Nebraska fans wanted Frost to work out and are really disappointed and shocked at how bad it went; the team lost too many close games because of terrible situational football. However, most NU fans are highly optimistic Mickey Joseph can give the team a boost. He was a top assistant at LSU during their national title run in ‘19 and is going to bring more of an Ed Orgeron/Pete Carroll approach that motivates players and makes practices more intense. NU is a long shot to win, but don’t sleep on them with Coach Joseph running the show now.

It’s been like 6 days since he was fired, that’s an impossible task for anyone to take over as coach and completely flip a team in that time. Maybe they will want to play for Mickey more and come out more fired up, but a team that has had bad habits instilled in them forever don’t just change in the span of less than a week… if Mickey is the guy, it will show throughout the season, just beating the teams they supposed to beat in the big ten west along the way, and stop making stupid penalties, decisions, and be able to make adjustments and overcome adversity to win those close games. Something that Frost could only dream of

As a Nebraska fan, I am so tired of the regurgitated "If not Scott Frost, who?". The problem with Nebraska is nepotism. We keep thinking that only a former Nebraska guy can bring back Nebraska football. If we aren't willing to look outside of former Nebraska guys, we are going to keep being disappointed. I wanted Frost to be the guy so much. But he wasn't. It didn't work. I would also love for Mickey to be the guy. The story of a former Nebraska guy leading Nebraska football back to relevance would be awesome. But Nebraska, both the university and the fans, need to stop staking our entire personality on it ONLY being a former Nebraska guy.

I don't know why if OU romps Nebraska, they suddenly enter the national conversation. Beating Neb by 10, 15 or beating them by 30 means nothing more for OU than it did the first two week. It proves nothing more than they are one game better than last week. This is not a good Nebraska team, talent or otherwise. In fact anyone could easily make an argument that the Kent State team OU just faced is far superior to Georgia Southern and maybe even better than Nebraska.
A close game tells us more about the direction of Nebraska the rest of the season, but nothing more or less tells us anything thing else.

I don't think it had anything to do with the 1990's, but I do believe it had to be the jump to the B1G conference that has made a huge difference in their fortunes. When they were in the Big 8 and later Big XII their most difficult opponents were Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, and maybe Texas A&M.Otherwise they rolled through their other conference opponents. However, once they jumped to the B1G they not only had to worry about competing with the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin, but they also had to deal with insurgent teams like Iowa, Michigan State, and even Northwestern from time to time. Even though they didn't always play Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State during the regular season, they only managed to get to the B1G Championship game only once and got blown out of that game when they did. I thought Scott Frost was the perfect hire for the program when he was signed there, but it just never worked out.

Trying to get people to watch the game? It is not going to be competitive. OU is probably going to be up 30+ points at half.
I think the Scott Frost firing was not mishandled. They gave him every possible opportunity they could. Once they realized early in this season that it wasn't going to work out they didn't just stick it out for the season. As soon as they knew it was done they made changes to move on. This is going to speed up the rebuild process by a year.
The only way they mishandled the Scott Frost termination is that they probably should have fired him at the end of last season. I think the reason they didn't is because they wanted to be sure it wouldn't work. They tried to give him every possible opportunity to be successful.

Besides the discipline and accountability issues that are starting to publicly surface, Nebraska's biggest problem is crippling pressure to bring back not just a football program but the dying soul of an entire state. That is a debilitating place to be at mentally and the Husker program has largely suffered under the weight of those Greek pantheon-esque expectations established in the 90s. I'm a devout, lifelong Husker fan and feel confidently that the only meta-narrative that has really affected this program for the last 25 years is not moving on from the 90s. Nebraska can still recruit, it's finding guys outside of Texas, and it's still a media magnet despite growing parity in TV exposure. The 90s expectations are soul crushing to players and coaches here, and if Trev Alberts can actually purge that 90s worshipping mentality from the program and surrounding fanbase culture, that'll do more than any specific coaching hire. (interesting note - Trev Alberts helped establish that 90s culture as a player so it should say something he wants reference to it gone)
My take is that Mickey Joseph doesn't have any real expectations for this game which could mentally free up the players - for the reasons I cited above. Frost was the culmination of that "replicate the 90s" attitude and it failed. May it be a positive and GBR

@@bokesnmokes The building the Pantheon, yes. "Pantheon" is also the general term for any group of gods in a polytheistic religion. My "Greek panthon-esque" comment was referencing the fact that of all groups of gods, the Greek group of gods seems to be the group that all of the others are compared to. They are the biggest and the best in Western culture....which is the impression most people have of 1990s Nebraska.

Why 'stunned'? Isn't The Worst Ever pit filled with alumni-coaches and their divorces? At least Husker fans can go back to bragging about always having the best ever coaches. uh huh... sure...

This is going to be a trap game for Oklahoma. I am an OU grad and I think Nebraska might win outright.

It's not a trap game if everyone is saying it's a trap game. Usually teams who have just lost their head coach are very energized. Kansas State will be the trap game right before Texas.

I expect Nebraska to come out fired up and ready to go. IF, OU's OL is ok and the first half of the Kent State game did raise SOME questions, the OU will be very good. The D is a good deal better and will just get better, Venables D tends to be pretty complex and not the easiest to pick up, they get better every game. I do wonder, and I'm an OU fan, about Lebbies O and I wonder if it isn't......a big gimmicky.
