    That works surprisingly well, that machine must have a decent flow rate. That auger looks way beefier than my tractor one.

    Hard to imagine that bolt is an actual shear pin since it's on a hex shaft. Agree on the tractor augers. I always wondered why they don't have a transmission on the auger head that would let you shift in a gear for reverse. It'd cost more, but the time saved not backing an auger out manually seems like it would be worth it to a lot of people. And if you shake it more than three times, you're just playing with it :)

    I've had years of frustration trying to hook up the 3 point augur just to have to jump on it and pour water down the hold just to get it to try and bite - definitely not worth the headache or safety issues.
    Picked up the Deere equivalent of your baumalight for my skid steer and what a difference, only issue is every time you use it you remember what it cost!

      Three point hitch augers are a compromise at best.

    I just dug two 4 foot holes with a predator auger from harbor freight (hold them loose boys or break your wrists!) and a traditional manual hole digger. LOTS of rocks, probably 3-4 times what you pulled out here. Had the option to use a tractor auger my neighbor has but they are such a pain in the ass I couldn't do it. Anyways, after watching this video, I want one of these, and hate you just a little bit, as I think back to all the hours and bug bites it took for me to dig two holes.

    FYI, you need to pay attention to the plumb of the auger bit while you are digging because you were digging at an angle.

    If you have a 3rd function line on a tractor that uses a standard skid steer attachment could you use this on a tractor?

    Brock , The pin is for if u put an extension on it I'm guessing . Tell them that they should do a giveaway 🤪, I want one , would that work on your jd ? Asking wondering if I could use on my 2 series bobcat/ koiote

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was thinking the same thing with that pin as it being used for an extension shaft for deeper holes.
      No, that auger won't work on the JD....the quick attach is a lot different on a JD than other quick attach systems, plus a mini-skid steer has a different size quick attach than your regular tractors do....and the tractor don't have enough hydraulic flow to run that auger.

  • @wildbill23c
    @wildbill23c 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The auger for a skid steer was great....having an auger for the mini-skid steer is great too, lots of places you can get those mini-skid steers into that you can't get a full size skid steer into or a tractor for that matter.
    Since you've used both augers now, one on your skid steer and the one on the mini-skid steer....is there really any reason to have one for both machines or just buy one for one of the machines and be done, other than I'd probably go with one for the mini-skid steer due to the machines much smaller and easily maneuverable size.....
    Don't they make a trencher for the mini-skid as well? If not they should LOL....landscapers would love that especially to get into these tiny hard to access subdivision back yards.

    It may just be the camera perspective, but you appear to be bumping the mini backwards a few times just after the auger starts digging. This makes it appear that your hole is going in at a slight angle.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you do not back up, then you will be way off on your angle.
      As this boom or any Skid steer boom lowers, it comes closer to the machine.
      You absolutely have to back up. I actually don’t think I backed up enough to get it straight
      It really helps to have a second person who can stand off to the side and tell you if you were straight because it’s hard to see from the seat

    Can't understand the value of a shear bolt (3:17) on a square shaft. Maybe a translation error?

    Looks like your tape slipped when you measured out the 2nd hole. I’d recommend getting some stakes and some layout line and doing the layout properly to make sure they are in the right spot and most of all, square. Essential Craftsman has a good video on doing it easy.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don’t really have to square anything up to dig the first two holes, which is why I only dug the first two holes.
      And yes, I had to go back and reset the first side of the tape

    You wouldn't go 6 inches with that in upstate NY ...or much of the east coast for that matter . What you're calling "rocky ground" would be topsoil here haha . Come to upstate NY or Northeast PA , see some glacial drop , digging from hell ! The jack hammer would be a nice attachment though

  • @usmarshall336
    @usmarshall336 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Honestly I didn't see anything that was easier about putting it on a tractor versus that machine.. You know, you come up with new attachments every week, but eventually, people are going to run out of money.. I guess you can pick this up at a rental store.. Before you start digging any holes call 811 before you dig!!

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Showing something is not advocating that everybody buy it. For most of us this is something you would rent. Last year, I rented one for the skid steer when I already owned a 3-point version. In that case it was because I didn’t want to get the tractor into that tight spot.
      As far as ease of use, there is a huge difference. I will never take that auger off of that drive motor again and you saw me set it down at the end. You can remove it and install it while it is assembled. With a three-point version, it is a wrestling match to put on.
      With this, it’s 30 seconds on the machine and ready to go.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Call 811 so they can come out and mark a bunch of nonsense, and you hit something vital anyhow LOL. They aren't the greatest LOL.
      You've never hooked up a 3 point auger then obviously. If you think its the same.

    • @usmarshall336
      @usmarshall336 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @wildbill23c That is true. I've never had a 3-point auger.. that is the old man tool!I've always had a front-end/ quick hitch auger for a tractor 🚜!!
