Excellent...I had yet to see anyone actually do an idea I wanted to try. Splitting the bar with an angle grinder to make a basket...Thank You for proof of concept.
I like the basket handle look - but dang, that has to be a super heavy steak turner! Ever make one with a major taper/thinned down? I will have to try that before BBQ season.
Pretty interesting way of doing it. I agree with you in the comment below that Smiths are innovators. I'm not sure if plunging the grinder for the basket is easier than a forge weld for the basket... Saying that cause that cut looks very hard, impressed you pulled it off. Again I like your mix in your way of doing this and most importantly it gave me some ideas. Good work and keep it up.
Thank you for the comment, I've experimented with forge welding, and mig with good results, with the grinder slow and steady seems to be the winner atleast for myself.
Yes, i or plunge the grinder all the way through in a cross section. For your other question i mix traditional blacksmithing with modern tools, i could have cut with a chisel but for time constraints in my shop i opt for a faster approach with a cut off wheel. Smith's have always been innovators in ironworking, i Like to think those smiths a hundred years ago would have loved the grinders we have now lol. Thank you for the comments/ questions.
