- The story of the ghosts of Edinburgh Castle and the 2001 study into the paranormal activity there.
Follow my adventures as I travel through the landscapes and history of Scotland. I make quick, quirky and (hopefully) funny content about Scotland's past, people and scenery.
I look for the hidden stories, forgotten people and beautiful scenery of Scotland and try to find the funny in the darkness, obscurity and occasional absurdity of our history.

Welcome back Robert! Missed you!
always enjoy your style of presenting interesting parts of Scotland's history
Thanks Robert.... I love your history lessons and your cheeky little grins.. But mostly how much you seem to enjoy it all. 😉
Haha. I do indeed 🙂
Nice! This was a lot of fun! Keep up the great work!
Great Video Robert. Definitely dont fancy being there in the dark 👻💩💩💩🩲🤣
Haha. No!
Thankyou ✌️
A Halloween 🎃 👻story ❤it Scotland Unplugged, 👍😎🏴/🇺🇸 !
It's amazing what can be heard when recording (with a simple cassette player) the "noise" in an empty and silent room. I was in a repurposed primary school - turned into an office building - and recorded the sound of a piano in what used to be the assembly hall. It was quite eerie, since the hall had been turned into a sectioned storage room.
😅😳
126 views and less than 70 likes come on people every like really helps Robert out ❤❤
Another great story thank you Robert.
Thank you! 🙂
Great video Robert!
Thank you! 🙂
Missed seeing you lately!
I believe they are real. Experiences from my childhood home. Built in 1925. The Pautlers had a son sent home from the war gravely injured and passed away in what was my bedroom. I saw him many times before I ever knew anyone had died in the house. Mrs Pautler confirmed his passing and I described him to a T. She then showed me his picture. I had full body shivers. He never did anything but stand at the window and look my way occasionally.
😳
Edinburgh looks like a beautiful place. You are very blessed to live in such a beautiful history rich area.🥰
I am indeed 🙂
Love Scotland
My daughter was married at the Jacob Henry mansion in Joliet Illinois. The part of the mansion where the bride prepares for the wedding brings chills, for no physical reason. The feeling is so strong that wedding attendees venture up stairs, and came back to the wedding with wide eyes.
I read your comment as “my daughter was murdered,” I had to do a double take because oh my heck! Glad your daughter is ok and now I obviously need to have my brain rebooted.

This may be my favorite story. Thanks, Robert!
Thank you! 🙂
Thanks Robert for some timely ghost stories and the views of the castle. I enjoyed it very much.
Fantastic again mate. Ye canny beat a good old fashioned ghost story.
Cheers sir!
Another excellent presentation (especially for "spooky season")! Thank you!
Thank you! 🙂
Yes, the vaults are so creepy! And fascinating. I adored Edinburgh, and I love your videos!
If I have to live in a city, it’s not half bad 🙂
Cold and snowy here, now I can binge watch your videos
This is bonkers, and I might have mentioned it on this channel before but I think I know part of the reason why Scotland is so rich in paranormal history.
I took some (ahem) magic pizza toppings....
(I'm from California btw, so not a Scot other than distant ancestors) I went to a "past life" (whatever that means), in 18th century Scotland. I was nobody, and my family all died, so nothing about that would interest anyone outside of myself. As I was living out this past life, i saw an ancient order of magicians, centuries before me in the Northern part of the country. They predated druids and I got the impression it's a now extinct practice or religion. I saw them taking bones from their dead and scratching markings into them, like spells. In order to see the markings better, they took the ashes from their fire and rubbed the bones, so the markings almost looked like pencil to me. Then they placed them back in the ground. I was made to understand that what they were doing was making the land sacred.
One of the things I, as the Scottish woman, told myself was (I'm going to try to write her accent, so to all the Scots reading this, I'm sorry for my poor dictation of the accent) "They shot us and hanged us. They burned us and buried us in the ground. They beat us and cut us up into pieces, but they didna know, you canna kill a Scot." I still feel that line so deeply it makes me tear up.
I struggle with believing in anything, but after that experience, I thought it would be wise to be open to the possibilities that there is more to this life than living and dying.
Editd to add: I'm not saying any of this is a literal truth, just an interesting possibility.
Interesting! 🙂
It's is certainly interesting. Who knows what might be real that we just don't understand yet. Humans only use part of their brain.
Fun info!! I’m sorry the $1K+ who have viewed this haven’t all left a thumbs up!!!
Not a ghost believer myself. The castles of Scotland are fabulous. Thank you for this history. ❤❤❤ You tell it so well😊
My favourite videos the spooky ones! The ultimate season of the Witch and thats me 😁🧙🏻♀️ As always a brilliant video Robert. Hope your time out was for good things, welcome back ❤
Haha. Me too!
Hi Robert, very interesting story to hear. I believe spirits are around for those who believe in them.
Take care and stay safe till next time.
❤
For those of us who have had these experiences.. I know what I think!!
I'm not certain whether ghosts are real, or not, but I prefer to believe that they are. Perfect way to kick off "spooky season"! As always, very entertaining, sir!
Very interesting, to say the least! But, I'll bet that was a beautiful castle in it's day. I was excited to see you back 😊 Looking forward to more, maybe more haunted castles!?! ❤
Haha. You never know! 🙂
@@scotlandunplugged 😊
Love learning more about your country. From an Aussie Herd member.😄
Thank you! 🙂
Intriguing video Robert. I am positive that I would not be in the line to volunteer
Me neither 😅
Thanks for the ghostly options! I’m surprised there aren’t more. I believe this is the first time I heard of leaves falling off the front of a house! Happy Fall!
Hey Robert! Good to see you in a new video story! Did you feel anything creepy while you were there? I had a strange experience once touring a very old courthouse where a gun fight had happened in the 1800s. Bullet holes in the wall! My sister and i really felt an overwheming sense of evil in that place. Needless to say, we had to leave!
I was there in March! It was rainy and windy, but beautiful!
You had me until the dung barrel. Yuck ! Thanks for the story, Robert. I'm with the spooks walking among us, by the way. Lol ! 🙂♥️
😂
Your brother sent me 🐄🐮LOVE your content!
BOO!
Will be back in Your Old Haunts come the 7th. Counting the minutes.
😂
Either way I wouldn't want to be there alone on a moonless night!!! K. Just ordered the book, Robert! Well done!❤
Thank you! Hope you enjoy the book. Feels strange it’s all done 🙂
Great! Thank you!
Greetings from a spooky 👻 364 years old German house
Awesome!🎉 Maybe you could take an underground tour of Mary Kings Close (please forgive any spelling errors 😮) I understand it was walled off due to plague and New Edinburgh was built on top? 👻
It’s definitely on my list 🙂
I'm going to Saratoga battlefield on the anniversary of the battle to see if they know where Simon Fraser is buried.. it's somewhat of a mystery. They say a gray lady in Scotland (how many do you have?) said she would see him again at Ticonderoga, when his time was up.😁 The Black Watch was known in America too. Soldiers were a major export from Scotland along with woolens and whiskey.😊 A lot of them stayed on to haunt us here, from the Carolinas to Canada. 👻
I have concluded: the spooks walk among us! 😁
Seems fair 🙂
Have you done Mary Kings Close? Spooky down there!
Not yet but I’ve been in touch (with the museum… not the spooks) 🙂
@@scotlandunplugged There is(was) a bit where folk left toys and things for the ghost of a wee girl.
Edinburgh Castle is haunted? What a wonderful story, Robert. Was 2001 that last time anyone looked into the hauntings?
As far as I know that was the last big study. 🙂
Love the story. Places in the US have ghost stories. Alcatraz. I am sure is haunted. When I visited, I got the willies the whole time I was there
I can imagine 😅
@@kayhansen1674 Or Eastern State Pen, in Philadelphia! Got the same feeling there!
Good video.....just maybe the spooks are real......😃
I once saw a documentary that explained how the earth's rotation causes vibration which in essence is an energy field surrounding us. It was claimed that the human body is attuned to this vibration, though we do not consciously feel it. In some places on earth it is felt stronger than others, especially where there is water or caves. Perhaps the rock the castle sits on does something that affects people negatively in some way.
Or, even though nobody knew of the hauntings, castles being haunted is very much ingrained in any person these days, so it might not matter people didn't know the specific stories. Imagination can play tricks on the mind. And, who knows, no one can definitely claim there aren't things in this world that we still can't explain. We only used a small part of our brain.
Residual energy of past people's always remains. Whether people believe in ghosts or not. Dover Castle is riddled with ghosts! Check it out! 👍🙋🙏🏴🇮🇪
I always think it’s a bit like a vcr. We couldn’t have understood how that worked a hundred years ago. 🙂
@@scotlandunpluggedwell put. Who knows what phenomena are out there that we simply don't understand yet. Don't human only use a small part of their brain capacity after all
I don't know about the castle... I'll just have to go and see for myself if it's haunted.😁🎃
I think I would go with a big string man to protect me 😱
