  • This is me wrestling with an antique Grundig reel player that is the most complicated contraption I ever worked on! This is Part 2 of the Grundig Majestic (SO 161Ua) console restoration project. I didn't manage to get it fully working in this video, but it's turning well now and got its belts replaced.

I have one of these, my grandfather bought it when he was overseas in the 1950's.

Hi. Hope this finds you well. You present these videos well
Just watched your video on the leak point one stereo preamp. I have the Varislope alt which I use with the stereo 20 amp like yours. Just wanted to ask you, I get this loud valve noise from the pre which disappears after tapping the front right top corner once or twice and will stay dead silent for a couple records and then return again. Moving any of the knobs makes no difference. What do you think it could be? The valves must be ok as it plays very nice when the hiss isn’t there.
    Thanks for listening.

It was very common to close the lid after you placed a record on the turn table..Now with that read switch install you would shut off the unit when the lid is closed, bad idea, that is why it was not there..

G'Day Mate! Thanks for the great video. I just got a antique Grundig Majestic 8098 From my Wife for my birthday. Where did you get the rubber belts from? It looks like I have a broken one, or more! Still investigating. Thanks.

I used McMaster.com for the belts and typically go for silicone rubber that's equal or slight tighter in size to the originals.

I had a stand alone version of that tape player. Never did get it to work but a buddy with the same unit I was stationed with (3rd Cav) wanted it so bad his teeth hurt so he paid me twice what I had into it for the unit.

How did you pull the chassis out of the cabinet? I have a KS550 and want to make sure I can pull it out without damaging anything. Any tips here would be welcomed!!!

Just do things carefully. It helps to have 2 people for the consoles where you have to be in the back to monitor how to wriggle the chassis out, but need to lift from the front.

Thanks. My motor does not work. I may be able to get the WD-40 into the oil hole. I have the manual if you want a copy emailed to you.

Good. Just remember, you don't need to remove the motor to oil it! It would be great to have a copy of the manual!! I'm at colin.joyemusic@gmail.com if you would be so kind to email me a copy!

It is my opinion that that tape deck was designed by the Krell.

Many people can repair and restore.
Very very little who can clean the devices and turn it into zero cleaning as well as the Chinese plates after being washed ! Because restoring a vintage set with cleaning
    is meaninglessness and useless !
