This comes from the future when I am watching this, but if your P220 has the original grips, take them off and you will find the manufactured date there. I have one and that is where the date is!

My Sig-220 is stamped "JG" on the bottom with the letter N above it. Which means that it was made in 1986. It also has some kind of design that I can't make out, and what appears to be a Centipede, or something like it on top. I have the zipper style mags along with a zig-zag one.

I traded a glock 43 with a shitty laser, 3 mags, handleit grips and some truglo tritium sights for a 1986 west german with hogue grips and both original zipper mags and case and he was an old veteran and the original owner and got a case though it was a sig p250 case sadly as he couldnt find it. But all that to say, I made out like a bandit as I had traded a macbook pro I had upgraded/refurbished I had $170.00 invested in for the Glock 43 so I got this thing for $170 bucks! I love this thing and will probably never get rid of it. I just wish it had the original checkered grips though am thinking of putting some Hogue G10 european checkered grips on it if Sig decides to stop bustin heads and charging $93 fuckin dollars for some pieces of plastic....But I really appreciate you taking the time to make this simple video explaining some great information on an amazing piece of german machinery. Take care

I just picked up one of those today for a great price. It's in great shape with the box and manual.

I also have a 94 model that came with the dovetail mags. In 93 or 94 the p220 was upgraded to handle plus p ammo. The hammer is slightly more rounded and the recoil springs have a splash of green paint on them.

Thank You So Much, since viewing your video picked up a fantastic pre owned Police trade in. Rolled slide, tiny bit of holster wear, perfect internals. Even came with the original dovetail mags. My new favorite 45. Really enjoy your videos with some fine rye...350!!@@!!

That one is a nice example. I think I like the old spur hammer better as the DA pull from 1/2 cock is shorter than the later ones and these are excellent CCW's IMO. They are also lighter and don't have the bulky rail. I prefer the new ones for the nightstand where I can mount a light. PS: As a safety note, the spur hammer P220's don't have the later rebounding hammer so keep make sure to always use the decocker. It's been reported that a LEO was killed by dropping an older P220 that was manually decocked and resting on the firing pin. The rebounding hammer was a safeguard against this.

I've owned my p220 for 25 years and always wondered what the letters meant. my letters are JK so 1989. above the letters are an N.. it also has the zipper style design. and also on top of the magazine is a step like design that feeds the bullets, the newer feeders are straight. how do I get more clips like the original or new that will work on this gun. thank you for your video....jim from pa.

The N means that special high pressure bullets were used in it and it was verified as working with those high pressure rounds and assembled

I really enjoyed your video, nice work. I also own a P220 marked KA under the barrel. I believe I'm the second owner, the first being a Kentucky Peace Officer. I have owned the gun since about 1999. Mine came in the factory box, with the manuals, the factory 3 shot target and two original magazines. I checked mine and the mags I have are "zipper" joint. The gun is still in excellent shooting condition with what I think is appropriate amount of finish wear for a 27 year old gun that has been used, but not abused. Most importantly the gun is a joy to shoot! The combination of: that huge slow cartridge; a light, crisp trigger; and that heavy, but well-balanced frame fits perfectly in my hand; makes it my favorite handgun to shoot. And shoot it I can. I'm not an accomplished marksman, but I can shoot accurately and consistently wth this gun at a significantly greater distance than with other handguns.
I just remembered that I had a Glock 21 45 ACP with high-capacity 13 Rd magazines during the assault weapons ban. That made it crazy expensive. I had lusted over that Glock and saved for six months, I was so excited I went into the gun store, showed the owner the Glock I wanted and gave him and old .22 LR 4 barrel derringer and about 500 cash, which was a,lot of money to a 21 year old college student. Then I found out I had to wait 10 days because the was the law at the time while they checked my background. Finally got the Glock home into the range with several boxes of ammo. It was a big gun, thick, chunky, uncomfortable grip. I was trying to become a Glock fanboy and wanted to love that Glock so bad! My hand never felt comfortable on the 21 when operating a controls. If I tried to reach my thumb over to use the slide release one-handed I found my Booger Hook would be inside the trigger guard looking for purchase so that I can get that thum stretched over and get that slide released

Long story short, I sold the Glock to fund the purchase of the P220.. One of my best decisions ever. Keep making cool videos about old guns and I'll keep watching them. Thanks again Jim

I also own a old west Germany, and in this regard I wanted to ask you one thing and that is that its shippers from 7 shots have a very hard spring so that sometimes can dificult to download them manually.

Nice history on the German unification process.
We know that KA stands for Kick Ass though... you're not fooling us! ;)
I have a German made P220 and it doesn't have proof marks like yours, I had to trace it back to 1996 by the serial number. Love this gun, its sporting a lot of holster wear which I think looks great but I'm thinking of sending it to Sig for a refurbish. I'm the third owner and the first owner sent it to Sig for the SRT trigger, performance springs, and Sig Night Sights. The sights are beginning to fade compared to some of my newer guns and on a deep cleaning I noticed some dirt and rust that I addressed. I think the ole guy could benefit from some of the newer treatments.
and... you have me thinking about some Hogue G 10 grips.

    • @MrHolster
      @MrHolster  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes this is one gun I really wanted back in the day but never felt I could justify the money at the time so I was pretty happy to find her. Night sights would be nice but right now I will have to be happy with the grips. Thanks for watchin Pinkie!

My understanding is if your Sig doesn’t have proof stampings it’s not a German made gun! Or maybe it means not a W German made gun.

East Germany was considered to have some of the best products the Warsaw Pact had to offer (and that was abysmal to compared to what West Germany produced). Compare Mercedes to the Trabant and that will tell it all! :)

I got my dad's P220, but the damn thing has a magazine release on the bottom, which means that none of the extended magazines would work! Or maybe they will if I cupped my hand under the magazine and held it in place. Don't want to spend $38 to find out. I despise the .45 caliber to begin with. I'd prefer my S&W 645. It's a better gun.
