We were so happy to see this incredible video. My husband's grandmother was born in Antonito in 1885. Her father worked for the D&RG. His name was Frank McGovern. We are not sure what his job was but he moved to Montrose and then on to Riverside, north of Buena Vista. We know that he was the station master there. We believe his wife cooked meals for passengers at the station. Thanks so much for posting a good video of the trains.
I road the train in the late 70s and the 80s and I lived in Alamosa Colo in the early 60s . The trains ran over La Viva pass in the winter months to plow the snow that was a great site to see . And when they returned covered in snow . Thank you for the video's.
Neat seeing all the wood stacked inside those tenders. How much water do they hold? Doesn't look like there's be room for much unless it's underneath the wood I guess?
