  • Ever wondered what it’s like to be backstage performing the Nutcracker in a World renowned Ballet Company? Come behind the scenes with me as I perform as an Aunt in Party Scene, Snowflake in snow scene, And Flower, Sister and Arabian Lady in the Land of Sweets. Every year this ballet company takes a flight to Orange County California to perform at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. I will show you guys a typical performance day which always starts with ballet class at barre. We have rehearsals during the day and perform at night. I answer questions that you asked on Instagram in a little Q&A and talk all about performing the Nutcracker as a kid and then as an adult.

    Everything I use to film:
While I am on the go, I film with my iPhone 11 Pro Max on the Dji Mobile Osmo 3. This allows me to get super smooth shots. I combine that with the either the Saramonic lavalier mic or Rhode mic and use a mount to attach it to the gimbal.
    Dji phone gimbal:

    Microphone mount for gimbal:
    amzn.to/3V74FAy
    Lavalier Mic:
    amzn.to/3VzFGpz
    Rhode Compact Mic:
    amzn.to/3gKmp5L
When I film at my apartment, I use my iPhone Pro Max as the main camera and my Canon 6D with the 24-105 f/4 lens for B-roll and photos. For the overhead shots, I use an overhead camera rig to mount my Canon 6D and connect a camera monitor so I can view the shot. And when my camera is set up on the ground, I use a quick release tripod. For lighting, I use the Neewer ring light and for audio, the Saramonic lavalier mic or Rhode mic (Linked Above).

    Tripod:
    amzn.to/3AM4OBa
    Ring Light:

To edit, I use DaVinci Resolve on my MSI GS 66 Stealth Gaming Computer. To store all of my footage, I use the SanDisk 1TB SSD Card.

Nutcracker (Casse Noisette) isn't really a part of Christmas tradition in France. So, I don't know really the music, or even the Ballet. But, you make me want to see more. So thank to you for that.
Before, I was totally insensitive to ballet dancing, even though I have a cousin in my family who almost became a professional dancer, and now teaches ballet. Even though, I have artistic work..., but I don't know, it didn't affect me.
Today (it's been a long time actually), after years of practicing Martial Arts (I see similarities between martial arts and ballet / dance), I see the bodily performance, I even admire it. And followed the beauty. I now see how beautiful classical dance is. And even more, I follow a ballet dancer on TH-cam !!!
So thank you again for making me appreciate the world of ballet even more.

That is Catherine Hurlin as Clara - she played Clara in the first performance of ABT's Nutracker and I was in the audience in New York - actually, it was in Brooklyn. I saw her as a student in the JKO School and she was obviously a standout and headed for the company. She's a Soloist with the ABT Company now.

The ABT Nutcracker is an entirely different Nutcracker from Balanchine's which I was used to and saw many times at NYC Ballet. I consider that the definitive Nutcracker because it is Balanchine. ABT wanted obviously their own production, and this is a reimagining of Nutcracker. Who was the choreographer?
