I'm considering getting The Lockit that came out recently. I like having a spare battery and a screen. However it's a bit more expensive... I guess if you can see the timecode details on your phone then you don't really need the screen?
How important is a spare battery when the batteries in the Tentacles or the USOs last you not just all day but all the next day too? (and with plenty left over too!) Plus even a quick brief top up charging during lunch break is sufficient to make it last another day, if you are truly negligent and let it go flat. Allowing batteries to be swapped in and out, introduces another point of failure, and leads to a bulkier design. (the last thing we want with a timecode box)
@@SoundSpeeding yes true but I do like the ability to easily replace the battery when the internal battery gets old and stops functioning properly. However it's hard to go past something like the Ultrasync Blue for $220 AUD at John Barrys right now! I like what Timecode Systems are doing. I've just been looking at their Pulse product as I would like an iPad slate.
@@kingkapowable be aware though that the Ultrasync Blue is not something you can normally use with a camera directly. But yes, I like what TCS Ltd is doing with their diverse ecosystem! As for battery life, both USOs and Tentacles last waaaaaaay longer than a production day, so even if after many many years of usage, they only last HALF their normal length, they still are lasting longer than a normal production day! By the time you *need* to replace them, am sure there will be better/cheaper/smaller products to consider instead! (also, Tentacle Ltd does supply a user replaceable battery kit for their Tentacles, should you want to swap yours out)
@@SoundSpeeding yes I just saw that you can't connect the Ultrasync Blue up to your camera with a cable! Not at all useful for my application. I've come around to the internal battery idea. Especially if the company offers a DIY replacement option. Ultrasync One is looking like a great option.
@@kingkapowable Yes the Ultrasync Blue is a very niche device, for specific purposes, such as getting TC onto an iPhone or a Zoom H3-VR. Was considering getting an Ultrasync Blue myself earlier this year.
Thanks for this video, the information is useful. The handheld video shake doesn’t add “interest”, it adds nausea. The world needs a lot more tripods, and a lot fewer operator hands shaking equipment constantly.
Well, having Andrew there at least was better than me trying to hold the camera itself while filming! I always greatly appreciate his help on any of my videos.
You mean the one that is "Australian"? haha Yeah Matt Price has an awesome channel! Been following him for a few years now, he puts out so much great content.
Indeed I'm usually not live when he is either, but got lucky the last couple of times! And I'm a NZer in NZ. Just it is kinda funny/"insulting" when a kiwi gets called an Ozzie, which Matt Price did a couple of videos ago and is what I was referring to.
Haha, I know right! Or perhaps just get a better cameras? That was shot on a cellphone (Samsung S7 I think? With audio going straight into it from an Aputure A.Lav). Now though I'm mostly filming on a Panasonic G6 (again with the Aputure A.Lav going into it), mostly because I've lost my S7, and my cellphones since then have been even worse! :-o My plan later on this year is to upgrade to a Panasonic G85, once they've dropped a bit more in price on eBay. They should be seeing a big drop in value soon! As the Panasonic G90 is rumored to be released very soon. And yeah, I do actually have a small lighting kit (2K Fresnel, plus more smaller Tungstens, a few small LED panels, PAR light, etc) but generally all my vlogs are quite spur of the moment and usually while on set. Thus I have only brought along my small mirrorless camera (and sometimes not even that! Lots of the vlogs are shot on my cellphone, or even my iPod Touch, like this video here).
@@SoundSpeeding Try getting this - kck.st/2HtVV4F that's all you need for those impulsive vlogs- I shoot with a GH5 and have a friend that has GH5 and a G85 which he purchased for a b-camera and dedicated gimbal cam - he loves it, I might also get one if the price drops too ... I've only just started on sound setups so researching TC, I have MixPre-6, Audio Technica 50x, Rode NTG-3b, Rycote NTG blimp and Rode Softie in a Orca 27 which I purchased after seeing your Orca bag video :-D. Milliboo 3m Pole (awesome for price) and 1x Rode Filmmakers kit ... Do you reccomend anything else to start with?
If Zaxcom had developed the Tentacle unit they would have patented it and no other small TC units would exist.
I don't know if you're joking or being serious! :-o
Sadly.....
