Drove one of these while our 2020 Premier 1.5T AWD was in the shop for actuator issues on the AWD. The dealer gave us a 2025 LT FWD CVT with 10 miles to drive as a loaner loved driving it reminded it of the CVTs my Saturns had a lot of fun to drive
you like the ride on this base LT but it actually has the optional 19 inch wheels with less air/cushion between the wheel and potholes. Base 17 inch wheels have 65 series sidewalls so they are very nice.
To be honest, GM's CVT hasnt really been focused as terrible compared to Nissan and other manufacturer's CVT. Also the Honda Civic has CVT and nobody's cussing that car's transmission. However, having an available non CVT auto transmission is always a good thing for customer choice. The weak point of the ICE Equinox is that it has only ONE engine available when it should have two or three, a non turbo variant of the 2.0L or 2.5L engines and a 2.0L turbo option.
I believe this is a similar powertrain as the Malibu 19 on, some folks have put over 180 k miles on there cut with regular oil changes and still going, hopefully that will be the case here
Test drove one, found that the rear camera mirror was useless for me, as I wear prescription glasses for far away and when I looked in that mirror (camera mode) I could not focus on the view at all. I'll get that package just for the 360 view camera, hate that it includes that mirror camera, I just won't use the camera mirror.
Its doesn't suck but it hardly stands out and remains average in many ways even with the new 2025 model. How did they both manage to lose torque and mpg going from a 6 speed auto to a CVT? Why is there only one interior color on most trim levels? Why do the rear seats not recline or move back and forth as they did in the past? Also where is the power option or hybrid? And a return of the Premiere trim level would be a smart move!
Great question! I haven't sampled the CVT in the TB/Encore GX... only the 9-speed with AWD, so I'll have to try them and get back to you on that.- Alex
All CVTs are bad. You can can’t judge it by a test drive. Absolutely shameful that Chevy puts the worst transmission ever designed in the FWD and forces you to buy the AWD to get the good tranny. There’s a reason why Mazda is not using CVTs and other auto brands are getting away from them, including Chevy as evidenced by them not using it in the AWD. 40 year mechanical engineer.
Great video. I need to know if anyone has been experiencing any weird smells coming through the vents on their brand new 2025 equinox? my wife purchased a brand new equinox 2025 about 3 months ago and every now and then for a brief few seconds, she would smell a fume like smell (best description we have so far) and then it goes away and its back to regular car smell. This only happens when the AC is on recirculating, temp medium and fan speed on medium. We brought it to the GM dealership and they replaced the cooling fan (mind u this is a brand new vehicle) which reduced the smell drastically but there are still faint smell every now and then. We don't know what we are inhaling and despite our efforts, the dealership still doesn't know what is causing the smell since they can't seem to replicate it so we are documenting everything to give them, since it is still under warranty. If anyone out there has just bought a chevy equinox LT 2025, please let me know if you have the same issue and what was the culprit and the fix please. This is driving us crazy. I know if this was a BMW and we were having these issues they would have probably done more for us.
@MrTatouA If you smell a weird smell coming from the vents on a new car, particularly a sulfurous or "rotten egg" odor, it could indicate a problem with the catalytic converter, even if it's new, as it might not be fully functioning or could have a manufacturing defect causing it to emit unfiltered exhaust fumes into the cabin. Why this might happen? Break-in period: New catalytic converters need a "break-in" period to reach optimal efficiency, and during this time, they might release some residual smells. Manufacturing defect: In rare cases, a new catalytic converter could have a manufacturing flaw causing it to not properly neutralize exhaust gases, leading to a noticeable smell. Exhaust leaks: A small leak in the exhaust system near the catalytic converter could also allow exhaust fumes to enter the cabin. What to do? Contact the dealership: Since the car is new, reach out to your dealer immediately and explain the smell. They should inspect the car and potentially replace the catalytic converter under warranty. Check for other potential issues: While the catalytic converter is the most likely culprit, also check for any visible signs of exhaust leaks or damage in the exhaust system. Observe the smell: Pay attention to when the smell is most noticeable - does it happen only when accelerating, idling, or at certain speeds? This can help diagnose the problem.

Yes, I owned the Civic with CVT and I cursed it from day one and sold it. Who are you kidding? The gear changing is like mush.

You're literally talking about a segment for the averages here... so is being average a problem?
Nice review but that CVT will all but guarantee a slip in sales. I have a ‘23 with a 6 speed and I have no issues or complaints.
Couldn't put the LSY in there?😒
What do you mean rubbery?
Alex do you think the cvt in the encore GX feel rubbery?

@@Motrolix because in addition, I thought the engine combo on the current Malibu would be the same to the equinox?

I would not even buy Japanese vehicle with turbo but American... 😂😂
This video is not for you🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻
Engine sounds like Crap no different from 99% of all CVT's 😏
If you like sport car...go...buy one
Really ..it's not like you are going to take it on a drag strip@@carlosovni7100
Weak engin to match weak arse CVT. Garbage.
So.... when are you driving it?
That's what I say...most of these people knock it without trying it first@@Motrolix
