When you listen to a beat and you get that feel from it, stop there and try to identify the overall subject of what you feel from it. Take that subject and stay on point instead of jumping from one subject to the next just so you can rhyme. I hate how 99.9% of rappers now days do that! The best songs come from telling a story or conveying and emotion, not just from rhyming words.
It may take a while to write, sometimes even weeks. Confidence is great but don't be overly confident and think that whatever you spit of the top of your head is fire but instead record what you spit off the top of your head, write it down, and dissect it. It is better to use a pencil and paper to make it easier to rearrange bars and to erase or change words as needed. Identify and separate each bar and figure out the best key words from each bar and set of 4 bars that you want to rhyme.
Remember to stay on topic, don't stray. Write those key words you want to rhyme on a separate sheet of paper and start thinking of other words that rhyme with them, use a dictionary if you need to. You can actually buy dictionaries of rhyming words that have lists individual words that rhyme, syllables that rhyme, groups of words that mean the same thing or pertain to each other and go together. They are really handy!
You may have to rearrange bars to make the story sound right. You may have to add or erase words to make the bars fit and sound right with the beat you go with.
Mostly it's just about taking your time and staying on point. Believing in your skills but not being arrogant. Criticize your own work but don't over criticize. Sometimes you may need to step back from it for a minute because it crowds your head and becomes jumbled. A voice recorder is also handy to help you remember bars you thought of on the fly. Bars tend to come to me when I am driving or busy and can't write them down so the voice recorder is invaluable! It's also very helpful to make recordings of what you have as you go, listen to it over and over so you can hear what fits and what doesn't.
Anyway, I hope this helps. I'm not much of a teacher but really happy to help in any way I can. I'm really getting too old to do anything myself but would love to see the younger generations get back to making real rap instead of the mostly garbage that you here now days.
