These hazy textures and crispy blips are exquisite. To me it sounds like a perfect musical translation of a winter breeze on a sunny morning. Ethereal, uplifting, warm and cold at the same time...
Thank you. Yeah, this piece was just one of those takes that just all flowed like magic. Very little was prepared and it all just sort of happened. When I listen back there’s so much structure to it, but it was all unplanned and new. I live for moments like those.
Awesome! That’s freaking great. Thank you for sharing... and for listening on your commute! This song emerged as if by magic. The take was unlike any of the other takes I had recorded. It just all came together as if guided by an invisible force. And this song for sure is going to end up on a cassette I’m self-releasing this winter, so stay tuned. Hit up my list if you not already on and want first dibs: bit.ly/lightbathemails
This track is going on a Bandcamp album and I'll be announcing pre-orders for the limited-cassettes VERY SOON. If you're following me on Bandcamp and/or subscribed to my email list, you'll get the notification as soon as it's announced. All the tracks have been re-mixed and mastered and I'll tell you a secret, Guardian Suite will be the first single and is launching on streaming services the day of the announcement.
I typed out a whole big reply but I just can't. This is one of those tracks that rocks me like Steve Reich's music and Autechre's music, some of my favourites.
Thank you. I suggest watching a ton of videos and paying attention to the similarities in modules. Join a forum or a place where you can talk to others, go on ModularGrid and start playing around, use VCV rack and start patching. Remember that less is more, start small and try to add only one thing at a time. If you don’t know which way to go don’t go anywhere and keep using what you have until the path forward is clear. Find ways of borrowing or demoing modules at stores. Remember that it’s okay to sell a module that doesn’t work for your system. Buying secondhand can save money in the long run and make it easier to recoup the entire cost if you need to sell. And lastly... join Club Lightbath over on Patreon if you want some guidance ;) I’ll be opening up new teaching and consulting tiers this Winter. Possibly before the new year, but definitely in January if not before. Have fun.
Thanks for listening. Yeah, I was pretty happy when that rhythmic part emerged as it did. This whole take just came together so naturally, almost magically. It was unlike any of the other takes I had performed when exploring this piece and I knew it was ‘the one’.
Thanks. I took a look at my Patch Notes Archive over on Patreon and it looks like René through Shifty and O_C Quantermain were the two quantized voltage sources for this piece.
Thanks. Sisters is great, especially when more inputs/outputs are used (unlike how I'm using it here). But here it works well as a variable width bandpass. I also really, really love Belgrad as a filter. I tend to prefer the sound of Belgrad as it's grittier and more flexible as a single input/single output filter, but do really love the flexibility of Three Sisters.
GH4 and the native 12-35 (full frame equivalent of 24-70) f2.8. And I almost always shoot at full zoom as 70mm gives a nice look with more background blur.
You should find someone who was a phone switchboard operator (which ended in the 1970s so hopefully there are still some around who remember) and spend the day patching with them
Hello i know this is a personal question..... BUT..... Can you point me in the direction of a few of the modules you couldn't live without when creating your ambient tracks, Im looking for texture modules like Clouds or modules that make ambient textures possible! Love the vids thanks!
Thanks. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Forums are a good place to start. I also hold a monthly Google Hangout as part of my 'Octahedron' Patreon tier where questions like this are totally appropriate for the group discussion: patreon.com/lightbath
So beautiful, as always. I just cancelled my order for Chronoblob and am now waiting for Magneto. But that little blob is so nice! I guess having both doesn‘t make much sense in a 208hp rack..
Thanks. I change things occasionally. Sometimes Chrono, sometimes Magneto, sometimes Rainmaker. At the moment, Chronoblob is back in the performance case to make room for other types of functionality. But delay is at the top of my list of priorities and I nearly always have two delays in any 6U system. I made a video the other day of a piece using this config and I expect it to publish soonish.
Lightbath Looking forward to that video. If money was no issue I‘d have Chronoblob, too. Just „traded“ Clouds for Nebulae, but wish I could have both. 😃
This planet used to be a tiny planet in the old times. Folks were as small as chipmunks. THEN the planet massively grew and the biggest peeves of the chipmonk wii people became way bigger. Now we live in a world where music listeners are deaf and visual identification is blind. HEY HEY HEY every chipmunk can be a cop. Wiiton GO TO BED.
Thanks. I’d have to check the patch notes to be 💯 but I’m pretty sure that’s Rings into T-Wrex and Chronoblob that’s then also sampled by Morphagene for an additional layer.
3 years later still a masterpiece.
🙏

Ethereal, uplifting, warm and cold at the same time...
I've recently been listening to your ambient music, layered over brown noise and isochronic tones....pretty amazing combination for focused work
WOWWWW Those textures!!!! Those little bitcrushed blips!!! My brain and ears are loving this!
Wow time flies! 5 years already
seriously, what is time anymore?
Imagine after the 12 minutes you find out you didn’t record
Ha! Been there. Such a horrible feeling to have played your best only to later realize that it’s gone forever.
Like tears in the rain, as they say
These are the kind of sounds I loooove hearing from a modular system. Well done.
omg and then there's the outro, it's flawless
Thank you! It's one of my favorites. Yeah, this take all happened like magic. Thanks for going deep with it.
Drifting, evolving to the end.
Absolutely beautiful.
(late to the party but so glad I came)

BEAUTIFUL TEXTURES. BEAUTIFUL HARMONICS.
🌟
You remind me why I started modular. Thank you for sharing your talent with us
This song is the exact amount of time it takes me to drive to work. Right down to the second this time around. Love you Lightbath!

So hypnotic. WoW! Cool new direction at 4:50ish...🔥🔥🔥
I will give you money for a bandcamp album that I can download and listen to on my phone in the mountains of Bhutan

Thanks. I’m on all of them as far as I can tell, and definitely on Spotify and Apple Music. Which were you wishing for?
@@Lightbath gief casettes please :(

Great and Inspiring!
It reminded me "Us and them" intro.

Ahhh yeah man. Love the evolution here, and watching your case(s) evolve! Have to catch up soon.

This is so good. I particularly love when the rhythm kicks in during the 2nd half. Really nice stuff!!
The pacing with this piece is just terrific. Keep 'em coming!
Needles! Thank you.
2nd half's patch is fucking amazing
Thank you. This piece came through as a pure transmission from start to finish.
Gorgeous sound. Beautiful to wake up to. Thank you! ❤️

Thanks. I took a look at my Patch Notes Archive over on Patreon and it looks like René through Shifty and O_C Quantermain were the two quantized voltage sources for this piece.
Had a great driving pulse feel. Good stuff. So do you think the sisters is worth it? Thinking of getting one.
