Thank you for the suggestion! Using powdered 1085 is definitely a great idea for reducing voids and improving the overall quality. I appreciate your feedback and will consider it for future projects. Thanks for watching! 😊🔨🔪
I really like this guy. No talking, just doing. The knife is not an item of beauty but it is a beautifully hand crafted by someone who does this all the time. This knife is super strong and is made for duty, not beauty and not to be hung on a wall. You sir are the best and I congradulate you on the knife and the other knives I have seen youj make. Your video is truly sinplistic and done in a masterful way. Thank you for what you make. I'd buy a knife anytime from you.

I noticed this as well. He should have filled the holes in the plates with powdered metal, and welded on the solid plates as he filled each ring. Then, when he drew out his billet, he should have oriented these holes so the they would appear on each side of the knife (instead of the way he did, which was vertically from blade to spine). Is it was, the holes were simply sealed shut when the billet was formed, so there was nothing there to create any sort of contrast. He may as well have used solid pieces. The only contrast was from the thinner plates he used, and with nothing but a straight forging and a single set of folds, this design was never going to be anything more then a small handful of of thin slightly wavy stripes.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and thoughtful advice! 😊 You’re absolutely right about the impact of pushing too hard on the angle grinder-it does wear down the cutting disc much faster. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and the results of those tests. In some cases, the sparks might just be from the type of steel, but I’ll definitely pay more attention to my technique to ensure I’m not overloading the disc unnecessarily. Your suggestion to test both methods is a great idea-I’ll give it a try and see the difference for myself. No offense taken at all! I truly value input like this-it helps me improve my work and processes. Thanks again for taking the time to share this! 🔨😊✨

Other knife makers: "...and now we need to fill the gaps with steel powder to remove the air from the billet and prevent cracks while forge-welding..." This guy: casually forge-welds parts of an 1980s era meat ginder face/shield/sieve/screen (whatever it's named) with holes in it, not caring about any leftover air inside... and succeeds... At this point you're just putting others to shame. 😂
Gonna be a Master with 1 eye!
Someone needs to give him some safety glasses! sparks everywhere .... Nice end result.
