    Resistance, capacitance and inductance are the three components of impedance. And impedance is an AC property. Digital signal transmission is not an AC function, it's a DC function. And parity checks are there to ensure that if any data is corrupted, it gets caught and corrected before it's converted to AC so it can be broadcast to the speaker(s).
    All those very basic fundamentals understood, one can easily see why cables have no ability to have an effect on digital signal transmission. Assuming the conductors are large enough to carry the current, which is seriously tiny.
    But hey, psychoacoustics is definitely real....

    There is super easy way to know IF the USB cable actually does anything to the sound. Take super uber highress audio file. Send it to external drive or memory card with different cables. Now take the files back with the same cables to the computer. Open sound editing software and compare the files. IF they are 100% same then what does it mean? You guessed it. If the files are not the same you got cable that actually remaster the sound by it self to better. Now that is some harry potter magic and you have now made history by proving unicorn and witches to be real :D

    • @therumbler
      @therumbler 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Unfortunately this isn’t enough to test the cable. From what I understand copying a file using usb is a different process to isochronous real-time USB audio. A file copy does checks to ensure the file was copying perfectly. These checks are impossible with real-time USB audio

    If you need a longish length USB cable (up to 15m), I'd say go for the basic Supra cable. For a 4m run I paid £60 in Apr '23. The length I required was the main reason I bought it -- can't say I've heard much difference in USB cables, just wanted to be sure distance wasn't going to be a problem. I leave it to my DDC, DAC and external clock to ensure things sound optimal.

    I feel left out of the cable argument clique as I've just been listening to a CD of Enrico Caruso's first recordings starting with the AICC And Pathe Discs and Cylinders, Recorded between 1900 and 1901. Wet string would probably reproduce these recordings as good as the most expensive cables 😁 I guess my point being that it's no good dropping a second mortgage on equipment if what you listen to comes from sources that sound just as good on budget equipment. I do listen to modern recordings but then I hit old age hearing issues, I tried my friends £1600 Hifiman HE1000SE and couldn't really tell any difference between them and my Edition XS ones with historic recordings. I've listened to some modern demo music designed to show off headphones, and I'd rather listen to most of it through wet string 😬 Have a great Christmas and I hope Santa brings you all the Vegimite flavoured ice cream you can eat. 😂

      As I understand it, the noise can originate from the source device (e.g. computer) and/or can be picked up from the environment. From there it can enter the downstream DAC and mess with the timing accuracy and/or the output stage of the DAC.
      It will depend partly on the design of the DAC exactly where and how noise might travel. There also might be more to it still that I don't understand. I've got a video coming up next describing why it matters so much though.
