    I think what the show runners wanted to convey with the Mountain is that he is a walking killer Frankenstein only to obey orders, but seeing his younger brother, and suddenly not following orders was to show how much hatred the Mountain feels for him. Basically the opposite of how in shows/movies, they always show “love” conquering all? Like someone can be under a spell, or in any situation, some how love surpasses and beats the odds. This was like, the Mountain’s hatred towards his younger brother was stronger than any other feeling the Mountain has ever had.

    Tyrion adopts the perspective of the audience. The audience was very much also in denial of how much evil Dany was capable of. They knew her to be ruthless and impulsive, but naively believed such a person would nevertheless be sated with the people of KL surrendering. As far as Dany was concerned, it was a case of 'too little, too late.'

    • @jjh2456
      @jjh2456 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was the thing. Dany’s story was told from Tyrion’s POV and not Dany’s going back to season 7. That’s why people have a hard time understanding why Dany did what she did. He believed in her. The audience believed in her. That’s why we think the heal turn was rushed, but if you are Tyrion then yes you are horrified and saying “WTF IS THIS ISH!!!”

    They ruined everyone’s character arcs in 6 episodes. Such a shame. I agree with Dany going mad because it was foreshadowed through the series but they did it in 0-100. They needed more episodes or another season to fully develop this ending.

      The original ask was for 10 seasons with 10 episodes, and a feature film extended length trilogy like Lord of the Rings. HBO immediately shot that down and said, "we do not make box office movies". They agreed to 8 seasons. I think there were some production issues in the later seasons, which HBO was not happy about. They decided to cut the 10 episodes in season 8 down to 6 and said they just wanted to "move on from the show", because they wanted to focus on things like the Chernobyl miniseries.
      The pacing is so off because of some suits at HBO who did not understand the value of what they were holding. If they did 10 seasons and 3 extended length movies, GoT would have gone down in history as the greatest franchise ever created.

      @@B_B-420 I don't know where you got that information from but according to Entertainment, it was mostly D&D who wanted to wrap things up.
      “This is the hard part of what we do,” sighs HBO programming president Michael Lombardo. “We started this journey with David and Dan. It’s their vision. Would I love the show to go 10 years as both a fan and a network executive? Absolutely.”
      "I don’t know. Ask David and Dan when they come through. We could have gone to 11, 12, 13 seasons, but I guess they wanted a life. If you’ve read my novels, you know there was enough material for more seasons. They made certain cuts, but that’s fine. - George R. R. Martin.
      "HBO would have been happy for the show to keep going, to have more episodes in the final season. We always believed it was about 73 hours, and it will be roughly that. As much as they wanted more, they understood that this is where the story ends" - Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff & D. B. Weiss
      "HBO isn’t keen on a Thrones film even if it’s a potential box office blockbuster, however, because the format switch could be construed as snubbing their loyal subscribers. “Certainly there have been conversations where it’s been said, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to do that?’” Lombardo said. “But when you start a series with our subscribers, the promise is that for your HBO fee that we’re going to take you to the end of this. I feel that on some level [a movie would be] changing the rules: Now you have to pay $16 to see how your show ends.”

Was that foreshadowing that Stannis will go insane in the future? So why does that foreshadow Dany’s future but didn’t foreshadow Stannis’s future? It’s almost like foreshadowing isn’t an indication of a character’s development.
      She’s been killing her enemies since day one like all the other Lords in Westeros. But does she enjoy it? No. Does she smile while it happens? No. Does she like to experiment with burning people? No. So where is the foreshadowing that she’s crazy? Yeah, the ONLY issue I had with this season was that Arya didn't kill Cersei. I had really, really wanted that. I can remember after the end of S6 when Arya, as the servant girl giving Jamie the eye, thinking that it would be so awesome if she killed Jamie & took his face to get next to Cersei and kill her.
    For one, that would've matched the book prophecy that Cersei had gotten but was never said in the show. In the book the witch told her that "the little brother" would kill her. It's meant to imply that Tyrion would be the one, but both her brothers were younger. It would also help explain why she wanted him dead so badly...even after learning he didn't kill Joffrey....because the prophecy was coming true. Secondly, I would've loved to seen her face thinking that Jamie had literally gutted her. How shocking that would've been for the audience & the amazement of seeing it was Arya when she took off the mask.
    But I do understand having Sandor teaching her that lesson. It was a nice touch since he had sort of become a surrogate father for her. Still, if she had just waited like 2 more minutes Cersei would've been right there for her to kill.

  • @HuntingViolets
    @HuntingViolets ปีที่แล้ว

    Cersei deserved a much different death. I just scoff at her tears after Missandei. Even at the end, she's like "I don't want to die. Save ME." (Lena Headey is great. She was hoping Arya would kill Cersei.)
    I feel like Jaime can't do much besides giving Cersei the Lannister party line at this point whether he feels it or not. I can see reasons for all his actions that don't include wanting to be with Cersei forever, but that's another essay. I don't expect things to go down like this in the books, but that's another another essay. I don't think Jaime dying with Cersei was the right or the inevitable ending. I feel that Jaime's arc in the books is so much about separating himself from Cersei and learning that they are not one person in two bodies, she is not the female version of him, he does not have to die with her because they were born together, that this seems like a betrayal. I realize the showrunners have downplayed his growth and had him doing things he didn't do in the books (killing his cousin, telling Edmure all he cared about was Cersei, etc.). There are certainly things to criticize about BookJaime, I'm not saying there are not. And I understand that adaptations often (usually?) change things from the books, but I also reserve the right to critique those things when they make the story worse.
    Obviously, we don't know how things will end up in the books--I suspect that, if Daenerys burns King's Landing it might be an unfortunate circumstance of dragonfire meeting wildfire, as the wildfire has not so far been removed from underneath the city. I doubt Cersei will be the one on the throne when it happens, as there is certainly another option. Jaime may die, but I don't think it'll be like this.
