I didn't know they needed to have their beaks trimmed...one of my girls has a long beak so maybe I will try to trim hers...she will definitely be hog tied in a towel!
Some will wear their beaks down on their own while pecking around but Tina doesn't so I clip it. It's important such that it's not interfering with eating, or preening, or bothering them in any way so if she can do all that and the upper/lower beak close properly and comfortably, I don't think it needs to be short for the sake of being short. The towel method has saved me so many times!! Let me know how it goes.

awe, why don't you get her a friend since the one passed? Sorry about that by the way. I think I'm about to do that for my house hen, I already have one in the yard I would like to protect better (my only showgirl)
It's a huge commitment, responsibility, and adjustment period that I'm not ready for.
I have 6 house hens now because of stupid chicken math and all...kinda wish I had just one or 2 sometimes because I feel bad when 4 of them want my attention at the exact same time and they're bigger so only 2 fit at a time the other sit on the back of the couch or at my feet waiting and whining...one lady at a time is perfect.
