    Great job on predicting higher share buybacks. He has said that while the YoY change in book value is a good measure of changes in intrinsic value, the growth in the underlying businesses are not all captured in book value and it is less of an indicator as to intrinsic value compared to where it use to be.

    I was surprised with the price of Berkshire that the shareholders are not getting a dividend.
    We know who his successor is already a very capable man the name slips my mind Greg Abel maybe

    Buffett's reluctance at paying a dividend is an exercise in psychology. Throughout his career, he has been critical about businesses who do not return cash to shareholders. If a company cannot generate a return that is equal to or greater than the overall market, it should give the shareholders the opportunity to earn better returns somewhere else by distributing dividends to its owners. Buffett obviously dislikes the idea that investors will be putting their capital in other investments than Berkshire.

    I own BRK B I figure hey is rather be in Berkshire Hathaway then single stocks. I also like that he’s high in short term bonds too so he’s hedges heavy.

    I like BRK B. There is no stress using the cash load. Let Apple Amazon grow, turn WFC around and let the businesses rake in 20 billions free cash flow. When time comes, share buybacks are going to happen, I think at 180$ we are close to 1x book value.

    Interesting comment that shareholders were prepared for Steve Jobs passing because they had 9-12 months notice. Warren Buffett is 89years old is he not? I think we can safely say we know he may not be in charge for a lot longer.

    • @M.-.D
      @M.-.D 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      m p13r1 this was being said with Warren in his 70s. Each year since the late 1990s meetings the question is raised but with increasing urgency in their voice. Charlie maintaining his presence next to Warren continues to make him a junior, along with Buffett being sharp in response each year it is difficult to make a case for why he will retire/pass before the following Annual Meeting.

    • @M.-.D

      warrenrose68 an interesting and counterintuitive observation in the scientific literature is that your life expectancy at 90 is higher than when you are 80. A few additional things such as cognitive function and mobility indicates further improvement of his odds of living longer.
      Regarding the coke, he is very accounting for the food/beverage choices he makes. In the past he has spoke about his exercise regime monitored by doctors to counteract his dietary choices, this would have a significant improvement on his frailty score. Frailty being a significant predictor of mortality risk.
      In principle I agree that as he ages shareholders should increasingly anticipate his passing however the comparison was to Steve Jobs. He had a very well understood disease curve that made his expected years of life lower than Warrens at any given point, including Warren’s prostate cancer announcement.

    • @M.-.D
      @M.-.D 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      warrenrose68 that is the statistical chance of death in a given year, not absolute life expectancy.
      As I mentioned, he also has indicators for the better position on a probability curve due to his well functioning mind and his mobility.
      Steve Jobs was announced to have pancreatic cancer, at the time it was not well known about it being the Neuroendocrine type. The common type of pancreatic cancer, has a 1 year mortality rate of around 80%.
      Again, I agree in general with what was said but on face value Buffett stands better survival odds than Jobs did.
      Old vs Pancreatic cancer

    I can't believe Greg is a CFA. He doesn't really understand Berkshire. Example, Greg is negative about BRK's underperformance over a 1 year period, not paying a dividend, breaking up the company, holding too much cash, not doing enough buy-backs etc.
