Experiencing this live was otherworldly. First you feel the impact of the powerful orchestra and then you get to Time, which is the last part of this video with Hans playing the piano, and by the end of it you could hear a pin drop in the audience. It is quite something to captivate your audience in such a way that literally no one in an audience of tens of thousands makes any sound as the song concludes. Everyone completely silent until the last note. Truly special.
I love that so much of Hans music is minimalistic. One simple line, add another simple line, add another line maybe as a counterpoint and by the time you add all these elements there are so many beautiful chords weaving in and out of each other. I think this is key to so much of the emotional power of Hans's music!
He knows how to build intensity through adding new layers rather than crowding the soundscape with new motifs. His scores for Inception and Interstellar are perfect examples of that.
I saw Hans Zimmer and friends in concert perform this during the same timeframe and it was absolutely amazing! Same setlist and all! It was a bucket list experience for sure 🖤 Can’t wait to see them again!
