What do you do with the power cord to the wall? Can you shut the door on the cable or do you have to leave the window down a bit to accomodate the cable and incidentally any bugs that might want to crawl in there as well?
Where I live in the forest, if I leave a window even cracked, I run the risk of having insects and rodentia visitation. Hi! Yea that is normal for the light to be on the second position. Give it till overnight and you should see it go into trickle mode once it charges the battery to the optimal level. As far as leaving it plugged in for a long time, the manual states “not to leave it unattended” which I think is more of them leaning towards the safe side and a smart legal statement but many owners from what I read leave it plugged in all winter or for months on end while in storage.

Hello, I looked it up and I think this info might be helpful: 981, 991, & 718 - For 2013-2021 Boxster or Cayman, & 2013-2019 911 Carrera models: Long term storage can put these cars in "Sleep Mode", which will disable the center console plug socket and shut off the battery maintainer. To bypass this, lock the door after setting up the battery maintainer.
