    If you're using an external keyboard to send notes to digitone/digitakt in this setup, make sure you turn on receive notes on digitone and only use triggless triggers on digitakt when sending lfo triggers, that way it doesn't send notes to the digitone from the digitakt sequence.

I've even managed to get my Keystep rigged up into the setup to send notes to the DN. Really pleased with the setup and tips now at my disposal.

    Great video Dave. I just wanted to add that this should work also for Analog Rytm owners, as there is an Aftertouch modulation destination. And in general with any other instruments that implements those modulations - they’re midi standard!

    Impressive! I was imagining your side chain effect could be varied by changing the trig lengths. Longer trigs would exaggerate the pumping effect and add additional rhythmic feel.?
    Also as someone mentioned “trigless” steps. I think they should call them “noteless” trigs.

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks ! Nope that doesn’t work as the trigs are just triggering the lfo. But you can of course parameter lock different speeds, depths, waveforms etc on each trig or in between trigs etc. To create all kinds of funky rhythms.
      The yellow trigs are actually called ‘trig locks’ :). In octatrack there’s also a type of trig that is called a trigless trig which is why some people refer to the yellow trigs like that.

    Hi Dave another great video that is very useful for me. I wanted to know if there is a way that when I change the pattern on the digitakt it also changes the pattern on the digitone.
    For example, when I go from pattern 1 to 9 on the digitakt, the digitone will do the same without having to change it on the digitione.

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use program changes for this :). Set this up in midi config. Turn on program changes. Another way is to use midi tracks on DT On the src page you will see controls to specify which pattern or preset you want to change another synth to. I have a video on my channel explaining this called midi madness. Cheers :)

  • @enemoy2650
    @enemoy2650 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool idea, I've got a few questions though:
    Firstly, why don't you modulate the Amp directly with the CC value? It is the same one across all patterns, you would just need to remember one CC and it frees up space for one macro to control your sound.
    Secondly, why don't you send mutes from DT to Digitone? That way you could mute and unmute all 12 Tracks from the DT. Wouldn't that be more useful?
    Great video, thanks for the information. The sidschain idea is great.

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is indeed a possibility. But sometimes I rather use the side chaining on base of the base/width filter. Sometimes on overdrive etc. Plus it's also pretty neat to add other destinations to that movement. Nobody stopping anybody from still adding cc control to the mix though :)
      The muting from DT doesn't seem very convenient to me. I can just as easily mute on the DN itself. They are right next to each other. It's also nicer to be able to mute the modulations or midi track parameter locks without also muting the channel on the DN.
      Hope this helped why I chose this route :)

    Nice. Can you do the same trick with midi from Digitakt to same Digitakt without a midi loopback cable.

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately not. There's no internal midi routing and no midi mod matrixes like velocity mod. On the digitone you can use the velocity mod matrix to use velocity parameter locking for interesting results.

  • @emmanuelhourquet3693
    @emmanuelhourquet3693 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really interesting video :) One question : as you have one knob on the Digitakt to control 4 parameters on the Digitone, is it possible to map this knob to an external controler?

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's possible but in that case you might as well connect the midi controller directly to Digitone to control those mod matrixes. If the midi controller allows custom mappings :)

    Great thanks for this 🙌💥...what would be the best setup if you add the Syntakt?

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Various ways. I think I'd try to narrow it down to a few tracks that you want to use this workflow on so that it stays manageable. You could also use the 4 midi tracks on DN to do this trick on 4 syntakt tracks for example :) best to experiment and see what you need

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure the channel set on the DT midi track corresponds with the midi channel set for the track on the DN in midi port config. You're now sending PB to the midi channel that's set as the autochannel. Try turning autochannel to off in the DN midi config :)

    Yet another revelation.
    Can’t you use only one MIDI track (track A) to have both macro control via “modulation wheel” and sudo side chaining via MIDI LFO?
    That way, you could keep DT MIDI track A entirely for DN track 1, DT MIDI track B entirely for DN track 2, and so on…
    Or am I missing something? Why do you use separate MIDI tracks for each task?
    Cheers and Groetjes vanuit Duitsland!

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is certainly a possibility! :). But it's actually quite nice to add more destinations to that "sidechaining". It's also nice to use the base of the base / width filter in stead of volume automation, or both, etc. Plus, it's great to have the option of multiple extra lfo's for one track. The sidechaining is just one aspect of this workflow. The main thing is using lfo's to modulate one of the mod matrixes:)

  • @quiddam
    @quiddam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    so if I get this right... to get the SC trick going on the 4 tracks, you need to configure 4 tracks on the digitakt from 1,...4. If I didn't care about modulating the other params on the digitone, would it be possible to have all 4 Digitone tracks listening to the same midi channel so I only have to configure one track for SC in the Digitakt?

  • @dennyhulten8159
    @dennyhulten8159 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like this setup but I can't for the life in me understand how I would connect my MIDI keyboard in this setup? If I plugin the keyboard in to Digitakt it won't send note to the Digitones due to Receive notes settings has been turned off on Digitone. If I turn on Receive notes on Digitones then you can not use the ducking function with Digitakt LFO without triggering a sound...???

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case use lock trigs (yellow) :). Better to use those anyway but since I don’t sequence the DN from the DT I just ended up always using normal trigs since it’s a bit quicker to input. With lock trigs, make sure LFO.T is locked to ON to each of them on the TRiG page.

    • @dennyhulten8159
      @dennyhulten8159 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ohhh Thank you I thought I hade that trigger on but when you yellow trigger you have to hold all yellow trigger down and they are turned LFO.T off for some reason so you have to manually fix that per trigger.
      Thank you so much for your reply! Happy Eastern!
