I am so pleased that you have said Michael Smith his playing his best for the club since he arrived. I agree 100%. So few Chempionship sides, now, expect a big no.9. His hold up and lay off play is so much more refined, this season. If Rohl planted the seed in his head for him to prove himself, when we had signed Ugbo, then that is a master stroke. How many fans would select Ugbo in front of Smith, this season?
You’re right about the atmosphere at home, I’ve wondered why it’s so sterile lately, I personally think that we are so desperate to stay in the championship, everyone can’t relax. Another brilliant review pal. Keep it coming.
Another 1230 kick off coming up against stoke who are about and interesting as watching paint dry as a club ...if we play cat and mouse tactics I expect a stoke snatch and grab or at very best a draw 😴
It's just like chatting to you when dropping off the 20 boxes for dentistry! Happy days. Not sure about the pirate headgear tbh. You need some tassles on the back if you're going for the Ebenezer look, or pull it up halfway up from the bottom for a Dick Turpin vibe 😂
Enjoyable game and vid. Thank you. I’d have given MoM to Smithy but you know it’s a good performance when there’s lots of candidates, and yesterday Baz, Smith, Charles and Dish all worthy candidates.
Maybe do a video on loss off Hillsborough Atmosphere. Atmosphere at home not same as away is because of the seats in the Kop. Only safe standing might bring a bit back. People have scattered. Would be awesome if they did bring safe standing in! As one of Atkinsons Barmy Army, there is no comparison now to those days. Fans at back of the kop used to be delirious. And the noise was something else. I genuinely feared it would collapse some days with the movement of the stairs up and down when the fans were bouncing. Also the pressure on the barriers when we scored!
@mrj8856 Oh definitely. There was times when I looked right across that KOP and did wonder I'd the entire thing was gonna collapse underneath us. Great great days
Really love your match reviews because you give the credit where it's due, often where others just don't see it, but that you don't go overboard after a few wins or league position. As for our home form I think it's because we don't come out of the traps fast enough, which is why we often concede first. When we're away from home teams will want more to push home their advantage to secure the win whereas when we're at home and the opposition go ahead they will just sit on the lead and it means we have to break teams down and there's less chance to hit teams on the break and even if they concede they're happy with a point. Regarding the atmosphere, I think you got the nail on the head with your initial comment about Big Ron and Carlton Palmer. If we take a few more shots when in and around the box, even if they're a bit appreciative, and are less methodical in our play, whilst it might not be as effective (although we're not scoring many goals really doors so that's debatable) it will get the crowd going. I think that's the bottom line nothing else. I'm sure there are still plenty of pissed up blokes there and they aren't making much noise either so I don't think it's that. If the product on the pitch is good the atmosphere will be good, if not then you won't.
@mattpotter8725 Its mental reinforcement int it. Get a few early shots off and a bit of that tension (and it always feels tense just after kick off) is released.
@sheffcam4960 Yeh. I know modern coaching I heard recently says taking speculative shots from outside the box isn't statistically effective, but if by not doing it the crowd goes quiet then I think this has an even more negative impact on the effectiveness of scoring goals. We both know how great an atmosphere there is at Hillsborough it is when playing well, creating chances, pushing forward. I think by not going for it more at the start of games and not energising the crowd we cause problems for ourselves and it's only when we go behind we get the kick to push otherwise it's just going through the motions.
Was watching highlights in the pub today and it looked an even match except when in second half Oxford decided to dish out gifts like Santa Claus. Outrageous ricochet that lands at Lowe's feet for a toepoke and then losing possession on the half way line pushing for equaliser. Good finish by Gassama but I'd expect more Scrooge-like defences in your next matches. Take what you can. Owls on fringes of playoffs as my team Millwall were last month and now we are winless and managerless! Agree with you it is a poor second division.
@@sheffcam4960 Yes the thickos comment. Not sure who it was aimed at. Maybe the new director of football Steve Gallen, buying players over Harris. A few fans? Cryptic. Sad end for our record goalscorer.
I was sat in corner of stand in away end and I thought definitely one, maybe two Oxford players were offside with one of those bagging the goal and the one definitely offside just behind him so interfering with play.
The "fat fella that fell off the boat" - Robert Maxwell, who took £460 million from his employees' pension funds to prop up his Mirror Group to save them from Bankruptcy! Some say his disappearance was a hoax. As for The mighty Owls, back on track. Super performance. We can't get too carried away of course as Oxford are struggling, nevertheless it was a good win and some attacking confidence for the players. Lets hope that Rhol is backed in January as this Championship isn't the best and there is always a team that comes from the pack. Maybe it could be us
Was able to watch this one on ifollow and it’s great to hear you analyse what you can still picture - thanks, as ever, for your time and knowledge. Yep, many good performances; I just love watching BB when he has created space for himself- short ones, long ones, slid ones hugging the touch line, dinky ones OTT, always moving, ticking over. What a player! Home crowd? If we can get to 5th/ 6th/7th where each point really matters, I think it’ll pick up. Moving from 9th to 12th, 10th to 13th somehow doesn’t seem to matter so much to so many folk. Anyway, good game, great review and on to Stoke - never a glamorous game! Cheers! 🤍💙😊
Another great review Jim, I was at Donny races for a birthday do so I’ve only seen brief highlights up to now. I agree with you about the atmosphere being affected by the seats but I think other factors include how many away fans are in hillsborough and how we’re performing Plus how many home fans can afford to attend 😢 Keep up the good work and take it easy on the old mince pies 😂
@ first time ever that I came out in front….. well I should say WE, our lass had more wins than me. We finished £46 in front. That doesn’t include the chuffing bar bill though 🙈 I haven’t started making mince pies yet…… I do all our cooking….. that was mi job when I was ont ships 🚢
@stuartvaughan Ships cook eh. Visions of Long John Silver!! One phrase from that film always stuck in me head. When he's talking about his home made plumb duff. Always made me want to try some I've still never had any!
20:18 I think you meant Gassama not Musaba but can understand as you'd just spoken about Musaba. Musaba, Gassama, Mustafa, Chicken Tikka Masala all doing bits for us same with Josh and his dad Dean. If we sign another Lowe in January we'll start to sound like Flo Rida! Lowe, Lowe & Lowe
Aye. It's ever been thus, if we can just tighten up a bit. Don't like to say it but look at our neighbours. Not blowing teams away, but their defence is tighter than a ducks arris and that gets you a long way
Glad Dannys trying Jamal Lowe and Smudger up top ... Ive been thinking its well worth giving them a fair few games - Windass and Gassama behind !! I like t'other Lowe as centre half too hes looking well solid - hopefully we can get an early goal against Stoke and get folks going in the stands - agree completely with you about the atmosphere chap - there used to be maybe 20 -25 of us who would only ever really meet up at the match..."i'll see you int' usual place !!" would always be the arrangement and imagine that x 2-300 and youve got a few thousands folks - we weren't season ticket holders and this was in the Big Ron / Tricky Trev days too! I cant imagine safe standing ever being allowed at S6 somehow!! Oh, and nowt wrong with daft headgear! 🤠
Definitely! "Usual spot". Seems a different world when you'd look across the KOP wondering if it's structure could cope with the bouncing as the foundations shook. Great days
Game after game Wednesday concede an early sloppy goal . We always look lazy , slow and disinterested in the first 20 or so mins. Plus Valery was simply terrible . We could have easel lost the first half 4-1( which would have been game over ). Better 2’nd half ( it couldn’t get much worse ). Bannan, Bernard, Beadle & Charles all superb👌 Also great goal by Gassama after excellent touch by Smudge.
Aye he's not been having the best of times olf Valery. . Mind you, on the other hand much as I like Valentin he looks more like a winger to me. Dunno what you do there. Palmer can't seem to get a sniff except as 4th choice midfielder.
Good overall performance, still create our own problems. Smith brilliant, then bernard. Your review echoed my thoughts. On other matters stop wearing your lasses tights on your head, but in your own home & all that. 😂😂 What about the southampton stories ? Bloody hell.
Big fat Maxwell...I seem to remember Derby had Maxwell printed across their shirts...I always thought he was involved with them...anyway good win for Wednesday sort the home form out and you have a chance at the play offs...the time is now...because from what I've seen apart from the top 3 the championship is bang average...there's a killing to be made
There's a very good reason why the crowd at hillsborough is quite....., style of play side back side back side side then lose ball !, so frustrating. We're actually a team that quietens our own crowd !!!
I do wonder how much of it is just the modern game. Not just Hillsborough but every ground. Possession has become an obsession. The phrase "laying traps" seems to have become part of the language.
I am so pleased that you have said Michael Smith his playing his best for the club since he arrived. I agree 100%. So few Chempionship sides, now, expect a big no.9. @robturton181 Aye, some players really react positively to the competition and Smithy certainly looks to be in that camp. Hope he can keep it up
Smith absolutely superb yesterday. Looks like we have finally found the key upfront, Lowe supporting Smudge
Worked pretty well together didn't they. Hopefully they can put a run of games together without too much chopping and changing
I ❤ smithy and his determination
He's looking terrific this year. Best I've seen from him
You’re right about the atmosphere at home, I’ve wondered why it’s so sterile lately, I personally think that we are so desperate to stay in the championship, everyone can’t relax. Another brilliant review pal. Keep it coming.
Yes agree and early kick offs and ticket prices dont help
Lately?

Aye, there's always a bit of tension! You can sense it sometimes like a fog over the stands
@MickCann-j8o I agree with that . Can't relax and enjoy it . And way too over priced
It's just like chatting to you when dropping off the 20 boxes for dentistry! Happy days.

Hope all well with you, have a great Christmas!

Owls match reviews with Steve Van Zandt!😄
Been looking forward to this.
I'll take that! Been called worse!
Enjoyable game and vid. Thank you.
I’d have given MoM to Smithy but you know it’s a good performance when there’s lots of candidates, and yesterday Baz, Smith, Charles and Dish all worthy candidates.
Really good display. Hopefully take some confidence from put attacking intent into Stoke and get off to a good Chrimble run!
I've had "3 points away olé olé" going around in my head since I woke up this morning. There are worse songs to get stuck in your head.

What's crack with Harris then? Bit of a left field press release that
@@sheffcam4960 Yes the thickos comment. Not sure who it was aimed at. Maybe the new director of football Steve Gallen, buying players over Harris. A few fans? Cryptic. Sad end for our record goalscorer.
Robert Maxwell Jim. He wanted to combine Oxford and Reading and call them Thames Valley Royals as I remember.
I didn't know that. Remember him being involved with Derby too at one stage, but not reading. Absolute spiv!
You're not old enough to remember that!
At least You've cheered us up good analysis. I know what you mean about mince pies.
I was sat in corner of stand in away end and I thought definitely one, maybe two Oxford players were offside with one of those bagging the goal and the one definitely offside just behind him so interfering with play.
I thought he was off. I'll have to see it again. Mebbe Valery playing him on at back stick?
MOM Beadle AGAIN. Saved us once again in first half to help us to go on and win.
Closely followed by Smith...AGAIN. Top two performers for some time.
Beadle is pulling off some unbelievable point blank saves.
Though that does lead to the question
..why is he faces some many point blank shots!!
Enjoyed that. I always do.
Glad you enjoyed it👍
Great comment s again. Loved the hat by the way.
I might keep it. After all, we won well.
Not that I'm superstitious or anything 🤣
Quality review 10/10

Great video as always, a deserved win. Will Danny be tempted to Southampton now Russell Martin has been sacked? Be disappoibted if he does go
Hopefully if anything it persuades Channers to pull the stops out to get Danny's January loan targets in

It's been a bit nippy! Still, I'll take the cold over the alternative...feels like it's been pisswetthru the last month!!

I think their scorer was onside. Just. The other lad to the left of him was definitely offside and interfered with play
To be honest. They've faffed about with the offside that much in the last 20 years I'm not even sure I know it anymore!🤣🤣
