Hey everyone...we had to re-upload this because we made a mistake in the credits. Even if you already watched it, please play it again to help our stats so we don't get killed by the algorithm!!! 🙂
Absolutely fascinating rock structure and coloration compared to so many other caves! Considering the rainy season flow, I'm also surprised by such angular fascia. I'd love to hear more about the geology!
You're right, it's a much darker rock than some of the Mexico/Bahamas caves he's dived. The dark rock really saps your lighting, and gives a different feeling to the place. Although the team have amazing video lights to combat the lightîng issues haha
You would expect to see the "scalloping" in the rock that we saw in Norway in such a high flow cave, so I'm not sure why we didn't. The more I cave dive, the more I wish I took a geology class in college. I'm kind of fascinated with rocks!
@@BlueWorldTV The algorithm was kind to you today, it fed me the Norway video just a couple hours ago and I got the lesson I was seeking! Also the more geologists I meet the more I wish I went into geology! Not only are rocks way more deep and intriguing than I ever imagined when I was younger, I hear geologists are a fun and unique crowd to hang around with!
I`ve been at Portugal last july, roads are really amazing with no traffic. I loved it! There are a lot of incredible dive places, like uboat 1277, Berlengas island or the shipwrecks of Revival Project, in Algarve. Wish a could come back! BUT I NEVER HEARD ABOUT CAVE DIVING. So one more time, thank you for an amazing video!
3:55 - I know the feeling for me that is every summer in Florida, trying to avoid heat stroke while putting on the drysuit and then just relaxing in the water to cool down.
@@BlueWorldTV I'm the opposite, I hide in the heated bathrooms to put my suit on in the winter. I can deal with the heat, but cold kills me to the bone.
I'd die without knowing we actually have a cave diving culture and caves like this specially an hour away from home lol. Ocean diving yeah but this didn't have a clue
I know, we went on a cave diving frenzy!! I got infatuated with caves, and then we got all these great invitations from around the world. You are in luck, we are dialing back the cave diving for a while. Next month, an animal episode!
First off, absolutely love your guys videos! I’m a big time motorcyclist, it’s my main way of getting around! So what a blast to see diving a riding in the same video! Second I looked through the whole comment section, maybe I missed it, but is that two small black tanks on Anton’s back? What’s up with that? What size are those? So many questions about that set up. Maybe a blue world plus clip on it? Keep up the great work guys!
That particular bike I found a little tall for my short legs so it was a little unnerving to ride. Very big bike compared to what I'm used to (sport bikes and naked bikes, not touring bikes).
I love your videos and content! Cinematography is stellar - I still would never go diving because… nope nope nopity nyyyope. But through your videos I appreciate your efforts and the scenery is incredible!
@@BlueWorldTV Haha! Oh definitely agree with you there! But in all seriousness, your videos allow me to see what I would never get to see in person, so thank you!
We had a school trip to that factory when I was younger. I never knew about the cave, though we visited a nearby dry cave. That manufacturer sells colored toilet paper.
I am blessed with ears that equalize easily. Some people are not. If you have a very hard time equalizing, scuba diving might not be your sport, unfortunately.
So I actually have two DUI suits. I have the CF200 crushed neoprene which I generally wear diving in New England because it's really tough. I also have a TLS (trilaminate) which I bought primarily for travel because it's light and dries fast. A trilaminate is never as warm as a neoprene suit, so you need thicker undergarments in cold water. So if you are primarily going to fly to places with your drysuit, I would probably go with trilaminate but if you are diving it locally, a crush neoprene is tougher and warmer. As for the boots, I tried rock boots and didn't like them. It's a clever solution to a non-existent problem. I like regular attached drysuit boots.
hi thanks for the video blueworld. i was asking myself, how can you handle the situation when ears really cant pass when doing yoyo in the cave. your at return stage and you cant go doWn to go to the entry. thats pretty difficult situation, did you experience something simillar?
Beautiful place! I noticed that you have an extra weight on your ali80 cylinders. How big is it? Do you have to adjust the cylinder on the sliding d-ring with that? Or the trim just stays the same all along the dive as it is usual with ali30s?
I put 1 kg (~2.2 pounds) on each tank because I had never dove with aluminum sidemount tanks and a drysuit. Turned out to be a bad idea for multiple reasons, but at least they didn't get floaty at the end of the dive. I don't recommend doing it. It's a line hazard and the trim on the tanks was too heavy at the beginning. At the end of the dive, the trim on the tanks was OK though.
We mentioned it in the episode. Because wire is the only thing that can withstand the strong current that happens in the rainy season. Regular cave line is not strong enough--the water flow tears it out.
Big question : since you're diving rebreathers and dry suits, you do dives that extend the 2h limit. How do you cope with peeing ? Are you using a pee valve or an adult's diaper ?
@@BlueWorldTV I bet ! I can barely hold it for an hour 😩 Give us a scuba 101 on blueworld plus if you ever come by using one 😁 would be funny to see how todd avoids the awkwardness of talking about it 😆
As long as the neck seal is nice and straight so it doesn't leak, the drysuit keeps you 100% dry. The neck seal can be a little tricky sometimes. If it's not perfect, sometimes you get a little leak and some drips come in. Usually not too much water.
So was it an issue of negotiating that restriction with the KISS that you have, or are you already shelving the rebreathers? Just curious, the video is outstanding, I'm just not a fan of all the air bubbles or their less than desirable effect on the water clarity. 😕
This video was shot before we had the rebreathers, and released after. Don't worry, we have a LOT of new videos with the rebreathers coming out. We just shot 7 new rebreather episodes in Mexico.
Love the video and the cave but i have questions: 1) why was there no continuous guideline to the surface? 2) what are those 2 black tanks sticking out of Anton’s wing? 3) is tank trim a thing of the past for Anton? 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for your questions. 1. For safety reason for swimmers in the pool. They do not see the line, they do not recognize where the entrance to the cave is 2. I use one 2L tank to inflate my dry suit, another 2L tank is for inflating my bcd and for my rebreather when I need to change Trimix to the Air. 3. For some reason, I did not care about the position of my tanks for a short period of our dive time doing more priority things. You can see the perfect position of my tanks before and after that time.
@@CaveDivingPortugal thank you for your response!! Please, don't be offended by my comments.... we all have our tanks out of trim at points. I'm also guilty of that. I'm a multi-stage cave diver and am not used to diving without a guideline to the surface. I understand the permanent line should not be visible to swimmers but I've never dove without laying line from open water to the main line. I'd love to go to Portugal and dive with you guys! Grande abraço!
To add one more answer...the guideline starts not far past the entrance, so it gets you well into the cavern zone on the way out. Not 100% "by the book" but it keeps the riff raff out. LOL.
@@CaveDivingPortugalI had the same questions regarding the 2 2L tanks, appreciate the response. Do you have an overview of your gear setup anywhere? Very unique, I think we could all learn a few things on how you are setup w/ those tanks and your batteries. Thanks for taking the @BlueWorldTV crew out!
For Todd and I personally, we were both inexperienced with drysuit diving using aluminum sidemount tanks (we had always used steel which is heavier), and I thought I should put a little weight on the tanks. That turned out to be a terrible idea I would never do again for multiple reasons.
@@BlueWorldTV I would suggest buying some sumpUK sliding D-Rings with low profile d-rings. They are really good on the xdeep webbing and I use them with my sidewinder as well. Using weights on tanks is not a good fix. Steels and AL80s are way different when it comes to trimming out while diving.
We actually filmed this episode about a year ago--before we had rebreathers. Sometimes we shoot a bunch of episodes at the same time and we space out releasing them so we don't have two similar episodes released close to each other. This episode was actually shot the day before we filmed the one in Alviela Cave which was released months ago.
It's interesting...we didn't mention it in the video because it would take too long. For the longest time, the only entrance to the cave was in the air chamber that we popped up into (that's why you can see a ladder in there). You had to climb up the cliff with gear and then through a crack and lower it to the water. But they felt the spring coming out of the rocks in the bottom of the pond and opened that opening up enough to get divers through, so they could swim in from the pond (much easier). That tiny entrance we swim through is technically man-made.
@@BlueWorldTV Good time! In more detail, I live on the Crimean Peninsula, we have about 1,500 registered caves, a small part of which have siphons, or are source caves. The average annual water temperature in our caves is +8.8 degrees Celsius, most of our caves have poor visibility and low-flow, not wide passages with fairly thick clay deposits in the bottom. Typically, most siphons are accessible using caving equipment and ropes. We dive using a sidemount suspension and cylinders with a volume of 7 liters 300 bar. Due to rather complex logistics, larger volume cylinders are not used as a rule. Some of my friends started using sidemount rebreathers, I use open circuit. We plan the next training exit in 10 days, to the Yeni-sala 3 cave, which has several siphons with a maximum depth of 47 meters, the last one has not yet been passed.
