I'd like to see reparations made in the form of the restoration of Greenwood through the demolition of I-244 that divided what was left (through federal money for restoring black neighborhoods for this very reason) and through grants and very low interest loans for small business developments. For a start.

Both things can be happening at once. You can point out the systemic problems and history while acknowledging the strides made and progress.
A whooooooole lot of dishonest actors rely on that false dichotomy.
we love this false dichotomy... the other side... Why should there be strides in first place, why should people hold terrible beliefs? and why are people still supporting these beliefs? book banning? terrible anti-diversity laws all around white states? What strides? really? The denial is what breeds false dichotomy
@@furiousapplesack which false dichotomy?
@@furiousapplesackso you are not allowed to acknowledge progress? Dang…that explains a lot. Why the Democratic Party will always live in the past and focus on the negative.
@@kellherman I will not deny we made great progress. But, recent times/trends have undone most of that progress. We're seeing it all the time. This once great nation, that prided itself on freedoms and equality, has been rotting away since the 1980s.
The equality that the US prided itself on started to rot away in the 1980s. The freedoms that the US prided itself on have been disappearing since Trump green lighted fascism/bigotry.
Do not mistaken me, that fascism & bigotry was always there; but people kept them in their 'closets' because it was socially unacceptable. Trump made it so that the bigotry was socially acceptable; thus they came out of their 'closets'.
Thank you, Governor Moore.
😢😢
I’d vote for Moore in a heartbeat for President that guy has it
Don’t know about that heartbeat thing. People will fool you. You may want to be careful jumping on the 1st train that shines a bit. Words are ok, I kinda like action.
@@pa1060 That's right!
It'd be time to move to another country then. Don't need a yes man in office.
Americans4unity!
I remember this from elementary school,
“One Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
E pluribus unum... from the many, one that used to be youre slogan before the jebus cult changed to include their psycho killer god.
Here is why this does not make sense why would Republicans need to change history??? Like really why would they need to change history.
Win or lose a war the only ones who would want to change history are the ones who were doing evil and were in the wrong. Now who are the ones trying to lie about history, we will let you all figure that out.
Amen Amen Amen!!! Preach Sala', educate us, teach us, they can not hide the past when it exists in the present.
Man his comment about Frederick Douglass and his family allowing him to use his Bible brought a tear to my eye. We need more people like Mr Moore. I am proud I voted for him. Been following him since his book the two Wes Moore's and to see how far he came is amazing.
Tim Scott is what will happen to the kids if we start banning books.
What do you mean? To become someone who rises above poverty and to become successful in whatever endeavor you choose. This is what he has done. What part of this offends you?
People will get educated and think for themselves?
Nope, narrow skill set and ignorance about most fields/subjects beyond.
That's precisely what those who ban books intend
Poor Tim he is a good example of what happens when you denie truth, and prefer tramps alternative universe.
Tim is playing a game that he will not win, because he denies truth about America history,
Tim is just not an honest broker of facts and truth, he's lying when he says systematic racism does not exist in America is like saying January 6, didn't happen, tramps followers didn't break into the Capital building, vandolized, trashed, peed on the walls, spray police officers with bear spray, hit officers with flag poles, chanted hang Mike Pence, a man sat at speaker of the house desk saying he would harm her if she had been there.
It's like saying that same man was sentenced to 5 years or more to prison
Several proud boys guilty of sedition conspiracy sentenced to 20 yrs in prison , oath keepers also got 19 yrs or more
This is what Tim is trying to to sell Americans that what we all saw on tv live didn't happen, really tim.
Tim systemic racism bigotry is alive and kicking against all black and brown skinned people here in America.
Tim is not honest.
No one can denie January 6 happened just like no one can say slavery didn't exist nor systemic racism doesn't exist in America, yes in America systemic racism and bigotry lives in America.
This man should be President of the United States of America. Moore 2028
Agreed. No lies detected.
One day he will be.
@@darrellhenry9152 I agree!
Sure should be! He is who and what we need. So proud to be under his leadership in the state of Maryland.
Could just as good as biden for the country
He sounds very presidential...would not be at all surprised if he runs for President someday!!
Tim Scott dodged that question so hard I'm surprised he didn't teleport backstage.
😂😂😂
😂
He is what the GOP likes, Tim scott, someone to talk their talking points and act like racism doesn't exist. Wes moore explained it perfectly
Democrats are very sick People
@@evenebrown7353 if you want to talk about systemic racism, what about affirmative action? is it not system racism against Asians? is system racism against Asians okay?
"We don't have a 8-1 wealth gap because one group of people worked 8 times harder."

He said that @ 6:08.

Bars…
I like Wes Moore. Good job, Maryland.
Thank you, from Maryland!
*GREAT JOB!*
Thank you from this proud Marylander!
Yes, he is doing us Marylanders proud.
Governor Wes Moore is really sharp. I bet you after his Governorship he will run for Senate or possibly President. You heard it here first!
I said that the day after he was elected.
Let's hope so. I would hate to see him leave his governorship, but the Senate is in deep deep need of Men, Women, and others with morals and integrity along with caring about others that are less fortunate.
Hope not.
Governor Wes Moore we need many more like you...i applaude you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💙💙💙💙
One of the good ones
We need more of this!
We need more leaders like Governor Moore in this country. Leaders that are driven by facts and reality.
Plus not power stricken and obsessed
It’s not realistic to have leaders like him. Why? Blame this current era. Ppl like are unimaginably stupid for fake people. Plus they want to control everyone.
Politics and America is complete trash. History is repeating.
This Gov is so Smart.. Tim Scott is a joke...
Tim Scott should go spend a day with Hershel Walker. That would be an interesting conversation.
Tim Scott answer the question please
Wes Moore is awesome 👏🏾
Democratic plantation is very strong.
One of the good ones
He who controls the past, controls the future. He who controls today's books, controls the past.
You Said that!!
Sounds like you have to read 😮
Impressive. He's someone to watch.
What an articulate man... his words convey a lot of substance.
EXCELLENT!!!
I’m glad to see my governor represent my state so well. 👊🏽✊🏽
wow I just love this guy~!!!! I wish more leaders were like him!
He is absolutely brilliant.
Keeping it real all the way……..❤
When I think of Wes Moore, Barack Obama comes to mind...when I think of Timmy, Uncle Thomas comes to mind and when I think of Edward Brooke, Thurgood Marshall comes to mind...I'm just not a fan of lawn jockeys and guess who they are? I'll wait...
You’re kind of judgmental and on the verge of being racist… how is this a productive comment at all because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion you want to label them Uncle Tom… is that gonna make this country any better?
Wait no longer, Jethro! You probably didn't know who half of those people were until your MAGGOTT
buddies fed you a lot of
BS about them -or told you they were black.
I don't! Hopefully not another Obama.
Oops…
U don't like free thinking black men
Goosebumps
Thank You Mr Moore For Speaking
The words I can’t articulate
I think we will be seeing much more from you in the future
You got my vote for sure 😎
Thank you Governor, you are sooo intelligent! Sunny, “…oh it doesn’t exist, in your mind “ Thanks Sunny for stating the truth!
In general, Sunny is one angry person. Funny how all these folks yellin' about not enough opportunity and racism are makin' big bank on TV shows. They never even seen any REAL racism! Try growin' up in the late 50s! Segregation and Jim Crow laws. "Whites only" water fountains, etc. Riding in the back of the bus (when they let you on, IF they let you on)! These "new folks" don't know s**t! I lived through it! Leave TYT, CNN, NSNBC and The View alone and read some REAL books if y'all so interested in "history" instead of "his story"!
Tim Scott asked about systemic racism can only obfuscate, because he knows the answer but cannot say it.
1:48: I LOVE what he says about knowing where he comes from and moving with that strength. History impacts us today.
I hope your country continues to produce people like him who are shining examples of intelligent and well meaning politicians.

Keep banning them!!… the more they’re banned, the more attention being brought to them. I’m sure they didn’t see that one coming. I hope one day to be on the ‘banned list’.

This man is young but he can win any office he runs for. Sharp and likeable!
Tim Scott says this bs as his party literally tries to cut the parts they don't like out of our history.
Thank goodness for my governor. So glad he got my vote👏👏👏👏
My wife was a history major, and she said almost the exact same thing about Tulsa after it finally hit the national consciousness in 2021.
And they consciously will not discuss the solutions for these heinous crimes against us as a nation within this nation.
Did she say that the Democrats burned down Tulsa?
A Traveler once asked, " what happened to the great people of Sumer?" The Shaman replied, "they lost their culture, and they died!"
Governor Wes Moore, thank you!
Gov. Moore’s eloquence, knowledge and passion help me to believe that our political system is not broken. Well done sir!

I just heard about Tulsa & Rosewood a few years ago! I appreciate you for keeping it real Governor Moore!
I don’t follow politics anymore for personal reasons. But this interview popped up in my suggestions and I placed it in my watch later a few days ago. And I’m impressed by TH-cam for this but even more impressed Gov Moore. One of my favorite quotes is “A people who don’t study their history, it’s doomed to repeat itself.”
Wes Moore in 2028? (if we make it that far...)
GOOD for you Governor Wes Moore!!! You make me SO proud to be a MD resident. You also make me ecstatically proud to be a Black person residing there!!! God Bless you Always for your Leadership, and for getting it RIGHT!
I would've rather had Governor Moore debate Tim Scott than Sunny.
Tim is on racist white people side don't want.
Him
Governor Wes Moore thank you. Thank you! I do believe ignorance is a detriment to our well being. Tim Scott is a Work in Progress and living in a state of DENIAL. Yes our history is important. I grew up in the Jim Crow era in a town called Bamberg, state of South Carolina. Continue to stand strong and do what you will continue to do best. Respectfully
A lot of people didn't know about Tulsa, me included.
They didn't teach about the Rosewood Massacre in my Florida history class, either.
Learned only in the last couple years
learning about did not change anything, your history book likely will not admit you are/were an invalid impeacher
there is approximately 47 other DOCUMENTED cases of "Tulsa" in other cities. Rosewood was one of the worst. Black Community had wealthy neighborhoods and they were burned, destroyed and torched. Remember that thee next time somebody says anything about a CITY "Burning or being Destroyed". Tulsa is One of MANY
I had the pleasure of meeting Wes Moore several years ago. He signed my copy of "The Other Wes Moore". I so admire him and am hopeful that he is the face of America's future!
Great interview!
Tim Scott is a lost soul of reality. Drank to much Coolaid.
"We don't have an 8 to 1 ratio wealth gap because one group worked 8 times harder." Excellent point. But Tim Scott would beg to differ.
What group was that?
The one of stupid in-breeding Republicans?
The Christian Bible indicates that the poor will always be with you. There are more poor Caucasians in USA than poor people of color. Do your research.
It isn't systematic racism that causing. The schools in Baltimore are horrendous.
