My favorite ones are Carol, Gia, Kissing Jessica Stein and Blue is the Warmest Colour. Really enjoyed these films and have seen them multiple times.

oh dear god do I love that mini-series. such good acting. Maud and Sue are just beautifully complex people who deserve each other. Fingersmith the film came out in 2005 but recently a Korean film with the same exact plot was made, The Handmaiden. I plan to watch that soon.
i've seen quite a few and my favourite by far is the handmaiden
this video was posted in 2018, but PERSONAL REVISION: Portrait of a Lady on Fire is by far the single best depiction of lesbian love I have seen. It's directed by lesbian film-maker, Celine Sciamma, starring LGBT actress Adele Haenel. It has an almost entirely female cast and crew, with no significant roles played by men. It's soft and slow and real and a historically accurate period piece that I have found hard to come back from. If there Is any film I wish I could forget just to see again for the first time, it would be that one. I have seen it 4 times already and it still makes me cry. On Hulu if you all want to check it out... 11/10

There are so many great movies you missed. And Carol as #1?? It was one of the worst, most tedious movies ever made.
Thank you!! I am so glad I am not alone on this. My wife and I both disliked this movie. We got a lesbian friend of our to watch it and suprise she hated it. I feel Carol is one of the worst Lesbian movies I've ever watched. I really think Cate Blanchett is a good actress but not in this movie. And Rooney Mara is just a terrible actress. I haven't seen anything she was in that I've liked her acting in so if someone disagrees with this assumption of her abilities please proved me wrong with a stellar performance of her's. The story is rough and dry. In my honest opinion Kyle Chandler was the best acting in the entire movie.
What are we missing that made this movie so fantastic?

Fingersmith isn't a movie; it's a miniseries, so maybe that's why.
Both Fingersmith and Handmaiden are adaptatioms of the same book.

Recently watched Reaching for the Moon. You should watch it, a truly masterpiece. The acting from both main actresses is so brilliant, cinematography, script wise and everything. I've been rewatching it for god knows, how many times now because of how good it is. Not to mention, it's based on the true love story (if i may call it) of the famous poet Elizabeth Bishop, and the brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares.
I recently watched that movie and it was one of the most beautiful most amazing and heart breaking movie I've ever watched !

So I notice Handmaiden on some of these but no mention of Fingersmith. Part of me wonders if Handmaiden is better or if people just haven't seen Fingersmith. I haven't watched Handmaiden yet but Fingersmith is one of my favorite movies of all time so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy Handmaiden as well.

I've seen both movies and personally I like Fingersmith more than The Handmaiden. Both of them are very good, but the styles of two films are quite different due to the nationalities, i think that's the key.
I liked the handmaiden better bc the cinematography blew my mind and also (spoilers) at the end it felt like the couple is in control of the situation. It seemed they took less decisions for themselves in fingersmith ; like, most things were decided for them, planned by Gentleman and Mrs Sucksby. But both are great adaptations of the same novel
I watched them both. It is just a simple way to describe these two works. Handmaiden is godfather 2 and fingersmith is godfather 1 . Many people consider godfather 2 is the very few sequel surpassed the original. This is a very simple way to look at them. Indeed many people would not agree. But I like the Korean one more for 2 reasons. 1 , those Korean actresses nailed the love scenes. Really went very very far. I salute to them. 2, every love scenes in that movie is for the sake of pushing the storyline. So, it's not that unnecessary. It is quite needed. That movie is super entertaining and sexy. Very well done I think. It's just that the basics storyline (fingersmith) is very good.

I love the movie Handmaiden! There’s an English version (Fingersmith) that is similar, but Handmaiden is waaaay better!
