Buying beaded earrings from Indigenous people supports the Native American community 🥰 If you are not sure about buying them because you're not-native yourself- when you buy authentic native made you have bought the right to wear them, we wont sell you what is inappropriate to wear 😊 You can politely ask what Tribe an artist is a member of, and where their family is from.

I have a pronunciation note! Someone might have already said this, and you got it right with Joey’s intro, but “anishinaabe” and “kwe” both end with an “aye” sound, like in “way”! Also, a bonus is “kwe” means woman in anishanaabemowin (or the Ojibwe language) 😊
This makes me so happy- I’m Cree and trying to connect back where I can, and part of that has been re-learning to flat bead and learn how to make earrings over the last year.

I prefer smaller earrings for myself, but I can absolutely appreciate the beauty and work that goes into those pieces of art. Years ago I attempted to make bracelets with seed beads. Just getting the right needle and thread to be able to do patterns was a struggle! Nothing worse than getting thread that is thin enough to go through beads multiple times for complex patterns, only for it to break and your work to fall apart.

I love this, a Lil hack I use to keep my large earrings secure is I put bandaid skin behind my ear hole and poke the earrings thru it saves the lobe.❤

That is a serious earring collection 😮 and stunningly beautiful. I can almost picture a diminutive art gallery on a wall.

thank you sm for showing us your collection!!! It’s been a while since I’ve beaded because of college but I’m on a break right now. Seeing the beadwork/quillwork really inspired me and I think I’m gonna pick it up again (matter of fact literally right now). I’m sure I’ve got a lot of WIPs I need to finish 😭
