They all look amazing, but Denali has been near the top of my bucket list for a bit now. I learned of the option to take the train there from your video, so thanks for that!
Once again an amazing video.. So glad to see you still traveling and enjoying life.. Those bears were absolutely amazing,, Bears squirrels and turtles are among my favorites in the wild. Thank you for sharing your experience, and sparking my travel bug yet again... I have hiked and camped my entire life. Finding your videos about a year ago have inspired me to travel to hike and camp and explore as much as possible. In the past year I have made two trips to Colorado. Mt. Elbert. and The Indian Peak wilderness, . Planning my next soon.. Thank you again for sharing and inspiring me to travel and explore outside my normal area..
Alice, I enjoyed this video so much. We are cruising there in June of '23...I rarely comment on other videos I've watched, but yours was phenomenal! Thank you!
Wow Alice what a beautiful and scenic trip awesome breathtaking scenery and congratulations on finally seeing some bears ,they were awesome, again nice video Alice
@@AliceFordAdventures just watched the Redoubt vlog, and the Juneau one is my fav, but all are excellent. I feel like I must visit Alaska now. I’ve been kind of intimidated by this great state, but you’ve made it look so wonderful, I’ve gotta do it! 😀. Thank you!
Wow ..what a place! The salmon in that part of the world is as good as it gets! I would probably be eating salmon for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.. I love how rainy and misty it is, the most perfect coffee weather. Def seems worth a visit
Sorry to hear about that glacier retreating so far. The ones near here are shrinking too :( Another fantastic video, Alice. I’m glad you were finally able to experience some good bear sightings.
Thank you for the effort you put into this video. I was born and raised in Seattle and I've lived in Juneau for almost 30 years now. Seattle's weather is NOT like Juneau's. Downtown Juneau gets 93 inches of rain a year. Seattle gets 36 inches a year, whereas Juneau gets almost three times as much rain which is always in the form of mist or drizzle, so we have way more rainy days in this part of the rain forest. Comparing Juneau's weather to Seattle is like comparing Seattle's weather to Pheonix (which gets 12 inches a year (a third of Seattle's). George Vancouver in 1794 documented the (named 100 yrs later) Mendenhall Glacier pressing up against Douglas Island (completely filling the Mendenhall Valley, covering the airport and filling Gastineau Channel with glacier and extending over to Douglas Island. Nice try though and good shots and hope you enjoyed our town.
Good for you! I'm glad that you're enjoying seeing so much of this world. I surely envie you. Stay safe, and continue to have fun! 👍😘. Thanks for the video. I liked it. Always.
Another great adventure Alice! Always love where you take us. My wife and I would love to see Alaska. Now that we have retired, we just need to plan it and go!✈️
I love Alaska and its gorgeous scenery! I've only been to Fairbanks and Denali NP and didn't explore nearly enough as I should have. I had no idea that there were no roads leading to Juneau. So interesting. I also didn't know that Juneau rains a lot. Learned a lot from this video!
@@AliceFordAdventures I kinda saw them as I was flying out. I really wanted to see them while I was on land, but it was a unique experience seeing it from the plane too.
Glad you had a wonderful visit to Juneau. Very sorry someone suggested that you take a bus that cost $45.00 round trip from downtown to Mendenhall Glacier when the Captial Transit bus could have got you to the entrance road for a few dollars. The walk from the bus stop to the vistors center only takes 15 to 20 minutes.
ohh I did not know that. Thanks Stacy, sadly I booked a whale watch that also went to the glacier after I had already been and that was more wasted money out of my pocket. I planned this trip three days prior though so these things are bound to happen.
Loved this adventure Alice! We were those people that only got to experience Juneau for a day on our Alaska cruise 😂 We enjoyed seeing the town from your point of view. Sad to hear the glacier has receded so much. -E
I felt dumb sitting on my living room couch telling my dogs (in dog voice of course) “look at those adorable bears …” and then I heard you say you wanted to cuddle them all which made me feel much more comfortable in my behavior 😂😂
To answer your question, I should add there is Kluane National Park which is in the Yukon Territory in Canada 🇨🇦 and borders the state of Alaska. Have you considered the Klondike days region and Chilkoot Trail? This could be an interesting option for you while in the area.
Nice work on the tree carvings... Eating fresh caught salmon as opposed to the "farm fresh" - whatever that means - found in my local stores sounds fantastic. Maybe next time try to catch a salmon yourself (barehanded, of course). Sounds like a fun challenge. Beautiful scenery. What season are you thinking for the next trip up there now that you have some experience?
Amazing!!! Depends on the location and the hike. Always bring my camera but location and subject decides which lens and camera, sometimes I carry around my neck but usually in the pack until I need it
Ok so I see that bad boy 200-600mm lens on your camera. Did you feel like that was enough range for the bears? Or do you wish you had a further zoom?? How far away from the bears were you, would you say??
Hi Rylee, This was perfect for the bears. I was just across the river so about 70-200 feet away depending on where they were. It was however not great for whales but my whale shooting experience is limited. A 24-120 would have been better for whales and some of the other wildlife, especially since it was cloudy. I actually rented this lens from Borrow Lenses too which is a great alternative to buying new lenses.
FAIL: 1:50 - "We're not too far from the Tongass National Forest..." Wrong. You are in the heart of the Tongass in Juneau. But you got it right later. 6:20 - "You can hop on a ship to see the [Mendenhall] Glacier." Wrong. The glacier is on a lake. Ships can't get to the lake. And the park service heavily regulates any motorized boats on the lake. 10:50 - "I kept seeing carcass after [salmon] carcass, a reminder of how many bears had just been here..." Most salmon don't die from bears, they die from spawning. 14:29 - dream come true! I saw four bears (holds up five fingers).
Not stalking them, and that was a joke. I was with a guided tour and never approached any wildlife I sat still on a rock for 3 hours and waited to see if they would arrive
Which Alaska destination from my Alaska series do you want to visit first? Redoubt Bay, Denali or Juneau?

Yes I would love to explore more of canada, This past year and a half has been tricky but I would love to get up North in Canada
Although the 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 border reopens, we are not safe yet. They say the pandemic might be something from the past by summertime. 🤞

The "grizzly" nature of interior brown bears is due to their diet not having the same amount of oils (from fish) that coastal bears are able to get.
Yes and also fat and calories
Lol the Chicagof Bears
How long was the hike to the top of the tram time and length?
It's a little over 3 miles and took me about 90 minutes. You can also continue on to the top of Mt Gastineau if you're looking for a longer hike
Denali.
You are so good

I just need to clarify something, The bears seen in Juneau are Black bears NOT brown bears. Most of the Southeast is inhabited by black bears.
The bears I saw on Chichagof island were indeed brown bears. The bear in juneau was a black bear, I never claimed to see a brown bear in juneau
👍🍎🍏🍵🥧🍰
