  • I know it's a pretty long title. The word kamikazetokubetsukōgekitai means Kamikaze Special Attack Corps, although the official name of the unit was Tokubetsu Kōgekitai (Special Attack Unit) kamikazetokubetsukōgekitai (meaning divine wind Attack Corps) was the popular name which it was known with.
The person in the picture is Ensign Kiyoshi Ogawa, who flew his aircraft into USS Bunker Hill during a kamikaze mission on 11 May 1945
Due to a request I will post the kanji and romanji lyrics
    Lyrics: (Romanji)
    Munen no hagami kotae tsutsu
    machinima machi taru kessen no
ima koso teki o hokuran to
    furuitachi taru waka-sakura
kono isen ni kata zare ba
sokoku no yukute ika nara n
gekimetsu seyo no mei uke shi
    kamikaze tokubetsu kōgeki tai
okuru mo iuku mo konjō no
wakare to shire do hohoemi te
    bakuon takaku kichi o keru
ā kami washi no nikudan kō
taigi no chishio kumo some te
    hisshi hicchū taiatari
    tekikan nado te nogasu beki
miyo ya fumetsu no dai senka
    gaika wa takaku todoroki kedo
ima wa kaera nu masurao yo
chihiro no umi ni shizumi tsutsu
    naomo kōkoku no mamori shin
    netsurui tsutau kao age te
kun o shinobu kuni no min
eikyū ni wasure ji sono na koso
    kamikaze tokubetsu kōgeki tai
    kamikaze tokubetsu kōgeki tai
    Lyrics: (Kanji)

Let us not forget that America placed an embargo on them preventing them from getting 88% of their oil to goad the Japanese into a fight(what do you think would happen if Russia prevented America from getting 88% of its oil?) and if you want any more evidence remember that some of America’s biggest military bases are still in Japan and Germany over 75 years after the war ended we just wanted excuse to get involved and have a military base in Europe and Asia

I'm American myself and hate all the people around me saying that America is best without even know the atrocities we have committed. In western culture suicide is seen as the easy way out. The guy didn’t want to see it through to the end so he ate a bullet.
In japan it’s different. In japan being captured is one of the most dishonorable things you can do. You must fight to the death and go out in a blaze of glory, not get captured and kept alive when all your comrades died for the emperor.
Seppuku is done when someone makes a mistake essentially. When a officer’s actions lead to defeat the cut their stomach to show their warrior spirit to show that they’re not a coward. They do that to make up for their mistakes.
There’s nothing soft about slicing yourself open with a short sword my guy.
This is also why the Japanese did Gyokusai during the battles in Asia and in Okinawa.
They’d rather die than be captured.
Also calling kamikaze pilots coward is *extremely* disrespectful.
They fought for their country and paid for it with their life. It wasn’t mindless suicide. It was a precession attack at the cost of their lives.

Why do you think people think that? Only because that's what Japan's been becoming since the end of the war. Every day, Japanese step further away from the spirit from which these displays of valorant character were born. That's the meaning of all these Japanese nationalists, people outraged at the stupefication of their folk, forgetting what self-denial, selflessness, and sacrifice made such a great nation. Now Japan is rotting and decaying like any other Westen nation and sinking slowly into immorality.
Well, I prefer not to think on such doomsday terms, but undoubtedly that's where I see Japan's future, at least as of now.

When I was a teenager, I was privileged to hear a lecture by a kamikaze pilot who miraculously survived. He spoke at length, albeit in a very thick accent, about the measures they took to brainwash him into that willingness to throw away his life. It wasn't filmed and TH-cam didn't exist. Thank you for preserving this bit of wartime propaganda. It's so easy to forget that the suicide pilots weren't born to be weapons, they were just made that way.
