Guéret, capital of the Creuse where the stonecutters left to build Paris, still has beautiful granite houses which testify to their know-how. There is a splendid museum of archaeology, history and decorative arts, the Musée de la Senatororène, located in a fabulous park. Numerous paintings from the Crozant school, sculptures, Chinese and Egyptian objects as well as Limousin goldsmiths are among the objects on display. The Presidial details local flora and fauna and recounts life before the industrial revolution with illustrations of tin and granite mining traditions.
