Hey man. If you have a 10/22 already, just get subsonic ammo. It's just as quiet but you'll be far more accurate. You'll bring more food home. But also great video and great idea. I haven't used a slingshot in ages. Been binge watching your videos all day.
Great video buddy. 👍 For anyone starting out with a slingshot. A cardboard box stuffed with blankets makes a good ammo trap. You can recycle your ammo and practice with the same ammo you hunt with. You also get instant feedback, you know right away that you were low and right for example. It really helped me develop consistency and hence accuracy. If you leave them mostly in their round state, a natural Y can be surprisingly small. I regularly shoot forks a bit fatter than a pencil. Note, that is definitely not wise with a board cut fork, a bit chunky is safer with those. I like to file the handle section flat on each side and glue on a couple pieces of cedar. It's very easy to shape into a custom, no slip grip and results in an overall shorter handle. You couldn't tell I have a slingshot in the breast pocket of my coat. A button magnetic and some steel berrings in my pocket and I'm good to go. 😉
@@Benjamin.stevens I'm currently shooting 3/8th steel with simple shot black in 0.7 mm thick. I've been considering going to smaller, 5/16. Grouse are also my local game bird. Lighter should give me better distance with lighter pull bands. Light bands are more accurate because you're not struggling to pull them. You do of course lose impact force, but birds don't need a very hard hit, particularly if you have the accuracy for a head shot. With the cardboard box, I started by drawing circles with a magic marker. Now I just make a hole and try to put the next one in that hole. Aim small, miss small. 😉
No my wife and I moved here in when we graduated college (2020). We wanted adventure, and to only eat what we killed. This was the best place for both.
I think I hurt one if I remember right. Once I learned a body shot wasn’t effective I switched to head shots, so it was either a miss or a kill. I agree it was a bummer to hurt the one. I haven’t done this again.
Nice. I'm subscribed to micheal too. Hopefully I get as good as him. My 1st grouse with slingshot, I missed 20 times before even hitting it 😂 and all those misses, it didn't even fly away.

.40 caliber lead balls are awesome grouse ammo just if anyone was wondering. Thats what i used in idaho.

Crazy, I had many birds sit for 2 or 3 shots but that’s about all.
