Always buy commercially packaged Coffee Beans Not grounds. Fresh-ground coffee is better. There are Inexpensive grinders online both Manual and electric.

Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app made customs process a breeze. My friends that decided not to download the app and fill out the forms waited over an hour to get through customs.

Replace shoelaces with the lace lock laces. When you loosen them they turn your shoes into slip ons but you don’t have dangling laces

I have two tips. I combine a pre-security bathroom visit with getting ready for security. During this visit I take off any sweater or jacket I may be wearing, make sure my sure my shoes are easy to take off (if I'm not wearing slip ons), and pull out anything that I know or suspect will be required (laptop, toiletries etc.) to be placed in a bin or might look odd enough to warrant inspection. The other thing I do is I put of those items into a reusable shopping bag. This makes it easy to carry various loose items through the security line and once through security allows me to get out of the quickly as I can just shove my laptop, toiletries, etc into the shopping bag and grab my stuff and go. I use a bright orange bag that I got at Home Depot years ago. Seeing that bright orange bag also serves as a visual reminder to check that I've gotten everything. Plus, as a bonus I always have a reusable shopping bag with me on the trip.

Years ago I was pulled aside and the TSA agent wanted to feel around my middle area. When I asked why, she said, "We have to check anything that looks bulky, Ma'am." This was after two extremely large men went through ahead of me. I'm still offended, ha.

If you’re travelling with, erm, adult toys, they will almost certainly be flagged, especially if they have batteries, so, yeah, be emotionally prepared to have someone whip those out of your bag. I had this happen on my last flight (travelling hand luggage only), just told the agent immediately what the item was, and he was very good about keeping it out of sight of others while checking. Although the smirk was unmistakable 😂
Also, if like me you travel with a lot of prescription medications, for many countries you’ll need them to be in the original box and may need a copy of your prescription, especially if they are controlled substances (I have morphine, for example). You may not be able to take some medications into certain countries at all. Keep everything together and in an easy to access place as they do get commonly flagged. Medications that are liquids and creams shouldn’t count towards your liquids allowance but I’d still be wary of carrying large amounts, and they still need to be with your other liquids for going through security.

Just flew out of Tokyo/Haneda earlier this week, took two minutes - shoes and light jacket on, liquids and electronics still in my bag, all I did was make sure my pockets were empty for the scanner. All that without the Pre-check scam 😂

The order which I put things on the belt for scanning makes a difference. I put the most complex item first then a bin with highest value most important items then a bin for least important or lowest value items like shoes/belt. This way if there is a delay or added scanning needed it get done first and doesn't delay other items while I wait at the other end of the belt and the middle bin has added protection by a bin in front and behind it for less risk of theft or accidental picking up by another traveler.

Oh and top tip: If there are bins aim to use 1 bin for everything. When the bin comes out the scanner immediately pick it up and move to the tables. Most airports have tables for you to take your time and repack/gather your things - to avoid clogging up the conveyors.
and ABSOLUTELY put the bins back!!!!!! I see so many people just leave them on the conveyer for the agents to handle which slows down the entire process for everyone.

After you go through DON’T get redressed and repack at the belt. Grab your stuff and move aside. There are tables at almost all security areas just for that reason.

I think they are getting stricter about the slings, make sure your carry-on has room for it. Recently I went through security, took off my hoodie and put it in my bag only to get stopped during boarding.

Does hand sanitizer have to be part of your liquids bag, or is it exempt?

I’ve flown on over 20 flights since Covid-19 through 6 different countries and they seem to ignore the hand sanitizer strapped to the outside of my pack. But that has just been my experience.

Traveling would be a heck of lot less stressful if TSA got their act together and had their procedures consistent in all airports. Shoes off, shoes on, lap tops out, lap tops in, belts off, belts on, watches off, watches on. As to TSA agents, I got randomly selected for a pat down once while wearing a short sleeved shirt and shorts. The agent actually patted down my bare arms and legs. What a dolt.
