Man what a mean looking weapon, definitely looks like it was designed to blow stuff up! I think the SLAM-ER will be a DCS pilot favorite! I can't wait to see people dropping SLAM-ER's onto taxiing players in multiplayer servers LOL!
I just saw the update and read the patch notes. I was like 'now I need to find a tutorial for SLAM-ER'. As so as I got TH-cam. Boom front page didn't even have to search it. Thanks for the video.
This is the laziest weapon I'll ever use in DCS. I tested today by taking off, full burners to 30k, and launching over the airbase I took off from at targets over 100nm away. They all impacted with precision while I was already back on the ground rearming. This was in a mp server. There's a lot of fancy options to set it up but the bottom line is this basically a jdam with wings and an engine. A simple hsi waypoint designate is all you need: fire and forget from an absurd range.
Cool, another vídeo from Mr Spudknoker.... Could you do an updated video of the Good after its updated?( With reference to IR Mav's), could Someone kindly point me to an "updated" video of this wonderful tool!!! Thank you!
It’s great that these have such long range. But, one of the biggest problems with the regular slam was that the video was not usable at farther ranges (40nm or so). At what range is the SLAM ER video usable? Is it the same?
From my testing it seems the video feed thru the datalink works at the maximum range. I was on a big orbit pattern around the maximum range and I was able to get the video feed just fine. However I will say it got fuzzy when the nose of my plane went more than 90° perpendicular to the missile and got unviewable if I kept going that way. I thought I always had to keep the nose pointed in the direction of the missile but I recently found you can swap the datalink antenna receiver from the front to the aft one so I will test that out whenever I get the chance next
Hello, I'm still very new to DCS and still trying to turn the steeep learning curve into manageable and/or usable 'second nature' types of information. I may be off, but I seem to remember somewhere around 26 nm from SLAM to DL pod. I rarely use a distance beyond 15 nm just to keep my displays in use for other tasks if i'm intending to fly that close to the SLAMs target(s). If intending to keep a distance, i'll set up a link for 20 nm. One thing is certain, however, and that is that the SLAM/DL pod link is not nearly as long a distance as the stand-off distance of the SLAM-ERs firing range.
So you didn't really cover anything that Wag's video didn't already. What about the Vel, Pos and Alt options for the Slam-Turn-Points (STP) or the F/C option? Doesn't really add much. Sorry.
Nice tutorials on the new weapon. I can reach out and touch those nasty Sams from a long way off with this weapon. How many of this cool weapons can the hornet carry?
4, one on each pylon and center Datalink pod, no fuel bags, but it will get shot down if there is any SA-15 or other short range truck down there. Tunguska chews up Mavericks, it would be easy game for it lol.
@@mayuthecop Hate those SA-15. Way too frustrating to get out of the way. It would be great to be able to program those Slammer to do a skim of the earth approach on the SA-15. Catch them late.
@@ernestwinslow7316 I think you can set their flight to Low, just like the Harpoon, not sure if they will skim, they might hit some terrain, also hard to control on the final attack. But even so, the SA-15 might still kill them since they are slow on the final attack.
Hey, @Spudknocker I’ve recently discovered your channel and have been hooked. I’ve gone back to older videos and started watching them! Today, I ordered a HOTAS to get into sims. Eventually, I would like to get into DCS so, which planes/maps/missions would you recommend to beginners? Thanks for any help and great work on the videos!
Hey, I'd suggest trying out one of the Flaming Cliffs 3 module aircraft first (or buying the bundle if you can front the extra cash). They're more simplified than the high fidelity ones like this FA/18 but as a result are much better at introducing you to the game and the various mechanics. Crucially you're also saving yourself a chunk of cash against the cost of a full module should you decide DCS isn't for you. FC3 also includes a pretty good tutorial set for the SU27 Flanker which will get you started. Map-wise I'm not 100%. I bought Syria which is a very nice map, but expensive and pretty poorly optimised right now. I'd stick to the included map and see how you get on.
If going the FC3 route then I would get the SU-27, or 33. The SU-25 is free to play and gives you a good ground pounder. Between a Flanker and a Frogfoot you can d ok the whole mission set. That being said I prefer the clickable cockpits. If I was starting out again I would go for the JF-17. I personally like the way its avionics are integrated, it's not really overly complex, and again you can cover the whole mission set. The Hornet is of course a great option as well.
I love your videos mate but it would have been good if you had covered some other options for the slam-er rather than doing the exact same thing as the official video, right down to the targets.
I am just trying to get the SLAM ER to hit a target that is standing still without using the video guide in system. I get it to launch and it just flys over the target. I read that I needed to set slam altitude to 0 above ground to get it to attack a tank standing still and I do not know how to do that ??? Also, I cannot get a MAP to show up on bottom screen..... thanks for any help
Dude can you help me with pre-plan mode? I am using the GPS weapons training for F8 18 but my AGM 84 missiles keep getting shut down my SA8, or they just fly over their target after I have already put the coordinates in. Any thoughts?

@@Spudknocker I was wondering if you can do a video on how to use the RADAR Map EXP1,2,3 to find and designate target.

Oh man it definitely does!
It definitely does.

As a guy who started with Falcon 3.0, F-117a and Gunship 2000, it blows my mind to have access to air launched CRUISE MISSLES.
nice video - recommendation for the next - when showing F10 map, always use labels, since weapon dots are super hard to spot without
Looks really good M8... Thanks for the info, will start to try this out... Thanks again... Great channel...

Be good to see other navigation options that aren’t waypoints for unplanned use

Only of course the reason ordinary JDAMs are still used IRL is that per Wikipedia their cost is $25k while SLAM-ER apparently costs $3 million a pop
I think I have more hours in Spudknocker videos than I do in the game.
All these excellent F/A-18C are great but I'll be REALLY excited when the F-16C gets the same level of attention as the hornet.

Do you know how far away you can get a good data link signal from? Is the SLAM-ER capable of hitting static targets without manual guidance?
It is more accurate than a JDAM in fire and forget. The datalink is strong enough for the missile max range
@@theperpetual8348 Sounds like quite a weapon, looking forward to putting it in to use shortly. Thanks for the info.
Hi and thanks, aaas always ! ;-) just to be clear, those n° 1,2, 4 & 5 waypoints had to be preplanned in the ME, right ?
you only need to click one of the WEP selections, they are not cumulative on the DL13.
Nice! How good/bad would this weapon be to employ on SEAD’s missions? Aaaaaaaaaas always! Thank you so much!
It will be pretty vulnerable to SA-15 systems unfortunately, especially cause its pretty slow!
