    The fact that you, being from the UK, can identify with a movie set in America written by Canadians tells me this movie captures something that's present in a lot of places.

    You comment on this being Jonah Hill's big break, but it's much more than that:
    Jonah Hill and Bill Hader were in this and Knocked up, which were both 2007. So the one-two punch of the two films put them both on the map.
    Michael Cera and Emma Stone had both previously had TV roles, but this the first film role for both of them.
    This was Christopher Mintz-Plasse's first professional acting job.
    This was the first film written by Seth Rogan, though he'd done some TV episodes previously.
    Depending on how optimistic you are, either it's a bunch of unknowns making a small film that happened to take off or the casting director and producers are absolute geniuses at identifying young talent.

  • @LordLOC

    The whole movie is so wild and crazy most of the time. Everyone acted their ass off in this (and Fogel aka Christopher Mintz Plaze sp...this was his first acting role straight up) and the comedy while brass and couldn't really be made these days without controversy is still funny as hell. All that being said, the ending is so sweet. I mean it's not like going to make you cry or anything but it's just, you know, sweet?

    • @MrRobarino
      @MrRobarino ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The movie was made in 2007, not the 1950's. Raunchy Comedies like that are still made to this day.

    • @LordLOC
      @LordLOC ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrRobarino Unless the studio putting a movie out now, having the F slur and other such language in it just brings controversy (which could be good for ticket sales I suppose also) and I didn't say it couldn't be made just it would have controversy if it did. There are still raunchy comedies made of course.

    First time that I saw Superbad my stomach hurt so bad from laughing so hard through the entire movie. The liquor store where McLovin got punched is my regular stop when I go to Grifith Park. Located @ the corner of Victory Blvd / Western Ave. Glendale, CA. near North Entrance to Griffith Park. Bonus: There's a drive-thru Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Shop a few blocks to the West.on Victory..

  • @christhornycroft3686

    Growing up in Vancouver, Canada like Seth Rogen, there are a lot of references here for people like me. Pretty much all the names of the teenage characters are actual people who Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the writers, went to school with. They did an interview for the local news in 2007 featuring the real "McLovin" (who was never called that), Steve Fogel. A lot of this is fictional, but there are some references that make me wonder. Even the street names, like Granville St, where there used to be a liquor store on the corner they mentioned. I guess you can't have this much reality as far as what high school is like (except for the stuff with the cops) without adding some actual reality. This is exactly how my friends and I used to talk in the late 90s and early 2000s. Seth and Evan actually went to West Point Grey Secondary School (High School) in Vancouver. I was born and grew up near Granville Street. Vancouver is known for being a hotbed for cannabis aficionados (and its LGBTQIA+ inclusivity), and Seth Rogen has been pretty open about his use of it. The old man in the bathrobe who throws the bat at Jonah Hill as Seth is actually Seth Rogen's dad in real life. The only really unrealistic thing about this besides the cops is the fact that those kids of girls would ever consider guys like Seth and Evan. That's just nerd fantasy. I've been there. Where I came from, if you weren't black or brown and buff, you had a less than zero chance with 90% of girls back in high school. We have a large Indian and East Asian community here, and they're the guys the girls here usually want. We looked up to those guys. I wanted to be Will Smith back then. Apparently that was a bad judgment call.
