Congratulations on your new purchase, André. This radio really does look premium with its glossy piano black finish, and the speaker seems to sounds good with both depth and clarity. This auto-tracking feature your describe sounds quite like some kind of AGC that slowly kicks in and probably adapts to the fading. It could certainly help a lot if properly tuned. I can't wait for a comparison with the Qodosen 😁
Interesting. Sangean makes quite a number of DAB+, FM and AM radios but it only offers one dedicated SW multiband receiver - the ATS-909X2, which is definitely on my hit list! 📻😍 Sangean took over the dedicated SW radio market when Sony started to abandoned it but it (Sangean) too has vastly reduced their world band radio selection. Perhaps your PR-D4W is a blessing in disguise, bru. You no longer need to buy the C Crane EP Pro for MW DX'ing! 😀
It is a pity that even Sangean does not really make shortwave radios anymore, except for one or two, you are right. The ATS-909X2 gets very mixed reviews though, some people really love it, others say it is overpriced for what it can do. I don't know, don't have one and will not be getting one anytime soon, it is way too expensive. There is still one other Sangean shortwave radio available on Amazon and eBay, and it is listed on the Sangean website. But it does not appear to be very well-known at all. It is the ATS-405, more reasonably priced, at $75. It is here: www.sangean.com/en/product/ats-405-silver and if you click on the "buy now" tab on the Sangean website it takes you to Amazon, here: www.amazon.com/dp/B00X15M5MC
Andre congratulations on your new Sangean PB-4W radio. I watching your video before I pickup my new Raddy RF-919 radio at my mailing drop-box station. I almost bought that radio but opted to buy the CCrane radio 3 plus the canvas case holder, because I am taking mine outside and have a history of dropping my radios…😢…and the PB 4W doesn’t have one. I am really impressed on the MW coverage of the CCrane 3 and my little “Q” so I await your video on your new baby…😊! 73! Have a great day!
I think the CCrane 3 seems to be a great radio, congratulations on getting that one! Just way out of my price range. But let's see what my Sangean can do, I will be uploading more videos soon 😀
@@swlisteningAndre I know what you mean by price as it too me 6 months to save for the radio plus a little help with the Christmas money I was given. Your radio should be a great MW performance DX machine. I only wish that someone made a carrying strap or case for the PW-4 because taking it outside would give me anxiety that I would lose another radio because it slipped out of my hands. If your experience is positive I might save for this one at the start of my fall in October or November to satisfy my MW DX urge. I not found the perfect radio yet…but I can Dream can’t I….😂😂😂🙏! 73!
@@Kw1161 I really hope that my experience with the PR-D4 will be positive, but I think it will be. So many people have commented very positively about its MW capabilities, so it must be true 😀 Maybe while you save up for the Sangean, I will save up for the CCrane EP Pro, another radio that seems to be really great on MW.
@@LionRoars918 I did some MW DXing last night, comparing the Qodosen and the Sangean. Conditions were not great though, so I did not make a video. Will try again tonight. But last night was interesting anyway, they both picked up the same stations, I was using the internal ferrite antennas only. The Sangean was definitely quite a bit stronger than the Qodosen when using the internal ferrite antennas. When I added the AN-200 loop they were pretty much equal.
Wow congratulation So we will wait your performance test on AM and FM as soon as possible Im looking for this radio or his small brother sangean PR-D9W have a good time 😊
There’s a Sangean ATS-404 for sale here for 50e. Not ventured into Sangean before although they’ve been around for a long time. Certainly direct tuning is favourable and the frequency display to stay on.
Hey Matt, this PR-D4 is also my first Sangean. The build quality is really exceptional, so in that sense it certainly looks like quality. The tuning is quite weird, but I suppose I will get used to it. The main draw for me here is its MW reception. I have seen so many reviews and comments from MW DXers about the good reception on this one that I just had to try it. You can click on the display button while you are listening, then the display lights up for a few seconds again and you can see the frequency you are on. I saw recently that there is Sangean ATS-405 available on Amazon, new, for $75. I guess it is the updated version of the 404. I never knew about the ATS-405 so did a bit of reading and apparently the 405 is also very good on MW.
Heartiest Congratulations André. Fab unboxing and hoping it to give you a fine AM DXing experience. My best wishes. 73! 🙏
Thank you! It looks like it will be a nice radio, I am looking forward to testing it more.

Thanks Alain! I hope I will be able to do some comparisons with the Qodosen this weekend, hopefully MW conditions will be good.

It’s very close in reception to my 2E. The tuning delay is annoying. Very well built and good performance to price ratio.
Hey Tom, thanks for your comment. I would really like to try a CCrane radio some day. On my to-buy list! So far I am really enjoying the Sangean.
Can it's clock do 24hr time?
It might, but I haven't found a way to do it yet.
