Spring is here and it is time to go camping! After much research, I found a new location to backpack to. At the end of the three-mile hike, I would be rewarded with a beautiful waterfall where I would set up a new piece of camping gear, the Battlbox Single Man Tent. The tent was a promotional offer and would be sent to you for "free" if you signing up for a battelbox subscription. For dinner, I packed a chicken noodle MRE from 2012. Although it was 8 years old it still tasted good.

The MREs I had were in dark brown bags instead of tan ones. The Chicken a-la-King meal was the most dreaded ones. We didn't have the heaters in them, so about 90% of the time we ate them cold. Though if we had just been driving, we could crack open the engine compartment of the M113A3 variant and put the pouches on the engine block. Right before I got out they started putting tiny Tabasco bottles in them. I loved the flaky crackers over the saltines and the cheese spread and peanut butter kind of tasted the same so I never ate it, but the PB could be used for glue or a filler in wood. I loved the Apple Jelly on the crackers in fact I still eat them that way. We had John Wayne bars in them. The chocolate covered cookies were great they looked like small track pads. Loved eating the dehydrated fruit, or the dehydrated hamburger or pork patty. Guys were so inventive with the condiments like what you could do with the dehydrated ketchup. My first cup of coffee was in West Germany at a railhead outside of Frankfurt on radio watch in the middle of the night, I mixed the coffee packet with the cocoa, and yeah I still drink my coffee that way.
Over there we would trade our MREs to the German kids would who would buy bread, cheese and meat to trade. Love the hard rolls of Germany. Also loved the T-rations, big trays of food you could warm up. We usually ended up with lasagne and sometimes the pudding t-rations and opening them with the little P38 was no fun.
The scenery was awesome! Love the waterfalls, so beautiful. Your kids pictures were so cute! Thanks for the great adventures. Bless you and your family.

Beautiful area. It is something how the correct and high quality tools make all the difference in the world. And subpar tents just dont cut it. I remember MREs during two horrible back to back hurricanes in Florida in 2004. Francis and Jean destroyed my area. I did not get MREs because I was single and wanted the families to get them. I enjoyed your adventure here. I love the metal tin foil base you put under your sleeping pad. Blessings.
You are definitely right. Having good quality stuff makes all the difference! You didn’t miss much with the MREs but that was very kind of you! Not many people think of others especially during disasters. God bless 😊
In 1970 I went into the army. We had what you call sea rations that were made in 1928. They use cans and my favorite was spaghetti and meatballs we had to eat them cold a number of times and meatballs were covered in lard but when you’re hungry your hungry. they weren’t too bad when we heated them up in boiling water but eating something 40 years old just didn’t cut it those MRIs look fantastic I heard they’re high calorie they keep you going. What I enjoyed about this camp out where the messages left you by your children that is so awesome.

My biggest concern when camping (or any other activity in nature) is venomous snakes. In my area, we have a few species of viper.

Glad to see that you were keeping an eye out for rattlesnakes. Lord knows that the Scab Lands is a great place to find them. I use to fish a place just north of Moses Lake called Rocky Ford Creek. It's loaded with rattlesnakes. If I was you I'd consider burning that tent, but I'm afraid the smoke would be against the good stewardship of the earth tenant. I really do enjoy your videos. Definitely do not want to tangle with a rattler! Would not make for a good day lol that tent was not my favorite that’s for sure.
Lol after Katrina we lived on these MRE's for months...I got to be a master at heating those things up in the bag... Everybody wanted me to heat them up for them cuz they kept burning themselves....never once did I get charms...lol...thanks to you guys dropping them off by the case load at the house everyday...and the water helped a lot also.

I was 12 years old at Boy Scout camp when I had my first MRE... it was like a high tech lunchable.... had another one when I was 21 and homeless... tasted like I wasn’t doing something right... now I just wanna go camping again for a few days and have one or two of these for the last night and morning....

Spent most of 97 in Bosnia eating MRE's lol only had chow hall on weekends at base camp Tuzla Main. Being field artillery lived on MRE's back in Germany too for 4 years. Love it...... Don't miss the ham slice.....

@@BaumOutdoors Yep was in Bosnia from March to October 97, it was pretty quiet, mostly did convoy support and weapon storage site inspection with NATO. Kids would try and steal our MRE's out of the back of the hummers so we started handing out candy to them :)

Yeah just looking at the picture of this when I’m not sure if I can watch it too long but I’m going to try. I get claustrophobic very easily and I don’t know how you did that but I would never climb into that but heck to each his own you know that’s what makes the World go around now to watch this movie

The tent is basically an MRE version of tents!

The MRE is sure different than what we had in 1972 when I served. Ours were not self heating and were all cooked in a boiling barrel of water.

Hi mate, you should look into an Canvas Swag that is made by 23zero, they are in Australia, USA and Canadia. They are ideal for camping but would not be deemed to be carried long distance due to the weight of it.

Yes! I setup the camera hit record then crossed and turned around and picked up the camera 👍 I do that for all my shots lol always walking back and forth 😂

The tent with those little lights look cozy but as you said it is very poor quality. The zipper is terrible.
