Great to see DROP give consumers a solid pair of desktop speakers for a price that seems cheap in todays market! Volume knob and cable although issues that can be fixed by third party items, feels like something that should be kind of standard. Either way for $130 i necessarily wouldn’t be too mad over those design flaws. Great edit, loving the look of the studio and these colors. Killed it!
I'd recommend taking a look at the Vanatoo Transparent Zero or Transparent One Encore. They sound great, have surprising bass thanks to a passive radiator design, and look dead sexy.
@@even1313 $150 msrp HiVi-Swans OS-10 got no competition, best sounding powered speakers under $500, $300 FiiO SP3 are also great and they are built like a tank, you will hurt yourself badly before being able to dmg them, they are all aluminium, thick one at that
I do like the sound. Would recommend a sub though for the low end. What I HATE is the speaker cable. Not only is it cheap as hell for speakers like this it's VERY short. My speakers are 4ft apart and I can just barely run the cable behind monitor to connect them. Just dumb.
That nod to the merch was soooo smooth. Loved the subtlety. These were almost a home run for my upcoming office for me but i do run a dual monitor setup and its fairly mandatory for work, so that proprietary cable situation is a massive bummer for me. These otherwise largely check the boxes for me as I'm very consumer-level when it comes to speakers, so hopefully that gets resolved relatively quickly on their end because this might be an immediate cop at that point. The no volume knob is for sure not fun either, but luckily i have a macropad with a dedicated knob so I can personally work around that (though Id really prefer not to) Hoping some changes come through on the cable end but otherwise, these seem like a truly solid product. Great review man
@@crisnmaryfam7344 Hey man uh, Idk how to tell you this. $129 is very low priced for a good pair of speakers. You may not be the right target market for this product if you disagree with that.
Your description of the BMR1s’ sound reminds me of an old pair of Monsoon planar magnetic desktop speakers I used to have. It’s enough to make me want to buy a pair!
That short proprietary cable and no volume knob is a deal breaker to me. Thanks for the review, i almost preordered it after months of no review about it.
These seem like they would be perfect to use with an audio interface. You can ditch that proprietary cable and just run 2 aux cables from the interface's pre amp outputs. This would also give you a physical volume knob. Edit: I bought these. I use them with an audio interface and they're perfect for my setup. I do have to use the proprietary cable, but that isn't too big of a deal. Big recommend.
These seem pretty similarly priced to my Presonus Eris 3.5, which I was pleasantly surprised at how much punch and clarity they have for a 3.5 inch driver. I just use them for music while working and consuming content, be interesting to see how they stack up to a comparably priced studio orientated monitor
I'll be honest, and mention I'm not interested in these speakers. Yet, your video was very informative. Amazing production quality, great audio. But those things don't make for a great video. You have a great speaking voice, really interesting accent and intonation, and you seem really genuine - and your communication is very clear, well thought out, and well researched. I enjoy your work immensely. You were really made for this line of work, and it's awesome that you decided to go for it. Cheers.
Thank you for reviewing these, I agree about the volume control and that makes them a non-starter for me personally. I assumed a sub of somekind is basically a requirement for full-range sound. Thanks again!
Looks interesting for someone more casual or that lacks the room for bigger speakers or a sub. Personally if I want more bass, i would just go with Vanatoo T0’s for that low bass extension and relatively flat FR.
These are discounted to $70 right now. How comparable is this to something like an Edifier 1280? I just feel like there's a fair bit of distortion on the Edifiers I have.
Once again, just here to watch an insane video. Dont care about the product but your videos are just a marvel to me. Editting, information, jokes.. All 100. Love you Brian
But you can just modify the cable and make it longer - it shouldn't take more than 15 min if you already have some good quality audio cables and soldering gear :)
Thing is, you can get the Klipsh Pro Media 2.1 for that price, I haven't tested these but I don't think they will beat the Klipsh. I think these are a niche for people that would really enjoy the passive radiator style and maybe those finer details in upper mids or highs.
I have these and I love them in my setup... I would like to get a smaller 8" sub for them though. And to that end I just wanted to point out that the links you provide for the 8" sub's referenced in the video are wrong. I can just search for them but I wanted to use your affiliate links as a thank you for the video. Oh well maybe next time.
I considered these, but I wish they'd have more inputs than 3.5. I grabbed the Swan OS-10's on amazon. I been rockin a $50 soundbar, so i'm sure I would have been happy with either. I just don't like 3.5mm for some reason outside of Headphones, or IEM's. EDIT: A sub is out of the question for me. Refuse to have it on my desk. I also have 2 dogs, one of which is prone to seizures, so I try to keep things off the floor.
Mackie released some BMR speakers aimed at gamers there a while ago. They are more expensive but they do have an onboard Dac for USB in. Might be worth checking how they measure up to the drop option?
Saw those! I was curious if anyone else had leveraged that speaker tech. Looks like Mackie did a lot right with the cabling, interface, and UX stuff. Definitely gonna check those out.
@@badseedtech BMR tech got a lot of buzz in the British audio space in the mid 2010s. Cambridge Audio (who I think own the BMR patient?) where pushing it as the next big thing. Cambridge Made the Minx line, Q Acoustics made two really well reviewed soundbars and then interest just fizzled out.
Says mine are shipping out August. Was part of the $100 price. Been waiting for so long. Sound like they’re great for what I needed for my pc (background noise/casual)
is plugging this directly into a magni/modi schitt stack be overloading the speakers? i have tried connecting them twice now but i just get very load reverb out and no actual computer audio.
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Something small with good sound, but just powerful enough to be worth the price. Of course I could get something like a Creative Pebble and save $100, but they won't sound nearly as good as these. Also, completely unrelated q; are your mech switches available still? I never got a chance to grab them before Prevail shut down.
I've been running a 3.1 pc setup with a mirage uni theatre soundbar and klh sub for years now but the size of the setup is a bit overbearing lol. I've always considered sizing down and the bmr1 were always on the list of consideration but with no reviews I couldn't pull the trigger. Thanks for the insight of these as they've moved onto the short list. Any chance you can get Creative to send you one of their Katana v2 soundbars to compare against these?
I like em but theres so many other options with better build snd audio quality out there especially if youre a musician. For $300-$500 you can get either a really nice pair of studio monitors or a true studio 2.1 system (cheaper end because the good stuff is newring the $1300 range these days just for the L and R speakers)
Hey, I've been meaning to switch to Davinci but have been so hard pressed because of my extensive use of Adobe products throughout the board. Is it worth sacrificing AE integration? And can lower end hardware diminish exporting and editing? Thank you.
Man I REALLY hate it when companies have no idea how long a cable should be. Like keyboards back in the day with only a 6 foot cable, which was only solved by making cables standard detachable USB cables. There is really no reason to ever include a 1 meter cable for ANYTHING, because it is entirely worthless unless you're just attaching this to a laptop or something on your desk. Overall, I'm more curious how these would compare to Audioengine, Kanto, Peachtree or other popular small bookshelf speakers that have become common for PCs. Maybe not in the same price category, but the sound signatures can vary greatly.
@@badseedtech yeah I would completely agree.. once you had that best of all worlds it would be hard to go back. Motion clarity is is very underrated and op once it clicks with you.
