  • The Model One Improved, is about 140 years old. It is basically a mini-version of our big Chandler & Price 8x12. Setting up registration is the exact same, as well as dressing the platen with tympan and packing. Aside from the obvious difference in size as well as the fact that this press is operated by hand, IF you want to print polymer plates, you can't use the aluminum Boxcar Base (it's too big). Instead you can use the homemade base made from white plexiglass and plywood. It works exactly the same, just smaller!

I’m trying to find rollers and trucks for one I’m rebuilding, any tips? Oh I need that part that holds both rollers too 😅

Mine came with new rollers when i bought it from the now-defunct Don Black Linecasting in Toronto a few years ago. I did however get new rollers and nylon trucks for a 8x12 Chandler and Price press a while back… I think I may have ordered from NA Graphics in the US. As for other parts, that may be a tougher nut to crack. You may want to post on some letterpress boards, check Briarpress, maybe contact Boxcar Press in NY for leads. There are lots of folx in the letterpress community on Instagram, you could follow some related hashtags and see what you come up with. If you need some closeup pics of the press, send me an email and I’d be happy to do that as well as measure things like the rollers etc. robert.truszkowski AT uregina.ca

@@professortruszkowski yes I’d love to connect and figure out all I’m missing. Did the C&P roller fit this model or was that for another press?

The C&P rollers were for our C&P… my thought was the place I got them from might do them for the Model One as well.
