    I was at the game when Lou stole 103. At that time he lived in Olivette behind Stacy Park. We used to sometimes see his son who we called Little Lou. He was tremendously exciting to watch and a great asset to the game. Sad to see the irony in what happened with his leg later on, but he'll never be forgotten by me, and I'm now 60.

      Rickles was only funny 20 percent of the time but he had that charm that made you respect him, somehow, not even sure why except that you could read between the lines and recognize he always meant well, and that's what endeared him to people. His delivery was often awkward and jokes fell flat but he kept at it with a good heart.

    • @Pitt-ny8cj
      @Pitt-ny8cj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's not accurate they just didn't lose the first 10 years...that was in the era of wiping. Carson actually was one of the first to realize their would be a future value of saving tapes and he did save alot on his own dime. If it hadn't been for that even more if the Tonight Show would have been lost. Networks didn't start realizing until the mid to late 70's that wiping was a horrible mistake

    ❤️ Those were the days when a Nite Show Host Didn't spend his entire Monologue on Politics, if, at All. He didn't Need to. He also knew that we, his Viewers, were most likely in bed and just wanted to Relax and be entertained before shutting off the lights. And he ptobably figured we Didn''t Need or want, Anymore News from the Day, only to cause us Additional Stress! There was also No P.C. back then, nor did Anyone get Blackballed or lose their jobs the following day!
    We'll Never see those days again and so I'm Grateful that I saw it Then..
    They're All gone now. Even so.. I'd rather watch Johnny's old Re-runs every nite, knowing they're All gone, than to watch those Other so-called Late nite Shows having D Listers. Funny, but to This day I can almost Bet that Johnny's nightly Re-Runs, and His Guests that are Gone now too, Still 'Out- Rate' All of the Other shows On today,, as well as Their Guests . And the Reason is Simple.. back then the Actors and Actresses were STARS, the Real Deeal. So thank you Johnny, Don, and to one Great Actor/Actress, and Comedian after another..

    You would never know that Don began his career as a serious actor, much like Leslie Nielsen. Both went into comedy with two completely different styles. Nobody realizes how talented Nielsen had to be to get laughs and never tell a joke. Today, Don Rickles would be driven out of show business, triggering all the PC Police constantly. What they wouldn't know is, he loved everyone and would give the shirt off his back to you no matter if you were white, black, Latino, Asian, Jewish, Christian, Buddist, etc..When he kissed Lou Brock, it wasn't just an act, he would do the same thing privately.
