Hey! Great question. I actually made a video all about how to check the balance and what to look for. th-cam.com/video/EM4QbBMTCbc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=U6Rt_O-qwTo2Sa0s
I have a question for you young lady: I have a horse which came to me very poor. Her heels are off, the walls are overgrowing because of this, and her bars are growing out and forward. Can cannot afford weekly farrier visits. Therefore, I would like top known what I can do to correct this issue/. How can I encourage the bars to grow straighter? how can I correct the heels when she has the arabian high/low?
Hi there, I just responded to one of your other comments. I am sorry I didn’t see them until now. Are the bars running forward down the frog or sideways into the sole?
You can definitely learn to upkeep your horse’s hooves every week. You can find me on Instagram @hoovesbyviolet and send me pictures via private message and I would be able to help better that way.
@@hoovesbyviolet they appear flares from the frog but still running the same direction. The farrier said they are growing "out and forward" I need her heel to hit first but this is her low heel
@@meganpahl3612 so she is not doing a heel first landing? if she is not doing a heel first landing, her soles may be thin in which case some horses with thin soles will grow a lot of bar to help support them. You are going to want to “stand” the bars back up. The bars should go halfway down the frog and not go out into the sole.
I have this exact same issue in the summertime! No matter how sharp my life is the hooves are just too hard. I actually use my nippers to trim the bars when they are too hard for my hoof knife. I will be making a video soon on tips for using nippers and I will show this in that video for you! Another work around is actually using bonsai nippers (yes for the little trees). They are the perfect size for trimming bars and frog in the summer. I will also make a video on this coming up! Let me know if there are any other specific videos you would like to see and thank for for watching!
@amandahorangobookyourself here is the video on bonsai nippers I just uploaded this morning! th-cam.com/video/_cFjZXdmX0Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=idrEx9BMx2Y4rv7k

I do the same job every day
It’s hard work but very rewarding! How long have you been trimming?
My mare's bars are hard as cement. I had my knife sharpened, and it's still hard to bring them down!
