    Thank you for posting this. First time I've ever been able to see a high quality video of this rifle firing.

      Bought mine in 2002 ish. It has a 6 power scope. Shot like crap. So i took it apart and found the wood between the recoil lug and the magwell broken out. Made a new lug out of tool steel and cut a new recess. Screwed it in to the stock and pillar beded the action from there. Shoots minute of beer can at 300 with silver bear. If you shoot service ammo, clean the laquer from the chamber frequently. It will shoot acceptably accurately for varmints as far as you can.

    I found your channel from your original SSG-82 video after trashing on 5.45 “hipsters” elsewhere on the internet, and then remembering the SSG-82 and wanting to watch FW’s video again. Watched FW Ian’s video again, and then found your channel. Your videos are well put together, I’m happy to join as a subscriber.

      Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
      I’ll admit I’m not much of a 5.45 fanboy. A friend has a -74 and I haven’t been very impressed. There’s just something about the SSG-82 that fascinates me.
      Thanks again!

    Gun Jesus, a.k.a. Ian from Forgotten Weapons has a video on the SSG 82 and he said in that video that Dynamit Nobel was loading high quality brass cased ammo for the STASI to use in these rifles. Nice to see a video of shooting the thing =)

      I’ve heard that also. I’ve no doubt it’s true. In the early 90s, when these were imported, a pile of East German Dynamit Nobel 5.45x39 ammo was imported but I seem to recall it was all steel cased. I don’t think we ever got any of the good stuff. I wonder what happened to the brass cased stuff?

      Look up DDR Streng Geheim , Diensteinheit IX , i think they were one of units meant to use them , but they via many turns got HK rifles also to use .

    In addition to the mild recoil, the report seems very quiet. If I only experienced the noise from the video, I would swear you were shooting rim-fire. It was interesting that the action handled the first round out of the magazine with the second loading. I wonder what was the problem the first time.

    • @SuburbanRifleman
      @SuburbanRifleman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the problem on the first magazine wasn't a magazine problem; I think it was a "me" problem. I suspect, in my excitement over shooting the rifle for the first time, I didn't get the top cartridge properly seated in the mag. It didn't feed correctly and then when I tried to double-clutch the bolt, it picked up the second cartridge and tried to shove both of them into the chamber.
      The muzzle report isn't much but it was quite a bit louder than it came through in the video. I filmed this entire piece with my iPhone, rather than setting up my video camera and an external microphone. I think the iPhone has some kind of noise protection that would kick in when I shot.
      I think the AR15 on the other range sounded much louder because (ironically) it was much further from the camera and didn't kick in the "deafness protection". I also later found out it is a .300 Blackout with a 5.5" barrel. So that would account for some noise. The owner is waiting on paperwork for a suppressor.

      I wasn’t familiar with DayZ but I am now. It’s always been interesting to me how game developers love to incorporate really obscure firearms into their creations.
      Maybe I’ll have to give it a try.

    • @grimknight1452
      @grimknight1452 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuburbanRifleman yes the DayZ developers are known for not only incorporating western weapons such as the famas but also a lot of obscure east European firearms such as the vss vintorez, pp-19 bizon and the ak-101 chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. Especially since the game takes place in the Czech Republic or as it’s know in game “Chenarus”.

      I got a pretty good deal. The auction in which it was listed was not very well advertised. I got it for significantly less than $1k.
      In recent auctions that were well advertised, I’ve seen the SSG-82 sell for around $3k.

      Wow that's nurs. However most people just don't know about these or how rare they are. Some may know and just think, so what? An east German bolt rifle?
      I could see one of these probably sitting in the used racks of my local shop for months without anyone even showing so much of a hint of interest in it. At first glance it looks like a cheap nitro air rifle.
