For bonus materials from this lesson, visit: chaiandconvers... In this new series, we watch clips chosen by Yara Elmjouie from the movie "A Separation".
I find it so interesting that he addresses the lowly furniture mover with "Tashreef". Does he do it in the context of the wage negotiation to say "I am more lowly than this mover" or even "look at me: I give everyone their due and more", as an overture in the negotiation?
I don't think he refers to his father as "-esh" because of his father's condition. There are instances in the film where Termeh calls her father "to" instead of "shoma". I guess it's just because he's close to his father. Many Iranians refer to their father as "to" instead of "shoma"
Truly one of the greatest movies ever made. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
14:58 Ohhhhh, thank you for pointing out that other thing! I think that's one thing I've struggling with when listening to Persian.
So excited about this as I watched it for the first time right before you announced this new series in your email!! Merciii

Is there a difference between 'talagh' and 'jodayi' ?
I will ask my mother
So Talagh is divorce which happens only if you are already married.
Jodayi is just a son separating from there parents, or siblings, or ...
Jodayi here means separation [of a couple], but it also does have a generic meaning, as in separation of church and state.
Talagh just means divorce.
Talaq is divorce.
Jodayi in this context is the state of being estranged.
