    This is what I considered party music for back then. It got people hyped in the best way. Everyone danced to Kid N Play.

    1988 was THAT year in hip hop. So many bangers from many different types of artists. Some people clowned on Kid n Play back then as squeeky clean, but this is real hip hop. A dope beat, a DJ goin' off on the wheels and 2 mcs rippin' the mic. The dancing is the icing on the cake. Just a fun party vibe.

    It used to be a lot of different types of rap back in the 80's and early 90's. Kid N Play were what was more "fun or party" rap. It was some lyrical rappers back then too (Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, KRS 1, Rakim etc.) By the mid 90's it became not really cool anymore to be anything other than "Gangster" rap. So acts like Kid N Play, Will Smith, MC Hammer, Kwame pretty much faded away and everyone became Tupac/Biggie clones. 80's Hip Hop was fun and creative as hell because each rapper or group was unique.

    Kid N' Play, Salt N' Pepa and Martin Lawrence all worked together before fame.

      Facts a 9 to 5, along with Martin and Play actually being cousins.

      @@spitnificentThis not true. Martin worked across the street from them at a gas station when they worked there. Martin worked there after they left. Also Play and Martin aren’t related at all. Play is on TH-cam saying exactly when & how they met. A lot of people keep running with this story, but none is it true. They met Martin when he worked at the gas station.

    The 80s had lyricists. You may not be familiar but they were there. There were the fun/party groups like Kid n Play and there were the lyricists and both did their thing. But the dances were gonna be danced!

    This was their first single, they used to dance for salt n Pepa, cuz they was friends since high school and worked together...they got the movies cuz at one point they were one of the hottest acts in hip hop

      This was the breakout single for them but their first single as Kid N Play was Last Night. They started out in 85 (I think) by the name Fresh Force Crew... This was definitely their first major joint though.

      They had a couple of joints out before they hit with Last Night. Their prior group was The Fresh Force Crew and they dropped ROCK ME, ALL HAIL THE DRUM, and SHE’S A SKEEZER.

    Hey, for old school hip hop you should listen to “Self destruction “. You got all the 80s rappers in one video speaking knowledge. Get the official video not just the music.

    There were definitely lyricist in 80s rap and were major influences to the who came after them in the 90s, etc. Just as other people said though, in the 80s, there was just more of a variety of styles of rap out there at during that era.

    I disagree; MCs in the 80s and 90s were lyricists. You just need exposure to more artists from that time period. I could list them for days for here are a few: Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, KRS-1, the MCs in the groups De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, Kool Moe Dee…and there are many more

    Back then, rap wasn't really allowed on the radio. And music videos like this was only on here and there. So before MTVRaps and Rap City, there was "Rap Week"! LMAO Yep, on BET. There was two things you did mess with: the Cosby Show on Thursdays and Rap Week that only came on once a YEAR!!!😂😂😂😂😂

  • @Sunny-jz3dy
    @Sunny-jz3dy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Rap was more fun then...! NWA changed that with their music! Others started with gangsta rap & the fun rap....was gone! I like the 80's rappers & the dances that came out of it! There were some great some great lyricists in the 80's that paved the way. We just don't hear about them as much. If the timing had been different they woulda cleaned up! Lol

    yeah lil' bro but this is from the '80's not the '90's and believe u me....we rocked the dance floor...it was right after the 70's disco era, then the early 80's was nothing but break dancing...so the late '80's consisted of break dancing then we incorporated that into our dance moves then...check them out...with rappers like Kwame...and of course that damned "M.C. HAMMER, with his first cut called, "LET'S GET IT STARTED!"

  • @4u2cre8
    @4u2cre8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    There were lyrical rappers back then (Rakim being the most notable), just not Kid & Play. Their music was basically just for partying & dancing. Nothing too deep.

    • @kimberlypage5285
      @kimberlypage5285 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
