That scene where Pete and Goofy were talking about their parenting style in the jacuzzi that's like one of the first times in a Disney movie where it got real it almost seemed like Goofy was holding himself back from coming at Pete's parenting method after Pete responded me with "My son respects me"

I gotta say, one of my all time favorite parts of this movie was when Goofy was angry at Max. i mean even though i like Goofy being cheerful all time it was actually really satisfying to see him display genuine anger for a change, especially because it proves that even the most cheerful person alive can feel angry sometimes.

One of the best scenes in the movie was when Max and Goofy are in the car and they're about to make their big turn. Goofy hardly says anything but you know what he's thinking from his expressions. At first he looks disappointed finding out his son deceived him. Despite knowing he changed the map Goofy still has Max make the call on which way they go, left or right. You can hear it in his voice that Goofy wants Max to make the right decision. Ultimately, Max doesn't.
Now, Goofy had been angry in the classic shorts and Goof Troop, but those were played for laughs. Here, it's taken seriously. Goofy knows his son just lied to him. Throughout the movie he tolerated Max's moodiness but Max has finally crossed a line. I love how Goofy doesn't say a word, it makes this moment more powerful than anything he could have said. Max tries to act casual but that seems to anger Goofy even more. Angry Goofy is a scary sight.
To Max's credit, he seems to realize his dad knows what he just did and tries to explain himself. I don't think Max meant any disrespect towards his dad, it's just that he's desperate to pull off this lie he told Roxanne and he didn't really think his plan through. We know he's not a bad kid, he just made stupid decisions. Even if Goofy never learned Max tampered with the map, he's gonna notice they're in LA and not Lake Destiny. Goofy is stupid, but he's not that stupid. I love the line where Goofy says, "Why bother, I'm probably too stupid to understand, right?" This plan assumes he's that stupid and Goofy takes that as an insult.

I'm still really hopeful for a "Goof Troop" reboot that takes place after college where it focuses on Max and Roxeanne's family trying to live daily life, where Goofy shows up as the loveable Granpa to Max's kids, PJ, Max, and Bobby work together, Roxeanne and Stacy work together, and Bobby and Stacy used to date. It would be fun to have that where the series can have two separate focuses on both the adult characters (for older fans who grew up with the series/movies), and the kids for the younger audience who never watched the original series.

It's a 90's movie sure but a excellent one to be honest. A goofy movie is one of Disney's best movies from the era that had highlights like Beauty and the beast and The Lion King but I feel like this movie is a great honorable mention to that era's big hits they had. Wired to see goofy this silly, fun guy turn into this serious and mature one that we never got to see till this movie. Just looking at piss off goofy makes you go, "Oh you really screwed things up with your dad Max to get him this mad!", A Classic then and now as touching too being a good reflection of parents with their kids.

This movie is such a great nostalgia trip for me, both as something I enjoyed as a kid and being a 90s time capsule. Seriously, the way they captured the environment at the time of its development felt very genuine, like with the backgrounds, technology, and clothing. I also really admire how they used the 'Perfect Cast' fishing technique as a way to help Goofy and Max connect with each other, like when Max used said technique to save Goofy during the waterfall scene and when they turned it into a dance move at the Powerline concert. It was a perfect element to tie in the 'parent/child bonding' theme of the movie, especially for the final song.
As for the character designs, even as a kid I always preferred the 1930s-40s cartoon look for Goofy compared to the smaller eyes he had in the 1950s shorts and "Goof Troop." Not to say I was against the latter appearance, nor that I disliked said cartoons with that look (I actually enjoyed them, too), but the design where the eyes fully encompass the top half of Goofy's head just seemed more appealing to me. So personally, I was glad this movie retained that aesthetic for Goofy and Pete.
Whatever you're looking at from Osamu Tezuka, I can't wait.

One thing that I want to highlight about A Goofy Movie is that it seems to have a commentary about generation gap. This rings relevant with the "ok Boomer" meme being used by millennials to dismiss any condescension from older generation.
The radio scene is one part as Goofy and Max fight over which song to listen to. Max begins to dislike Goofy for making him come to an awful vacation.
However, we see that despite their generation gap, both Max and Goofy do make a compromise to work together and care for one another as father and son.
So yeah, who knew A Goofy Movie had some meaningful layers to it?

What I liked about this movie is the brilliant voice acting. Bill Farmer manages to show his range as Goofy here even when’s he upset or angry. Jason Marsden’s performance as Max sounds like a real-life teenager trying to struggle and achieve everything in life. Jim Cummings performance as Pete, when he’s trying to give advice to Goofy on how to be a good father was just so realistic and emotional. Pauly Shore as Bobby was a perfect casting choice. and Wallace Shawn was outright scary here as Principal Mazur, when he’s angrily calling Goofy for what Max did at the assembly and threatens to put him in the electric chair.

This is one of the movies I watched the most growing up and I learned I was not alone when I was in a sea of 90's kids watching this almost regularly on VHS and when the internet arose, I was astonished by how A Goofy Movie became very popular to the point where people on TH-cam covered all the songs and the movie still was being talked about even more than 20 years after it's release, so AniMat this was one of those rare moments where you can take a Disney character like Goofy and have him and his son Max have a good road trip movie with a timeless soundtrack and impressive animation that is so timeless. And of course a sequel would follow through with An Extremely Goofy Movie, which had little to do with this, but it is nice we got to see the characters of Goof Troop/A Goofy Movie come back. I wish they would have made a third film to catch up on the events with a grown up Max dealing with the same dilemma he had with his dad with his son, and Goofy wanting to make some reconnections with Max again, and maybe we can see supporting characters like Roxanne, Pete, PJ, and even Bobby back with their original voices. But if they do it they must do it in 2025 for a third Goofy movie.

The movie ages like a fine wine. I love the little romance between max and Roxanne. I wish they had more screen time with Roxanne but I understand with the budget they had. Goofy and Max are adorable in the end Max excepts hes like his dad. Roxanne thinks Max laugh is funny and adorable. Overall I love this movie and I could watch it many times without it losing its heart touch feeling.

To mark AniMat finally reviewing one of my all-time favorite animated Disney movies, it’s time for ArbyTV’s top 10 fun facts about A Goofy Movie
#10. In addition to his cameo alongside Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse also makes a cameo appearance in the crowd at the powerline concert at the end of the film.
#9. In addition to their cameo during the song “On the Open Road“, both Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck are referenced earlier in the film. After the opening nightmare scene when PJ calls Max on his phone, Max‘s phone is a Mickey Mouse phone, which is a classic real life piece of Mickey Mouse merchandise. Also, when Max comes home to find Goofy packing for the trip, he mentions Donald Duck as Goofy‘s supposed “Best buddy” he’s spending his vacation with. It’s also a reference to classic cartoons that starred Goofy and Donald Duck.
#8 Among the plushies at Goofy‘s job as a department store children’s photographer, you can see a plush of Simba from “The Lion King” and a plush of the titular protagonist of 1942s animated classic, “Bambi“. Goofy even gives the Bambi plush to the little girl.
#7 Ariel from Disney’s animated classic “The Little Mermaid“ makes two cameo appearances in the movie. First, she can be seen as a cardboard cut out behind PJ and Bobby Zimmeruski at the beginning of the film after they and Max get busted for hijacking that morning‘s pep rally. Second, she appears as a lamp at the Neptune Inn hotel where Max and Goofy stay.
#6 The film’s Director, Kevin Lima would later direct two other Disney movies. He directed their 1999 animated film, “Tarzan” a long side Chris Buck, The latter of whom would later direct Sony Pictures Animation’s 2007 film “Surf‘s Up” then return to Disney to direct their 2013 animated phenomenon, “Frozen” and it’s mediocre 2019 sequel. Back on to Kevin Lima, he would also direct Disney’s 2007 live action/animated fan favorite, “Enchanted”, in which he also voiced Pip the chipmunk when in New York City. Also, in this film, Kevin Lima did the voice of Roxanne‘s dad and Lester the possum.
#5 originally, Jeffrey Katzenberg wanted for Goofy not to sound like Goofy, and wanted him to sound more like Steve Martin, much to the chagrin of Disney’s animators and Goofy‘s voice actor, Bill Farmer (the latter of whom I had the pleasure of meeting at a supercon in 2014).
#4 There are two popular songs used in this movie, “High Hopes“ and “Staying Alive“ by The Bee Gees. The former can be heard on the radio cassette in Goofy‘s car when he and Max fight between that and rock music on the radio. The latter can be heard during the scene when Goofy and Max are trapped in their car by Bigfoot. After Goofy gets the alphabet soup and narrowly dodges Bigfoot, A pair of earphones fall on Bigfoot‘s head after he bumps into the car. The music playing on the earphones that he dances to is “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
#3. Powerline, the popstar idolized by Max and his peers, is voiced by Singer and songwriter, Tevin Cambell, Who is best known for music genres like R&B, pop, and soul.
#2 The keychain of Goofy’s car keys features the Disney D logo.
    * Honorable mention #1 for some reason, Pauly Shore, the voice of Bobby Zimmeruski in the film, was left uncredited. Similarly to Kathleen Turner being uncredited as the voice of Jessica rabbit in “Who framed Roger Rabbit”
    * Honorable mention #2 Aaron Lohr, the singing voice of Max in this film, is the husband of Idina Menzel, known for originally playing Elphaba In the Broadway musical hit “Wicked”, playing Nancy Tremaine in Disney’s 2007 live action/animated film “Enchanted “, and of course, the voice of Elsa in Disney’s 2013 animated sensation, “Frozen” (and it’s unimpressive 2019 sequel)
#1. When Goofy tries to play 20 questions with Max during the beginning of their road trip, one of the answers he gives is Walt Disney. Max also does the same thing later on in the film.
If there are any other fun facts you’d like to share, or ones that I’ve missed, please feel free to leave any below.

Of course, only someone like Jeffrey Katzenberg would want to replace a veteran voice actor with a more recognizable celebrity to make the film more “modern” for audiences. A similar case happened during an animated film that came out 10 years later after A Goofy Movie, “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” when Dreamworks wanted to replace Wallace’s then voice actor the late Peter Sallis with a more recognizable celebrity. Luckily, both Kevin Lima and Nick Park had the guts to stand up and reject the idea. I can’t imagine Goofy being voiced by somebody else other than Bill Farmer.

❤💖 To be honest, I truly loved and adored this movie as a kid in my nostaglic childhood memories. I remembered watching this movie in my VHS Tape 📽🎞🎬📼 player and still works to this day. I truly loved the relationship between Goofy and his son Max as they may have different goals and personalities and the writing does an amazing job establishing between the two in a big road trip. I did cried during emotional scenes like the soup scene and the waterfall climax scene.
Out of all the movies there, this is a father-son relationship animated movie done right! And one of the best animated films based on TV cartoon next to the first SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, the first two Rugrats movies, the Simpsons Movie and the 2017 My Little Pony the Movie. This movie does have a good lesson and theme regarding the relationship between the parents and their children where we shouldn't take our loved ones for granted because you'll never know when is their last day to live. You have to spend time with your parents to enjoyed your happy good moments. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤

This movie is definitely one of my favorite movies watching as a child. It has a great story between the rift relationship of a father and his son. The animation is surprisingly top notch for a movie based on a show. The characters are still the same as the were before with some new characters that are either one dimensional or great comedy reliefs. My favorite character is definitely Bobby, played by pauly shore. The songs are not only catchy but just as memorable as the ones from the Disney renaissance. This is definitely a 8/10 for me.
