Great advice. Reminds me of Julia Cameron. I think it boils down to over coming the tendency to please other people. Audiences also like a mentor to be confident, to show that they can be too. Like a good mother would to nurture a child.
This such a relevant interview for me to hear as a writer and artist. Thanks Joanna for providing such a wide range of writing/creative information for the rest of us!
I've recently started drawing and I like comics so I'd like to work on creating stories that way as well as writing short stories and novels. Thank you both for a really interesting and insightful discussion!
I have a BA(HONS) in Art, and everyone I know says to get a 'real Job' as there is no money in it. I've also written 25 novels. 😎 One day I will make it.
Love this video. Self-doubt can be crippling sometimes. I have a traditional book deal. My manuscript is due next week. When I first got my deal I was over the moon, then doubt crept in and I wondered why they had accepted my proposal. Even now I'm scared to hand it in. What if they hate it? I don't think the feeling will ever go away, but it won't stop me. I started a TH-cam channel about writing and I am worried about it failing and getting criticism. However despite all that I still create because I need to!
all the best with the manuscript - that self-doubt will never go away - but definitely hand it in :) you will get editorial feedback with lots of changes but that's just part of the process!
ah yes, the fear that it is not perfect... thanks, for the encouraging words and examples!
I'm 11 and I'm writing a book. Is that a good thing?
