I hate when drivers do this, see a bus, scoot over, cut you off, then get over to the far right to turn in

There were several car length between your two cars, when the other car indicated to switch lanes.
All you had to do was to get the foot of the gas and (maybe) apply the brakes a little bit.
News flash: The road is not just build for you and the other guy also does not want to make a full stop because of a bus. Be a nice mate and just let people merge if you see something like this. Everybody is better off this way.
