One thing Bomani said really stuck with me. As a woman I'm tired of role models. I want women who are humans and characters. Everyone woman is either a role model, or at least a Mary Sue.
I understand what you mean, and I do think it's time for Hollywood to finally make a movie about Bass Reeves, the true lone ranger, but I also think that it is a responsibility that falls on the parents as well. So why can't it be both? Let kids fantasize and see superheroes with their Amazing Stories on screen that they can relate to, but also learn that real history like Reeves is more amazing than fiction. And that part falls on education.
